Narm / William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet

Go To

  • The guns being named after swords and daggers (like in Juliet's case) is ridiculous enough. "Fetch me my longsword!" Cue a shotgun... Made even better by the fact that the full line is "Fetch me my longsword, ho!" He's talking to his wife.
  • In regards to Mercutio:
    • Him crossdressing in a silver, glittery tube top and miniskirt. Then pulling Romeo's invitation to the party from the bottom of said miniskirt. After seeing that, it's practically impossible to take his death scene seriously.
    • Even without the above, his death scene is still very narmy, thanks to being incredibly drawn out (making one wonder why they don't just take him to a hospital), a thunderstorm quite literally developing in seconds, and Mercutio constantly shouting "A plague on both your houses!" at the top of his lungs for the entire scene.
  • "You kiss by the book!" It's in the play, too, but the delivery of this line by Claire Danes is pure Narm.
  • Romeo losing it at Tybalt right before he kills him. Leonardo DiCaprio's overacting is almost painful, and it's nearly impossible to understand what the hell he's saying when he's screaming that loudly. The way he yells "EITHER THOU, OR I, OR BOTH MUST GO WITH HIM!" over and over, you could expect Tybalt to shout "STOP SAYING THAT!" And it all culminates in Romeo's hilariously overdone scream as he unloads his gun into Tybalt.
    • Even foreign dubs got affected: The Swedish version didn't subtitle that. Either the translators didn't find it important enough, or they simply couldn't hear what he was shouting...
  • Lady Capulet's reaction to Tybalt's death. "ROOOOMEO SLEW TYBALT! ROOOOMEO MUST NOT LIVE!"
  • The crowning moment comes as Juliet wakes from her faked death just as Romeo downs the poison, in time for him to realize he goofed (it does come across in the acting). The best Oh, Crap! look ever, and for a scene not meant to be funny, it can't be overstated just how perfect the comedic timing is here, making the ending slip from tragedy to black comedy.
    • Her seeing his dead body is also meant to be moving and tragic, but is rendered hilarious by Claire Danes' terrible crying.
