Heartwarming / Around the World in 80 Days (2021)

Go To

Episode 1:

  • When Abigail is about to set off on her journey chronicling Fogg's around-the-world trip, she stops to go back for one treasure; a photo of her and her father.

  • Lost and alone in a foreign country, Fogg's thoughts go straight towards making sure Abigail's safe.

Episode 2:

  • Fogg bonding with Alberto Moretti over their love of Jules Verne and Alberto's model rocket. It doesn't last due to Moretti Sr's resentment, but they're both clearly loving the opportunity to nerd-bond.

  • After an episode of contemptuous behaviour about his son's "dreaming," Moretti Sr has to keep the injured boy awake until they can reach a doctor. He does so by asking about his rocket in a huge amount of detail, as father and son finally manage to bond.

Episode 3:

  • When Abigail offers to set the public record straight on the lies spread by her father, Jane Digby tells her she doesn't care what the public thinks of her, but asks Abigail to make sure her children know the truth. Abigail promises to tell them.

Episode 4:

Episode 5:

  • Passpartout may be misguided in his actions, but he returns to his Dark and Troubled Past to help Fogg, out of genuine remorse for his previous actions and desire to help.
    • Passpartout confesses to his theft, knowing he will almost certainly go to prison, in order to save Fogg.

  • The Governor from whom the White Dragon was stolen is furious, not because his house was robbed or his property stolen, but because someone made his wife cry! He then stiffly tells "Clemmy" that he's not good at expressing his love for her, or his gratitude for the sacrifices she's made for him, so he gave her the White Dragon to show her. His wife persuades him to drop the charges by telling him the necklace made her uncomfortable because it wasn't her love story, and she has her own.

Episode 6:

  • Passpartout confesses to his misdeeds. He does it to snap Fogg out of his depression, but it's clearly an excuse and he just wants to come clean.

  • Abigail playing peacemaker between Passpartout and an enraged Fogg. It's partly pragmatism as they must rely on each other to survive, but she truly does want to help them reconcile.

  • The raft. Fogg makes it while enraged against Passpartout, but has nothing to tie it with. Passpartout finds some vines and finishes the raft overnight in heavy rain, making himself sick in the process. He's so sick he'll die unless he's kept warm, and the firewood is quickly exhausted. Fogg burns the raft without hesitation to save Passpartout. This marks the trio becoming True Companions at last.

  • Fogg tells Abigail and Passpartout about his history with Estella. It's clearly hard for him to talk about, and it's significant that he trusts them with the story.

  • The Reform Club hold a memorial for Fogg. They lose points for Bellamy doing the euology, but still.

Episode 7:

  • Abigail telegrams her father to tell him she's alive despite Fogg and Passpartout's point that they're better off being "dead" so Kneedling will stop coming after them. Despite recent revelations, Abigail still loves her father and won't let him think she's dead even for safety reasons.

  • Fogg's reaction to being told that Abigail and Passpartout are interested in each other is to decide to get out of their way, much to Abernathy's disgust.

  • Fogg is ordered at gunpoint to cut Passpartout's finger off and "choose which side [he's] on." Passpartout urges him to do it, rather than get killed trying to protect him.

  • The Reform Club is consumed with cheering when they hear that Fogg is still alive. As Bellamy angrily sweeps outside, he passes some staff bringing the world map showing Fogg's process back out.

Episode 8:

  • Fogg and Estella's reunion. They discuss their relationship, her life since and she encourages him to win his bet and stand up to Bellamy.

  • The entire Reform Club cheers Fogg as he's running into the building and continues to do so when he locks the smoking room. Instead of demands or threats, the members eventually sing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" to convince him to open up.

  • After winning the bet, Fogg goes on one knee to light a cigar for Passpartout.

  • The trio setting off on another adventure.
