"I saw you at the edge of the abyss and something inside of me rebelled"

Dryadalis is the first novel in the Thirteen Thrones saga, by Jessica Galera, a story in a modern fantasy land divided between the world of light, Luzaria, and the world of shadows, Noctia, where our young main characters are faced by adventure, romance, love, myths, mystery, and intrigue related to the murder of a royal family in Noctia and the plot to conquer both worlds.

Humans, elves, faeries and tides live together in the hustling city of Luzaria. But when Curfew rings, the streets are empty and from the dark walled off zone of Noctia, the gates are opened: necromancers, sorcerers, witches, vampires, werewolves and demons can stroll through at their leisure around the luzaran city, protected by the Common Law, that justifies any of their actions that takes place between midnight and the break of dawn.

And the situation is that luzarans and noctis have gone years taking actions with the goal of strengthening bonds between both worlds, divided only by the huge wall that encloses Noctia inside of it: The Empire of the Night. Common Law includes as well the so-called Commute.

June is a young human that will spend her next year living in Noctia, while Tayr, a mysterious sorcerer, will be in her home, under her roof, and next to her brother Adrien, whose curiosity over him will grow at the same time an uncontainable attraction does, but... Who is really Tayr?

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: June gets stuck in the swamp version of quicksand and starts shouting, crying, and shaking herself, hoping the ones who are already watching will take pity on her.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: June ends up kissing the vampire Eugenne, and isn't above fixing on Elain, the mysterious sorcerer.
  • All Up to You: When Tayr is captured by demons after falling into their trap, Adrien decides that he's the one who has to find a way to get him out.
  • Anti-Hero: Tayr has a shady past, is willing to break rules, and knows a fair share of dubious characters, but is shown to be well-meaning.
  • Arc Number: Thirteen, after all, there are thirteen thrones, thirteen souls claimed by Charon, and thirteen regions in Noctia, called terras.
    • For the entire saga, the author made thirteen books total, with seven as the main story and six spin-offs.
  • Broken Bird: Tayr, who seems like he has gone through enough punishment to last for a couple lifetimes when Adrien looks at his scars.
  • Damsel out of Distress: June tries her best to be proactive, and even becomes a vampire temporarily to not having to deal with constantly being saved while she stays in the heart of Noctia, however...
  • Distressed Damsel: June' stay in Noctia has her getting constantly in trouble, meeting dangerous creatures, and having to be saved by others several times.
  • Distressed Dude: Nearing the end, Adrien goes through the Godzilla Threshold with the werewolf Moran to save Tayr, who has been saving him during most of the story.
  • First Love: Chris is supposed to be this for Adrien, although when Tayr arrives he is already reconsidering his relationship.
  • Lovable Rogue: Tayr is mysterious, shady, and over time more warning signs are shown all around him, but Adrien can't stop loving him.
  • One True Love: From Tayr's words at the end, it seems like Adrien is this.
  • Romanticized Abuse: Very much averted, Chris' abuse towards Adrien is constantly called out by his sister, Tayr, and at the breaking point, Adrien himself, when he finally breaks up with Chris.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: At the end, Tayr is separated from Adrien, but not before letting out an Anguished Declaration of Love.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: Between Adrien and Tayr a couple days after the latter first arrives at his house.
  • Will They or Won't They?: We don't know... Yet.
