My God What Have I Done / SpongeBob SquarePants

Go To

SpongeBob SquarePants is a frequent offender of this trope, to the point where it now has its own page.

  • In "Naughty Nautical Neighbors", when Squidward's cruel joke to turn SpongeBob and Patrick against each other backfires right in his face, the look on his face is quite noticeable when hiding from the two due to them fighting over him, causing him to find a way to fix their relationship.
  • Patrick and SpongeBob are both dealt with this in "Boating School". After 38 failures in a row of trying to pass his boating exam and obtain his driver's license, SpongeBob retakes his test the next day with Patrick helping him. Mrs. Puff seems to be floored by SpongeBob's sudden improvement and jokingly asks if he had a radio in his head and Patrick was giving him all the answers, to which she considers it cheating. SpongeBob and Patrick thought It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time, but quickly realize this method is wrong, and as SpongeBob tells Mrs. Puff the truth, Patrick runs back to his rock crying. Ultimately, it ends with SpongeBob failing his boating test for the 39th time, and counting.
  • In "Hall Monitor", after SpongeBob's overly-long acceptance speech means he has no time to actually fulfill his hall monitor duties, Mrs. Puff allows him to keep the Yellow Sash of Power for the rest of the day. She begins to regret it the instant he leaves.
Mrs. Puff: [quietly horrified] What are the consequences of what I've just done?
  • SpongeBob in "Nature Pants" when he realizes the error of abandoning his normal ways.
SpongeBob: What have I done? I had a great life and friends, and I gave all of that up.
  • In "I Was A Teenage Gary", Squidward says this almost word-to-word whilst hiding from the SpongeBob transformed snail.
  • Squidward has one in "Fools in April" after making SpongeBob cry with a rather painful April Fool's prank.
  • In "Dying For Pie", Squidward has this reaction when he thinks SpongeBob is going to die from eating the exploding pie.
  • In "Christmas Who?," Squidward takes great joy in mocking SpongeBob for believing in Santa Claus after he never shows up. He instantly changes his tone after SpongeBob gives him a special handmade clarinet gift and instantly feels regret for being so grouchy.
  • In "Frankendoodle", SpongeBob and Patrick find a magic pencil that can make their drawings come to life, and SpongeBob draws a doodle of himself to prank Squidward. The doodle then proceeds to beat up Squidward, steal the magic pencil, and run away, causing SpongeBob to utter this line once he realizes what he created.
  • In “The Great Snail Race”, SpongeBob forces Gary through some grueling training for a race against Squidward’s snail, running his beloved pet ragged. Then, as the race commences, SpongeBob witnesses Gary finally break down on the track and the normally nice sponge has no one to blame for his pet’s exhaustion except himself.
  • In "No Free Rides", Mrs. Puff has no qualms about passing SpongeBob just so she doesn't have to put up with his maniacal driving anymore... until she realises she's just allowed him to unleash that maniacal driving on the entire town. She relaxes when she realises he doesn't actually have a boat, but when she learns that his parents have bought him one, she has this reaction all over again.
  • In "Band Geeks", after everybody that Squidward gathered for 4 nights of band practice, and on the final night, fought over differences and hurt Squidward's feelings:
SpongeBob: What kind of monsters are we?...
  • In the episode "Procrastination", SpongeBob cries this when his procrastination ends up getting his house set on fire.
SpongeBob's House: SpongeBob, why?! Why did you set me on fire, SpongeBob?! Why didn't you just write your essay?! STOP WASTING TIIIIIME!!
  • Mr. Krabs also goes through this in the episode "Born Again Krabs" after Squidward calls him out for trading SpongeBob for just sixty two cents.
  • In the episode "Have You Seen this Snail?" when SpongeBob realizes he made Gary run away from home after he neglected to feed him. Patrick lampshades this.
  • In "Funny Pants", Squidward tricks SpongeBob into thinking he lost his laugh box. SpongeBob is eventually left crying hysterically thinking he can't laugh anymore, causing Squidward to utter this line.
  • SpongeBob in "Driven to Tears" when Patrick is given 90 days in jail for littering, which wasn't his fault in the first place. SpongeBob himself was the litterbug, having ripped up Patrick's driver's license and tossed it out the window, as he was jealous of Patrick passing the boating exam and getting a brand-new boatmobile out of it. The judge relents and exonerates Patrick and gives SpongeBob the sentence.
  • In "Whatever Happened to SpongeBob?", all of SpongeBob's friends (except Squidward) and pet are left in saddened regret when they find out he left because they got mad and chewed him out for the accidents he caused, not to mention called him an "idiot boy".
Mr. Krabs: (after reading SpongeBob's farewell letter) "IDIOT BOY"?! It is SpongeBob! What am I gonna do without me fry cook?
Patrick: What am I gonna do without my best friend? I never should have been mean to you! (cries)
Sandy: I should have never kicked you out of my house! (cries, with her tears filling up her helmet)
Squidward: (near tears) If I knew that was the last time I've seen SpongeBob— (happily) I would have slammed the door in his face even harder! (laughs)
  • In "Giant Squidward", SpongeBob and Patrick actually feel guilty about turning their titular neighbor into a giant.
  • Gary has one in "Gary's New Toy" when his obsession with his new squeaky ball toy drives SpongeBob into packing up and leaving home.
