- "I'll protect you... For that, I will even become evil!"
The Daughter of Evil: Cloture of Yellow is the first Light Novel in The Daughter of Evil series of the Evillious Chronicles franchise. It was written by the Japanese producer Akuno-P (mothy) and illustrated by Ichika, released in 2010. In 2014 PHP made a re-release of the novel with several revisions from mothy which expanded on several scenes.
The novelization of the Story of Evil song series, the story concerns the tyrannical Princess Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche, whose cruel and petty reign promotes political conflict and sparks a revolution among her citizens. The story centers around her long-lost twin brother turned servant, Allen Avadonia, who has sworn to protect her — it also focuses on his foster sister, Germaine Avadonia, who has sworn to dethrone her.
The story is set in the Evillious equivalent of France and draws inspiration from the French Revolution while beginning a saga that hints at a much deeper story for the franchise on the whole.
The story, in addition to its P.O.V. Sequel Wiegenlied of Green, has now received a manga adaptation by Ichika, the first volume of which is fan translated here.

The light novel provides examples of:
- Bittersweet Ending: In the end, Germaine and Allen are able to succeed in their goals; Riliane is deposed and her people have a marginally better future without her, while Allen saves his sister by taking her place. Both these victories ring hollow, however, because Germaine had to kill her foster brother and realizes she hurt a lot of people to achieve her revenge, while Lucifenia loses its freedom to Marlon. And, well, Allen dies.
- Book Ends: Allen's first and last line of dialogue is: "Oh, it's snack time."
- The Caligula: Riliane, during the course of the novel, who taxes her subjects into starvation during a famine and executes innocent people left and right.
- Death Seeker:
- Gast Venom states he's fighting to find a good location to die, and eventually decides to make the palace of Lucifenia his final battleground. He does not hold back in battle, though, and he comes close to killing Germaine before she gets the upper hand.
- The revised edition of the light novel suggests Leonhart secretly wished to die for his sins as well, with him cryptically discussing how it might be better for him to step down and later forcing Allen to kill him in the duel.note
- Declaration of Protection: Allen's declaration is that he will protect Riliane even if it makes him evil.
- Deuteragonist: Germaine is the second protagonist for this novel, focusing on her leading the revolution.
- Died on Their Birthday: Allen (disguised as his twin sister, Riliane) is executed via guillotine for his sister's crimes on their shared birthday.
- Disguised in Drag: Allen dresses himself up as a girl in order to pull off the swap that saves Riliane from execution.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Princess Riliane's response to the man she loves rejecting her in favor of a girl from another country is to completely destroy said country, and she regularly sentences people to death for minor "crimes" such as spilling water on her dress or just looking at her the wrong way.
- In the manga we get to see a scene where she threatens to cut Allen's head off because he was winning at tag.
- Dwindling Party: They were a small party to begin with, but the Three Heroes get subjected to this early on; first Leonhart is killed, then Elluka leaves, and Mariam is finally killed in the Revolution.
- Dying Alone: Riliane fears this will happen to her as the Resistance breaks into the palace and all her other servants have fled.
- False Confession: Allen tells Kyle that he's the one who killed Michaela, even though he doesn't know who actually did it.
- Foregone Conclusion: From the songs. The revolution is successful, and Allen pulls a switch with Riliane and is executed in her place.
- Freak Out: After Leonhart's death, Germaine spends multiple paragraphs mentally ranting against Rilliane.
- Freudian Trio: The Three Heroes of Lucifenia, with Leonhart Avadonia as the Id, Elluka Clockworker as the Ego, and Mariam Futapie as the Superego.
- Food Porn: Riliane's candy castle in the first chapter. Actually a plot device—it's so elaborate and extravagant (while the common people are suffering a famine) that it enrages Leonhart into taking action against her.
- Kangaroo Court: Such is the norm for the Lucifenian justice system once Riliane is in charge, with citizens beheaded for the most ridiculous of crimes.
- La Résistance: Germaine starts building one after her father's death, and it eventually grows into a complete revolution.
- Last Disrespects: Elluka Clockworker attends the funeral of Leonhart Avadonia, apparently just to call him an idiot, and leaves.
- Love at First Sight: Allen falls in love with Michaela on first sight.
- Meaningful Echo: Allen's statement of: "If it's to protect you, I'll even become evil" is echoed by Germaine's: "If it's to overthrow the queen, I'll even become evil."
- Moral Event Horizon: In-universe, the "Green Hunting" was such a brutal and devastating event that it led the Lucifenian people to rise up and decide that Riliane must be punished for it.
- Murder the Hypotenuse: The whole reason Elphegort was invaded and the green haired women were massacred in Story of Evil was because Riliane wanted to be sure she killed said hypotenuse, which she succeeds at.
- My Master, Right or Wrong: Anyone in the Lucifenian court who took Rilliane's side in the revolution, most notably Mariam and Allen.
- Off with His Head!: Rilliane gives this order several times throughout the novel for people she's angry at or doesn't like. In the end, Allen gets put to the Guillotine in her place.
- Overly Long Scream: In the novel Allen's scream when he sees Michaela die takes up an entire paragraph.
- Princesses Rule: Riliane. Justified, as she refuses to accept the title of Queen until she's come of age out of respect for her late mother.
- The Mole: Chartette dons a disguise and starts feeding information to the growing rebel group in Lucifenia, even though she still spends time drinking tea with Riliane. It's only after the revolution hits the palace that she severs all allegiance with Riliane.
- Royal Brat: Riliane in particular, making outrageous demands such as having a miniature castle made of cake served at her birthday party.
- Shout-Out: Riliane and Allen's Twin Switch is to A Tale of Two Cities.
- Sketchy Successor: Queen Anne was actually quite competent and fair, with Lucifenia becoming prosperous under her reign. Once she died and her daughter Riliane took over, it all went right down the drain.
- Take a Third Option: Allen attempts to do this in the duel with Leonhart in the revised version of the book, injuring his sword arm so that he can never raise it against Riliane, and then encouraging him to escape. Leonhart refuses.
- Twin Switch: A major plot point when Allen switches places with Riliane to save her from the guillotine.
- Unreliable Expositor: Ney provides some character exposition in the beginning through gossip, although, being hearsay, a lot of it is questionable. Especially once it's revealed she's a spy for Marlon.
- Unstoppable Rage: The entire Lucifenian revolution is the product of Germaine's anger over losing her father.
- Wham Line: From the final chapter:Prim: You rest for a while, my lovely daughter... Marlon's thirteenth princess, Ney Marlon.
- Yes-Man: Minis, but it's important to note that the rest of Rilliane's court is like this as well out of fear she'll behead them.
- You Killed My Father: Germaine's and Allen's adopted father Leonhart rebelled against Riliane's rule and snuck food out to the hungry people, but was caught and killed for his efforts. Germaine swore to avenge him, and later led the successful revolution against Riliane. Well, mostly successful. Then again, Allen was the one who actually killed Leonhart, so...
- Before his death, Germaine pleads with Allen to escape with her, but Allen plays this card so the execution would continue.
- Villainous Breakdown: Riliane experiences a breakdown in the face of her incoming capture.
