Heart no Kakurega (ハートの隠れ家, "Hideaway for the Heart") is a Yaoi manga by Isaku Natsume, which was serialized in Dear+ from 2012 to 2015.

The manga follows a salaryman named Izumi that is robbed blind and, with no money and nobody to help him after his girlfriend dumped him for going broke, has to move to a rundown complex to save money, soon meeting his 5 eccentric neighbors, one of which is the young landlord Haruto.

The manga is completed with 4 volumes and 29 chapters. Volumes 1 and 4 follow Haruto and Izumi, while Volumes 2 and 3 follow their neighbors, Jin and Momo, which have a complicated relationship with one another.

Tropes:

  • Alone Among the Couples: Ichimaru, by the end of the manga. Haruto and Izumi are in a steady relationship, Jin and Momo's relationship is going well and it's implied Hazuki is in love with Ayano, which leaves him the odd man out with no love interest for him.
  • Beta Couple: Jin and Momo to Haruto and Izumi. Despite being around each other for much longer, the former couple takes much more time to get together properly compared to the latter one.
  • Bookworm: Haruto is constantly reading. He reads basically anything he gets his hands on and that the other tenants give him, which gives him a full library in his place.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Jin assumes any man he meets is interested in stealing Momo from him, before even knowing whether they're interested in men, and they need to prove to him they aren't. Jin himself enjoys the times when Momo acts like this.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Haruto's mother was emotionally unstable, and would not take care of the house, throwing a fit whenever Haruto tried to help. By the time his uncle made him move with him, he was not speaking anymore due to the treatment he received. He also lost his only friend due to his bluntness when Ichimaru became his bully.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Haruto is introduced as a cold and aloof guy who slowly shows a cuter, more lively side as he and Izumi solidify their relationship.
  • Gold Digger: Ayano has the intention of marrying a rich man, and instantly turns down guys who aren't rich enough, aside from basically throwing herself on Haruto's rich uncle.
  • Kuudere: Haruto is introduced as one, but he moves away from it and becomes much more expressive when around the other tenants, though it seems he is more or less the same with people he doesn't know or dislike.
  • Sexy Shirt Switch: In one extra, Izumi lends Jin a shirt, but it's too tight on him, once he takes the clothes off, Haruto decides to try them out and ends up like this for Izumi.
  • Supreme Chef: Ayano is a part-time model that is a surprisingly good cook, capable of making feasts for everyone in the complex almost every night.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Haruto tries to have sex impromptu with Izumi when he gets curious about how sex between men works, but it immediately goes downhill because they have not made any preparations, so of course, it would hurt.
    • Because of the low quality of the complex, the floor eventually collapses in Haruto's room, since he made a library there and the books and bookcases would weigh the floor down. Even more, when an inspection occurs, the entire building needs to be demolished because the structure is compromised, therefore, no one can live there anymore.
    • In the final chapter, it's shown that the characters drifted apart over the time they were living more distant than one another, which is simply common since they no longer live all a few steps from each other.
