A series of paranormal novels by Isobel Lynx, which follow the journey of Ian Donovan, who is a medium.
The first installment, Soul Survivor, was published in October 2023.
The series provides examples of:
- Astral Projection: Ian separates his soul from his body to travel to the In-Between by the means of a Spooky Séance.
- Berserk Button: Though he's normally calm and collected, Ian’s temper flares up when someone implies that his mom is dead or that he needs psychiatric help (because deep down, he knows that he does).
- Big Fancy House: Ian’s home is described as a historical seven-bedroom colonial with a large, private property and lush landscaping. Samson calls it a mansion.
- Died Happily Ever After: The afterlife is described as peaceful and easy as opposed to living.
- Evil Aunt: There are no redeeming qualities to Aunt Lillian, but her presence makes for good Family Drama.
- Ghostly Chill: Ian’s aunt complains that the house is drafty. Samantha wonders if a window is open since it got cold.
- I See Dead People: Ian is a medium and can see ghosts.
- Lonely Rich Kid: Ian is born to a well-off family, has no close friends, and feels like an outsider.
- Medicate the Medium: Like a typical special child, Ian was evaluated by a psychiatrist who only made things worse because All Therapists Are Muggles.
- Our Ghosts Are Different: several ghosts make an appearance in the story as seen or described by Ian.
- Psychic Powers: Ian exhibits skills in mediumship, precognition, and Astral Projection.
- Small Towns: the fictional town of Eidolon Falls is a small valley town in Adirondacks where Everyone Went to School Together. Even though Nothing Exciting Ever Happens Here, it's a Supernatural Hotspot Town.
- Spooky Séance: Ian attempts to contact the spirit of his dad.
- Layered World: Three planes of existence are said to exist: The Real World, The Other Side, and The In-Between.
