This work contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Liu lives away from Jeff with his abusive father Bradley who is implied to be alcoholic. Jeff finds Liu naked and covered with bruises, and kills Bradley in a fit of rage.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Jeff the Killer's signature phrase "Go to sleep" is what he used as a soothing mantra to himself whenever he felt stressed.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Troy tries him to stop Randy from mocking Jeff's mental issues, unlike the original character who had no problem assisting Randy's crimes.
  • Adaptation Name Change:
    • Jeff Walters is the titular Jeff's full name instead of the original Jeffrey Woods.
    • Jeff's father is named Bradley instead of Peter and his mother is named Martha instead of Margert.
  • Beard of Evil: Bradley Walters is an abusive father, and Jeff notes his "terribly groomed beard" after killing him.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Jeff's father may have been uncaring, but this story has him physically and sexually abusive of Liu and possibly Jeff.
  • Fauxreigner: Keith puts on a fake southern accent, as opposed to Troy's authentic one.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Randy gives Jeff a knife to kill himself, but Jeff instead kill Randy.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Randy, Keith, and Troy are given the surnames Graham, McNelly, and Fitchett.
  • Parental Incest: Bradley molests his son Liu, driving Jeff to murder him.
  • Spared By Adaptation:
    • Jeff kills his father for his abuse of Liu, but not his mother or Liu.
    • Jeff only kills Randy, not Troy or Keith.
