To protect the one you love, you might even be allowed to become a demon
  • The Orphans and the CHILDs are monstrous creatures, some bordering on Eldritch Abomination territory.
  • Mikoto is a nigh-unstoppable killing machine when she faces anything she thinks is an enemy. In episode 2, she tackles Mai with a form that suggests heavily that she was preparing to gouge Mai's eyes out.
  • Kagutzuchi's raw power. When he first charges up his primary attack, Mai seems to sense how much damage it can do and can only yell for Mikoto and Natsuki to run for their lives. He leaves a long swath of Scorched Earth.
  • A CHILD is bound to a Hime based on similar personalities. Hot-blooded Mai got a Phoenix like creature. Ice Princess Natsuki got a combat wolf. What did Shizuru get? A mishmesh with Squidlike body and serpents for tentacles.
  • One all too harsh, for all that it requires no part of fantastical or supernatural elements. Natsuki wakes from a Catapult Nightmare of her closest and most trusted friend kissing her while she's powerless, only to learn it actually happened, and overhears that it went further than that, with her friend not denying the accusations being thrown at her, and instead merely deflecting by saying her accuser is voyeuristic. Natsuki later collapses in the street from overwhelming grief, and wakes in a hospital from the same catapult nightmare.
  • You can see the exact moment Shizuru snaps, and it's not pretty. Her eyes as she tells Haruka that she's annoying are cold and dangerous.
  • Seeing Mai lose it when Mikoto indirectly causes takumi's death. Mai puts on a literal nightmare face and bites her lip hard enough to draw blood.
  • Nao's vengeful hatred of Mai and Natsuki. She's out for blood, and she wants everyone to know it. And she comes very close to exacting an "Eye For An Eye" on Natsuki.
  • Instrumental as her resurrection was to saving the day, there's something eerie and unnerving about seeing a bandaged Miyu emerging from her chamber, surrounded by flames.
  • A foreign power sending a military force to take over a school ranging from grade-schoolerz to teenagers would be a frightening experience for anyone. Throw in monsters, a Kill Sat, and all the rest, and you can imagine that students and parents alike would have concerns about Fuka Academy.
