Nightmare Fuel / Familiar Evil

Go To

Despite the light-hearted nature of Familiar of Zero, it's clear that the horror present with the Resident Evil games is here to stay, as Saito and Louise make their way through the nightmare that is the Raccoon City Outbreak.

    Chapters 5 and 6
  • Up till now, the content of the story has been pretty slice of life; Saito and Louise bonding as the former shows the latter around Earth, and tries to help with her magic, and Ship Tease begins to bloom between these two. Then, at the end of Chapter 6, a ragged, corpse-like dog emerges into their path as they make their way home along the Arklay Forrest...
    • It takes two of Louise's explosions to bring down the mutated mutt, and it nearly tears Saito's throat out before it is finally put down. Naturally, the two teenagers are horrified by the experience, especially when the mutilated dog zombie picks itself up after the first attack and tries to limp towards them with only half of its body relatively intact. And as the audience knows, this is only the beginning for Raccoon City.

    Chapter 7
  • While at school, Saito sees a fellow student take a drink from the water fountain, only for the poor boy to start hacking up blood and convulsing on the floor. Meanwhile, at the Hiraga Household, Louise and Satomi turn on the news to bear witness to an emergency broadcast, describing riots of seemingly crazed people. The T-virus outbreak has officially begun.
    • What's more, Saito was just about to take a drink from the fountain himself. Luckily for him, his slowly zombifying classmate clued him into what was going on before it was too late.
  • While Saito and his parents are arguing about whether they should stay or go, an Umbrella Security Services Team breaches the apartment and seeks to capture Louise while killing her hosts. And if it weren't for a zombified truck driver crashing into the side of the building and giving Saito and Louise a chance to escape, they would have succeeded.
    • What's more, they know about Louise's magic. This means that Umbrella has been monitoring Louise for a very, very long time.
    • The USS Team aren't just random mooks either; they are Delta Team; some of the Umbrella Corporation's best-unaugmented soldiers short of HUNK himself, and one of them was personally trained by him. Saito and Louise have a hell of a pack of hounds on their trail.

    Chapter 8

    Chapter 9

    Chapter 14
  • The state of the Raccoon City Zoo, once a place filled with happy memories, is now a deathtrap teeming with mutated animals and zombies.

    Chapter 18
  • The Rescue Party gets a first taste of the hellish nightmare that has befallen Raccoon City as they encounter their first zombie.

    Chapter 20
  • We now see what happens if a mage gets infected as Alphonse finally succumbs to the T-Virus infection, turning into a fish-man creature dubbed a "draugr" that is capable of manipulating water. The worst part is that he happened to turn at the worst possible place: the Water Treatment Plant and the river.
