Everything Yun Qingci did was to help Li Ying, but Li Ying repaid him by locking him in the Cold Palace. Yun Qingci commits suicide, then comes back to life eight years in the past. He decides to avoid making the same mistakes by not falling in love with Li Ying this time. But for some reason Li Ying won't leave him alone...

The novel is complete with sixty chapters and eight extras. A full English translation is available here.

Contains examples of:

  • Berserk Button: In the original timeline, hearing Yun Qingci's name mentioned sends Li Ying into a murderous rage.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Li Ying throws the ear mufflers gifted to Yun Qingci by another man in the brazier, and tries to forbid the other man to sew another pair for the poor admirer.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: The court sneered at Yun Qingci wanting for his husband to be faithful to him and him alone, instead of letting him indulge with consorts and concubines.
  • Destructive Romance:
    • Yun Qingci and Li Ying in the original timeline. Qingci self-harmed to get Ying's attention, Ying condemned Qingci's entire family to death and imprisoned him in Gilded Qifeng Tower, Qingci killed himself rather than stay in prison, and Ying murdered slaves for daring to gossip about this.
    • Their relationship starts out just as screwed-up in the second timeline. When he's reborn Qingci has a gash on his forehead and wrist, because his past self hit his head when Ying threw him out of bed. Then he cut his own wrist in an attempt to gain Ying's sympathy.
  • Doorstopper: Sixty chapters, and by webnovel standards it's unusually short.
  • Heel–Face Reincarnation: Li Ying has also been reborn. He outlived Qingci by twenty years and was miserable without him, so he's determined to make Qingci love him again in the second timeline.
  • Momma's Boy: As Madam Yun was pissed off about her husband's potential unfaithfulness to her when she was pregnant, she raised Yun Qingci on her own for seven years. When it looked like she would reconcile with her husband, an accident caused her son to fall in a coma and she ruined her health tending to the boy, leading her to pass in her sleep. Yun Qingci firmly refused to forgive Prime Minister Yun for this.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: The Empress Dowager encouraged Qingci to self-harm to keep him easily manipulated.
  • Royally Screwed Up: Li Ying murders slaves for gossiping about Qingci, then forbids anyone from ever mentioning Qingci again.
  • Self-Harm: Qingci's past self cut his wrist to gain the emperor's sympathy.
  • She Is the King: A male version common in danmei. Yun Qingci, a man, is called Empress Yun because he's married to Emperor Li Ying.
  • Starts with a Suicide: The first chapter begins with Yun Qingci's suicide.
  • Unperson: Yun Qingci in the original timeline. After his suicide no one dares to mention him, because Li Yingmassacred palace slaves who gossiped about him.
