Hilarious In Hindsight / Five Nights at Freddy's

In General:

  • The image caption for Video Game Movies Suck was once a quote about how a Five Nights at Freddy's movie probably wasn't such a good idea. It was soon changed after a movie really was announced.

Five Nights at Freddy's:

  • The newspaper in the game's opening, Scott mentions getting a job as a sack boy, a cashier or a warehouse worker is both better and more dignified than working at Freddy's. A year after the game's release, he claimed that he was working as a cashier at the time he made the game.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2:

  • Toy Bonnie is oddly reminiscent of another androgynous rabbit.
  • Remember how some people didn't find Foxy's jumpscare in the first game all that scary? Well, Scott fixed that!
  • A common Fridge Logic question in the original game was, "Why couldn't Mike just wear a Freddy Fazbear suit to fool the animatronics?" You can do that in the second game; the trade-off is that you can't use the cameras or flashlight while wearing it, you don't have any doors, you have three entrances to your office instead of two, and it doesn't affect Foxy, Mangle, note  or the Puppet at all.
  • The difficulty of protecting yourself from four killer animatronics with only two doors and limited power was lampshaded by the fandom over and over again. But seeing as how this is a prequel, who could've guessed that the infamous FNaF 1 guard Mike Schmidt actually got it 'easier' than his predecessors?
  • This edit of the Bonnie teaser image, made when some fans were unhappy that Bonnie was apparently dismantled and replaced with a "cuter" counterpart. Turns out that 2 is a prequel and this image is an awful lot like what happens in the game's ending, with the new animatronics set to be scrapped and the old ones due to be refurbished and used for the next Freddy's location.
  • When Toy Bonnie was first revealed, the fanbase hated him for replacing the original Bonnie. Now, he's an Ensemble Dark Horse, getting the most affection out of all the Toys.
  • Balloon Boy is a small robot whose body consists mainly of a sphere, and his initials are "BB". An entire year later, the world was introduced to BB-8.
  • Scott Cawthon's Mathematician's Answer as to Mangle's gender was actually pre-empted by this Spiked Math strip, wherein an actual mathematician answers the question "Boy or girl?" with "Yes."

Five Nights at Freddy's 3:

  • Like Foxy's jumpscare in the first game, people thought Balloon Boy wasn't that scary in his first appearance. Scott fixed that with Phantom BB, just like how he fixed Foxy's jumpscare in the second game.
  • Springtrap's pre-release nicknames "Hybrid" and "Salvage" are still accurate post-release, as the game provided different contexts. Springtrap is a hybrid, not of combined suits, but of a costume and an animatronic, and he wasn't salvaged from parts at Freddy's, but rather, appears to have been salvaged from the Fazbear's Fright fire.
    • Not only that, but he's also part animatronic, part human.
  • The initial assumption prior to 3's release of Springtrap being several animatronics combined into one is amusingly accurate in hindsight, given what the Final Boss of Sister Location is.
  • During a play of the game', Achievement Hunters Gavin Free and Michael Jones wonder about what Purple Guy is after beating the third night (and getting Chica killed). Michael says he looks like "a purple mummy". This, as it turns out, is really not that far off the mark at all, now that Sister Location is out (although the cutscene itself was a Red Herring, as it was Michael Afton that ended up a living mummy, rather than his father).

Five Nights at Freddy's 4:

  • Typhoon Cinema made a video including a small Springtrap plushie. Come the seventh teaser, there's a small Springtrap named Plushtrap; he's even sitting on a chair, just like in the video.
  • These videos are even more hilarious as the cupcake can now jumpscare you. Bonus points as the cupcake in the video has teeth like its nightmare design
  • Way back in the first game's Custom Night, players would set the animatronics to 1-9-8-7 in hopes of finding out more information about the Bite of '87, or even play during the day/night of the event, only to have it trigger Golden Freddy's jumpscare before crashing the game. At the time, people just assumed Scott was acting as a Trolling Creator, but since this game shows that Fredbear/Golden Freddy actually was the cause of the Bite of '83, perhaps fans actually did get a clue about the event they were hoping for.
  • People loved to make joke theories about how the cupcake was actually a persisting threat in the games. Now it really is.
  • The subtitle of this game is "The Final Chapter", presumably named after the Friday the 13th film with the same name, which was decidedly not the final chapter in that franchise. Come Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location, and the game's subtitle is parallel with the film's.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location:

  • Back during the development of Five Nights at Freddy's 3, people postulated that Springtrap was a hybrid of other animatronics. Ennard in this game actually is a conglomerate of the other Sister Location animatronics.
  • The initial confusion over whether or not William was Springtrap in the final Custom Night cutscene now seems rather quaint, considering Scott went above and beyond clarifying the issue; not only by having a returning Springtrap credited as William Afton in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, but also copyrighting that particular instance of the character under the same name.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator:

  • Now that everyone knows that this game is FNaF 6, if Scott wants to keep up the facade of Pizzeria Simulator being a mere spin-off, he needs to actually cancel the "real" FNaF 6.
  • One of the fan nicknames for Springtrap in Five Nights at Freddy's 3 was "Salvage". Guess which part of the game Springtrap shows up in this time....
  • In Five Nights at Fuckboy's 3, there is a running joke with several Superbosses, revealing that Fazbear Entertainment was creating "budget buddies" — basically low-budget animatronics, including using bare endoskeletons as animatronics. Come this game, and with characters such as "Pan Stan" and "No. 1 Crate" (which are just a random junk with attached limbs and drawn faces/googly eyes), it seems that Fazbear Entertainment really is that lazy.
  • Since it appears that this game takes place during the opening hours, it really is your day shift at Freddy's. It even has its own Orange Man in one particular minigame.
  • One of the purchasable animatronics, El Chip, is a blatant call back to Scott's previous game Chipper and Sons Lumber Co., whose critics accusing the characters looking like creepy animatronics was what inspired him to develop the first FNaF game.

Ultimate Custom Night:

  • On April Fools Day, Foxy's (fake) mechanic was to help you out when things were looking dire, referencing the theory of Foxy being a good guy. Come later, and Rockstar Foxy gets a similar mechanic (though he's not entirely good in this case).

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach:

  • Quite a lot of fans have commented on or joked about how Glamrock Freddy sounds like Optimus Prime, but then Glamrock Freddy's voice actor (Kellen Goff) would reveal later on that he actually has voiced Optimus Prime before at Universal Studios Hollywood.
  • One of the scrapped movie scripts was a "pawn shop" story, in which a child forms a bond with an animatronic they found with the other robots trying to bring them back to Freddy's. Security Breach is an actual mainline game with a "boy and his animatronic" storyline, this time with the child trying to escape the PizzaPlex with Glamrock Freddy's assistance.
  • "Freddy and Friends: On Tour!" is a series of cartoons taking heavy inspiration from Hanna-Barbera animation released to promote Security Breach. In December 2022, it was announced that Matthew Lillard, who is famous for playing Shaggy in the live action movies and is his current voice actor, would be playing William Afton in the FNAF film adaptation.
  • Before Ruin's trailer was released, somebody on Reddit created a fan-made list of achievements, most of which revolve around helping the animatronics. The achievement for helping Roxy is called "Number One Fan". In Ruin, not only is Roxy revealed to be Cassie's favorite, but Roxy actually calls the girl "Number One (Twice)", and is indeed helped by being redeemed.
