Tropes that apply to All That Remains:

  • Badass Creed / Badass Boast: The Air That I Breathe, Some of the People, All of the Time and others.
  • Determinator: Quite possibly the most common theme of their songs.
  • Genre Shift: A War You Cannot Win more or less completely eliminated most of the metal elements and changed their genre to modern rock and Post-Grunge.
  • Jerk Ass: Phil has gained a reputation over the years for being extremely rude and arrogant.
  • Lighter and Softer: While the lyrical themes haven't experienced this, the actual music has. For better or worse, most songs on the albums after The Fall of Ideals are a lot softer and poppier.
    • ...For We Are Many was a bit Darker and Edgier than Overcome, and went back somewhat to the style of The Fall of Ideals, but the very next album they released what may be their lightest album yet.
  • Melodic Death Metal: At first. The later became a metalcore band, but kept heavy Melodeath influences, being one of the main "Melodic Metalcore" bands. Lately though, they've dropped almost all of their Melodeath.
  • Metalcore
  • Metal Scream: Comes in three varieties: The standard Metalcore shouted scream, the deep gravely Death Growl, and the high pitched Black Metal screech. The song The Weak Willed features all of them.
  • Mohs Scale of Rock and Metal Hardness: Usually in the 8-9 range. Recent material usually runs between 6 and 8, with the occasional 9 here and there, though A War You Cannot Win was mostly a 6 thanks to the greatly increased alternative rock and post-grunge elements, though this album did also have it's share of 7s and 8s.
  • Not Christian Rock: Some songs (like Not Alone, Faithless, and Become The Catalyst) have seemingly Christian themes, but they aren't a Christian band, and Phil has gone on record that he is in fact an atheist
  • Post-Grunge: Started flirting with this and modern rock sometime around Overcome and decided to become a straight up fusion of metalcore and Post-Grunge with A War You Cannot Win.
  • Rated M for Manly: They tend to put forward an overtly masculine front with the exception of the occasional ballad.
  • Soprano and Gravel: Done by the same vocalist, no less.
  • True Companions: A common theme in their songs, which often deal with themes of brotherhood.
  • Video Full Of Film Clips: The music video for their song "This Calling" was featured as the lead song for Saw III's soundtrack, and incorporated (while still partially censored) the opening death scene from the film.
  • You Are Not Alone: Not Alone, obviously.
