"And this was just the beginning of a long, perilous story... sit down, wrap up in a blanket, and grab some popcorn. We have a lot to catch up on if you wanna be a true member of Zone-B- the Faunaflora and Vani hunting organization."
Vanishing World is a dark fantasy song series created by Vocaloid producer Monstrosity, and is the 4th part of their series Kenopsia. The series features creatures known as "Vani" who regard existence as suffering and plan to wipe out all life as a mercy act before dying themselves. Earth happens to be their target in this instance, and it's up to humanity to work together and defend themselves from this apocalyptic threat. But that's not the only thing humanity has to deal with; a mysterious and widespread phenomenon- dubbed Monsterization- in which humans transform into monsters creatures has also been further plunging society into chaos.

There is one hope for humanity, however: Zone-B, an organization dedicated to combating the Vani threat, with assistance from the Omni, a bird-like alien species also fighting against the Vani. The series is centered around Madeline Karazell, better known by her codename Null, the main protagonist and Zone-B member tasked with fighting the Vani directly.

Due to the lore of this series constantly changing and being updated, information on this page may be outdated.

    Side Songs

Vanishing World provides examples of:

  • Ancient Evil: The Vani have been around for eons.
  • And I Must Scream:
    • The 17 Vani trapped within Vauluktreal are considered neither alive nor dead. They cannot physically do anything or act on their own, but their minds are still aware enough to at least feel immense amounts of pain.
    • People turned to stone by the Tundra Lens don't immediately die; the picture that features them has to be shredded before their fate is sealed. And based on what Mavra goes through in this comic, victims appear to be aware that they're stuck in place and unable to do anything about it.
  • Apocalypse How: The Vani's ultimate goal is to create a Class X-4 apocalypse by destroying all life in the universe. In terms of their invasion of Earth alone, it's a Class 6.
  • Body Horror: And how!
    • Monsterization leads to lots of this, as it tends to do lovely things like tear a person's skin and organs asunder and destroy their skeletal structure before rebuilding it anew. Special mention goes to Ganymede's transformation, which involves her monster form's head bursting out of her human form's. No wonder the pain drives newly-transformed humons into an Unstoppable Rage!
    • Faunaflora are the result of Xelzerin and Kaylee's Makeshift Machine, the Faunaflora Reactor, forcibly fusing plants, animals, and insects together. Near the end of Perennial Crisis, Kaylee attempts to make herself one by fusing herself with her own dad. Arthur manages to escape in time, but the process still Monsterizes Kaylee.
    • Vauluktreal, a living lake made up of several tortured Vani bodies and corpses, including 18 (Luktreal included) of the Earth Invasion Team.
  • Cast Full of Gay: All but one of the protagonists and a fair few of the tethers are LGBTQ+.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Ágata wastes no time turning against Zatakva, whom has been treating her like dirt, after learning she was never gonna get her parents back like promised.
  • Driven to Suicide: After snapping out of Morzogo's mind control, Mavra uses the Tundra Lens on himself in an attempt to stop Morzogo's attack. He gets better.
  • Elemental Powers: Most creatures can wield magic based off one of 39 semblaNote , or an aspect of the universe. Many sembla represent classic fantasy elements like fire, ice, plants, and electricty, but there are also more unconventional elements like Thread, Ink, Flesh, Plastic, and Wonder. Vani can only wield 1 sembla, while humans can wield up to 2.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even though the Vani's ultimate goal is genocide, sadism is taboo in their culture.
  • Foil:
    • The Omni are this to the Vani. The Omni believe that life is precious and want to protect it, while the Vani believe that life is suffering and wish to destroy. The Omni are also rather uniform in appearance, while the Vani's appearance varies wildly from Vani to Vani.
    • There's also the Holloan and Jaluan Omni. Holloan Omni have warm, day-like colors, geometric body tattoos, want to unite all life under a hivemind, conduct unethical science experiments, and wish to eradicate the Vani, while Jaluan Omni have cool, night-like colors, swirly and natural body tattoos, believe in individuality, conduct humane science experiments, and wish to rehabilitate the Vani.
  • Foreshadowing: The beginning of Sleeping with the Fishes contains a scene where a butterfly is engulfed by a red fish. It turns out to be a symbolic re-enactment of Ágata killing Zatakva.
  • Garden of Evil: The Garden, the domain of Kaylee and Xelzerin, is covered in a jungle-like ecosystem and overrun with Faunaflora, creatures that are a mix of plants and animals or insects created by Kaylee.
  • George Lucas Altered Version: Perennial Crisis is this to ABERRANT GARDEN. One for ULTERIOR SPECTACLE, called Shutter of the Gargoyles, is is planned as well, but is currently in Development Hell.
  • A God Am I: Alatori's ultimate goal is be worshiped as a God.
Alatori: I'm the GHOST MESSIAH; NOT A DAMN PARIAH.
  • Loophole Abuse: Vani cannot normally use links, the main method of transportation across the universe, due to not having a full soul, which links require in order to use. Tethers allow them to bypass this requirement, however, as they have the other half of the Vani's soul.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: Target's ability to shift between human and monster forms makes him sought after by various scientific organizations attempting to reverse Monsterization. Becomes deconstructed when the world starts treating him as less than human, causing a great deal of trauma and leading to him developing trust issues.
Target: I'm not special, I'm not even cool. All you want is my body, you absolute creeps!
  • Magical Camera: The Tundra Lens, the Makeshift Machine used by Morzogo and Mavra, takes the form of a camera that turns whoever is caught in one of its photos into stone, as well, as turn the landscape captured into a frozen wasteland. The only way to undo the effects of the Tundra Lens is to burn the photos.
  • Nightmarish Factory: Katrina and Deneko's Makeshift Machine takes the form of one.
  • Off with His Head!: Deneko and Katrina's attack primarily consists of doing this to others to replace their heads with automated mechanisms that would further attack others. This ends up happening to Katrina at the end of Cognition Factory.
  • Painful Transformation: Monsterization into a 'Humon' is noted to be and can look painful, even after being transformed.
    Target: GOD.
    Target: This hurts.
  • Partial Transformation:
    • Katrina only partially Monsterized thanks to Deneko's intervention.
    • Megan can freely control how much of her body transforms, an ability unique to her. What she looks like fully transformed is currently unknown.
  • People Puppets: Alatori can do this with his Mind and Soul webs. He mostly does this to his followers, but he also turns his tether into one.
  • Shapeshifting Heals Wounds: If Target's anything to go by, then Weres appear to be able to heal any wounds they sustain by switching forms. This doesn't apply to self-afflicted wounds, however.
  • Starfish Aliens: The series is filled with these, most of them Vani.
  • Villain Song: Almost all of the songs in the series are this, as they are typically sung from the perspective of the Vani or their tethers. The only exception so far is MacGuffin in the Limelight.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Certain humons- known as Weres- are capable of shifting between human and monster forms at will. Downplayed with Target, who has difficulty controlling his transformations at times.
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction: Makeshift Machines, which are stolen Omni tech modified by the Vani to destroy life on large scales.
