The game
- The cylinder.Explanation Jokes about how the tall cylinder in the tutorial is frustrating to jump and dash over, starting from Dean Takahashi's infamous struggle to pass the tutorial.
- It's Just like Dark Souls.Explanation Similar to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy released in the same year, fans have derided reviewers, game journalists, and players that make comparisons with the Dark Souls series for their difficulty as being an extremely lazy analogy due to both games not even sharing the same genre, and have made several edits and drawings◊ combining the two. And then someone went and made THIS.
- Friendly reminder that King Dice has already fucked your wife.Explanation A tweet regarding King Dice's smug expression has given him a memetic standing of having sex with peoples' wives, even if they are not married (or happen to be straight women or gay men).
- Cuphead and his pal Mugman, and his pal Mugman, and his pal Mugman, and his pal Mugman...Explanation After it had been revealed that there was a (now-patched) bug that would allow you to have multiple Mugmen, fans had decided to take the Expository Theme Tune and repeat it.
- "I'm Mr. King Dice, I'm the gayest in the land..."Explanation A popular mondegreen of the first line in "Die House", King Dice's theme. The actual line is "I'm the gamest in the land".
- Goopy le Grande is dead.Explanation Since the final phase of Goopy's boss fight is him getting crushed by his tombstone, and he doesn't appear in the ending scene, this led to jokes that he was Killed Off for Real. According to Word of God however, Goopy is just Faking the Dead all along.
- "The person below triple gay"Explanation Comes from a Twitter post about how someone's Discord server was temporarily halted when someone posted an image of Cuphead pointing downwards with three hands, with the aforementioned phrase above him. Has seen several edits since then.
- "Good day for a swell battle!"
- "You did look foolish today, but clown tryouts are next week."Explanation The game over quote for Funfair Fever, sometimes used as a reaction image for when people do or say something stupid.
- The internet's going to have fun with herExplanation Because she's a monster, a mermaid, can take off her head and her design in general, it became very popular for people to joke about Rule 34 artists "having fun" with Cala Maria.
- Cuphead confirmed for Smash.Explanation After Cuphead was announced for the Nintendo Switch, many fans joked that Cuphead would be one of the unannounced DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Shortly after, co-creator Jared Moldenhauer stated that he'd love if Cuphead became a Smash character, adding even more fuel to the fire. Cuphead would ultimately be added in the form of a Mii Fighter costume, similar to Sans.
- Cuckhead and his pal FuckmanExplanation Has popped up a few times on Tumblr, but most notably in SiIvaGunner's parody of "A Quick Break"
- The image of Cagney Carnation angrily stretching his face out, paired with his previous innocent expression, is frequently used as a "non-preferable vs. preferable" meme template in a similar fashion to Drakeposting.
- A common trend on YouTube is to mash Cuphead's gameplay with soundtrack from the classic 90s-shooter, Metal Slug, both games being side-scrollers known for their intense difficulty. It's surprisingly fitting, somehow.
- "YOU IS A MOTHA FUCKA, YA KNO DAT?!"Explanation An audio clip from a video by MarcusShawVA of Cuphead angrily yelling the phrase, which took off exponentially when someone else edited it into The Cuphead Show!.
- "We have come for your Wondertart!"Explanation A Cuphead version of an existing SpongeBob SquarePants meme, but with Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice as bees asking Saltbaker for the Wondertart, with Saltbaker responding by angrily telling them to get out of his bakery.
- Cuphead fans getting kicked out of [insert location] for kissing [insert inanimate object]Explanation A common joke about how many Cuphead characters are subject to Perverse Sexual Lust despite being Anthropomorphic Objects. This originated on a Twitter post where said inanimate object is a salt shaker, referencing Chef Saltbaker.
- We have a few from the trailers:
- The scene where everyone is scared of the Devil's sudden apparition at the carnival has been edited to replace the Devil with unpopular opinions or controversial figures.
- The scene where Cuphead fights Mugman while avoiding the radio has been edited to replace Cuphead and Mugman with rival figures or companies, with the radio often being replaced by a third party that neither one wants to screw with for one reason or another.
- The Devil's self-congratulatory speech in which he takes all the credit for his minions' hard work has become a way to mock others for being similarly pompous or self-absorbed.
- After Netflix Geeked released a video in which Tru Valentino and Frank Todaro (attempt to) play the punishingly hard game in-character, one part became particularly infamous — while Frank as Mugman expresses a reluctant sympathy for Ollie the onion, Tru as Cuphead bawls "CRY ALL YA WANT, YA CRYBABY!" It quickly became used to illustrate the difference between the two, and the two types of people in general.
- Once the full show released it quickly became a goldmine for out-of-context compilations. Even Netflix gets to play around with it.
- (Facepalm) Heh...hehe, Haha! That's a good one! He dies!"Explanation Near the end of the Season 2 episode "The I Scream Man", the titular ice cream man casually spoils the ending of Mugman's book, prompting the latter to break down into maniacal laughter before tackling the man with a Slasher Smile. This scene has become a popular reaction video on Twitter when someone says or does something loathsome, often adding in the FNAF 2 jumpscare scream at the end. It is also a popular response for people who spoil plot points, much like the scene it is from.
- Mugman is in hell.Explanation After Mugman was kidnapped by the Devil, fans have milked this fact for all its Black Comedy worth. Particularly on the show's head writer Deeki Deke's twitter page, where them referencing the episode "The Devil's Pitchfork" has become a Running Gag.
- Cala Maria's musical number reveals that she is the product of a human father and a fish mother. Fans took the obvious joke and ran with it, saying that Cala's father must've been Troy McClure.
