The Dragonesses of Luara: The Intruder is a fantasy story, written by Luiz Prata, a.k.a. the troper silverbolt1, set in a distant future, in which magic and science coexist in harmony. The kingdom of Luara has the protection of Salima and her wife Almerlae, two women endowed with a singular ability: they can transform into enormous dragonesses. It's available here, in English, and here, in Brazilian Portuguese.

Salima is in charge of escorting, along with other warriors of the kingdom, a mission of peace outside the limits of Luara, while Almerlae remains in Luara. Things get complicated when the entourage is faced not only with an old enemy of the kingdom, but also with an even greater evil ...

The Tropes of Luara: The Intruder:

  • Ambiguous Robots: The Intruder is described as a biomechanical abomination.
  • Amulet of Concentrated Awesome: Salima and Almelae have the gems that transform them into dragons. Other warriors of the kingdom have gems that grant them different powers.
  • The Assimilator: The Intruder. It assimilates organic life and vehicles, transforming them in biomechanical beings like it.
  • Babies Ever After: The story ends with Salima finding out she’s pregnant.
  • Badass Teacher: Almerlae is a history teacher who can kick ass when necessary.
  • Battle Couple: Salima and Almerlae.
  • Big Bad: Zimtar.
  • Cast Full of Gay: The story has three lesbian couples among the main characters.
  • Color Contrast: Green and purple, the colors associated to Almerlae and Salima, respectively.
  • Fake Defector: Djal pretends to defect to Zimtar’s side as she did for real in the past, only to catch the witch off-guard.
  • Homosexual Reproduction: Before the real dragons became extinct, one of their survival adaptations was making the females able to reproduce via parthenogenesis stimulated by a mating ritual with another female. This is what makes Salima get pregnant during a mating ritual with Almerlae while they were in their dragon forms.
  • Magitek: As in many fantasy stories, magic and technology coexist and interact in this one.
  • Mechanical Abomination: The Intruder.
  • Morph Weapon: Salima's glove can transform into a sword.
  • My Suit Is Also Super: Salima, Almerlae and Djal's suits are affected by the magic energy of their gems when they transform, being stored into the gems when they change from human to dragon form, and unfolding to cover them when they transform back into the human form.
  • Robot Me: The Intruder creates a mechanical version of Zimtar, with Combat Tentacles instead of arms.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Yza and Mill are queens who kick ass when necessary.
  • Shock and Awe: One of the Intruder’s abilities.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Intruder’s description as a biomechanical abomination is a reference to H. R. Giger’s works.
    • The queens Yza and Mill are named after the Brazilian female singers Isabella Taviani and Myllena, who are married to each other. The characters' royalty status is a reference to the singers' song "A Imperatriz e a Princesa" ("The Empress and the Princess"), written and performed by them in a duo, which is essentially a lesbian fable about an empress who's locked in a tower and is saved by the princess.
  • The Stinger: The queens have a moment of peace and love in their garden, eating aphrodisiac fruits.
  • Villain Holds the Leash: Zimtar controls the biomechanical monster known as the Intruder.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: Salima and Almerlae.
  • Weredragon: Salima and Almerlae, again. It also applies to Djal.
