This manga contains examples of:

  • Bland-Name Product: The search engine shown in the Live-Action drama is just SEARCH with the colours of the Google Search Engine logo. The layout even looks similar.
  • Chatty Hairdresser: Kenji seems to be one of these. He's very popular at his work and while he rarely shares too much personal information,he's quite personable.
  • Cooking Stories: The series focuses on Keiji and Shirou's daily lives, and the food they cook for each other.
  • Food Porn: Lots and lots of it. The manga even contains recipes.
  • Hotter and Sexier: The spin-off doujinshi, Kenji and Shiro-san (ケンジとシロさん) by Yoshinaga Fumi herself depicts to scenes alluded in the original manga, while filling some gaps about Shiro's past as well. Contrasting the manga, the doujin shows some of the action of Kakei and Kenji.
  • Improbable Food Budget: Subverted. Shirou spends a lot of time planning the food budget for the household and looking for sales.
  • Older Than They Look: Kayoko, Shirou's neighbor, is quite shocked on how good looking Shirou is despite his age.
  • Opposites Attract: This describes Keiji and Shirou's relationship together. While Keiji is outgoing and open about his sexuality, Shirou is more stoic and uncomfortable talking about it.
  • Real Time: The manga progresses in real time. It began in 2007 and is on-going as of 2018. Shiro and Kenji were respectively 43 and 41 years old when the series began, but are 52 and 50 years old as of chapter 101.
  • Shout-Out: There are a few present in the manga.
    • One chapter has Kakei namedropping his type of celebrities: Johnny Depp and Hiroshi Abe, wishing he could eat as much as he wants and still stay in shape like them.
    • Kohinata, a man that Kakei befriends, calls his boyfriend Gilbert.
    • Kenji's type is Ryo Saeba.
  • Slice of Life: The manga is about the everyday life of a couple who loves cooking.
  • Sorry, I'm Gay: Happens when Kenji gets hit on by a female customer.
  • Straight Gay: Both Kakei and Kenji don't display many stereotypically "gay" attributes.
  • Supreme Chef: Kakei is considered one.
  • Through His Stomach: Pretty much the concept of the series. The main characters show their affection through feeding each other and taking care of daily chores. Kenji is always impressed by Shirou's cooking.
  • Younger Than They Look: One of Shiro’s coworkers, Shino, looks like a woman in her thirties. Shiro and another coworker find out in volume two that she’s twenty years old. Apparently when she was in high school, people jokingly called her “Little Mama” due to her face making her look older.
