Sweet Reincarnation (Okashi na Tensei) is a Japanese Light Novel series written by Nozomu Koryu and illustrated by Yasuyuki Shuri. It began as a Web Serial Novel that was first released on Shousetsuka ni Narou in February 2015. It was later acquired by TO Books, who have published volumes in print since October 2015. A manga adaptation, written by Midori Tomizawa and illustrated by Seriko Iida, has been serialized in the Nico Nico Seiga-based Comic Corona manga service since December 2017, and is licensed in English by J-Novel Club. An anime television series adaptation by Synergy SP premiered in July 2023.

A promising pâtissier meets his demise and leaves the world without ever having achieved his dream of making the world's greatest pastry. But when he is given another chance, he reincarnates as Pastry Mill Morteln in a magical world, determined to be successful this second time. His life would not be as sweet as his treats, though, as he encounters unfamiliar hardships in the magical world. To get one step closer to his lifelong desire, Pastry must learn how to fight, utilizing his confectionary knowledge and discovering magic along the way.

Tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Pastry Mill Morteln is a sweet boy, but if you put the lives of the people who fall under his father's dukedom, or anyone he cares for, at risk, he will make you feel the pain you inflict on others, quite literally using his unique "replication" skill.
  • Death by Irony: The main character is crushed in the opening scene of the first episode by one of his culinary sugar models. Fittingly, the sugar model was that of The Phoenix.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Many of the names, ranks, etc. carry food-themes in them.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: After returning home, Casserole breaks the news to Agnes that their son Pastry has been engaged to Lady Licorice; however the way he worded it initially makes it seem like Casserole was cheating on her.
  • Power Copying: Pastrys' Magic ability allows for him to copy the magical abilities of others and utilize them. Due to how OP this is, Pastry and his family hides it as the ability to create images on solid surfaces.
  • Reincarnate in Another World: The main character dies and is reborn in another world.
