  • While it is definitely Tear Jerker material, the scene in Mama, wo bist du? where Rudolf tells Death "Yesterday I killed a cat!" and shakes Death by the shoulder earnestly. Death - at least Mark Seibert's portrayal - smiles warmly and proudly at the child. Given the Manipulative Bastard he is, this is a little icky, but after seeing so much Parental Abandonment and Sophie's iron rule, it's nice to see someone look at Rudolf with affection, even if it's faked.
    • Furthermore, Death is the only person in the show to be physically affectionate with Rudolf, carrying him like he did with Elisabeth, and encourages Rudolf's ambitions.
    • In the Essen staging of Mama, wo bist du?, Rudolf hugs Death during the final verse, and Death puts his arms around him. How can a scene be so heartbreaking, so creepy, and so adorable all at once?
  • The look on Máté Kamarás' face in "Der Schleier Fällt" when Elisabeth finally comes to him: he looks so surprised, like he can't believe he finally gets to hold her.
  • In the Korean versions, Rudolf hugs Death at the start of Die Schatten werden länger. Sadly, like almost everything else in this show it's a moment that immediately becomes Harsher in Hindsight and a Tear Jerker.
  • Lucheni, of all people, gets a brief heartwarming moment in some Takarazuka versions. During "Kitsch (Reprise)", he's selling cups with Elisabeth's face on them, and someone tries to steal a cup he just sold from the girl who bought it. Lucheni immediately glares at the thief, who hands the cup back to the girl.
  • While inaction causes almost all of the tragedies in the show, the unconditional love of Franz Joseph for Elisabeth is something people can only dream to achieve. He ditches his to-be bride for her, marries her as a teen, seeks her comfort first when stressed, offers her his shoulder after Rudolf's death and when she ditches his last attempts to make her love him in "Boote in der Nacht", he quietly accepts her decision to travel the world instead and gives her everything she needs for it.
    • And, at least at first, Elisabeth seems to reciprocate Franz Josef's feelings. At the end of "Der Letzte Tanz", Elisabeth is so freaked out by Death's reminders that she's going to be his one way or another that she turns to someone for comfort and safety. The person she turns to? Her new husband.
  • Behind the scenes, it seems people (especially cute if it's Deaths and adult Rudolfs) can't stop doting on the little Rudolfs. Given that whenever the kids appear onstage, it's a heartbreaking moment...
  • During the 2019 concert in Vienna:
    • Pia Douwes directs the first few lines of "Ich gehör nur mir" to composer Sylvester Levay, who conducts the song. Levay and Kunze may have written the musical, but no one will ever be able to capture the entirety of the empress, or make her their property.
    • Death sits next to Sisi for act 1's "Die Schatten" and wraps a shroud around her like a shock blanket, as if to comfort her after little Sophie's death.
    • Death carries child Rudolf on his shoulders.
    • The mere fact that so many cast members across the production's history returned - especially Pia Douwes, whose acting remained convincing despite age and the personal tragedies she had gone through.
