  • Why does Katie Killjoy actively antagonize the literal Princess of Hell both on and off camera? As an obvious satire of mainstream, corporatist news outlets, shouldn't she be kissing the ass of any powerful figure who comes her way, lest she alienate powerful sponsors?
    • It could be possible that deep down, Katie Killjoy is just jealous of Charlie and trying to hide it. Despite being rich and working at the number 1 news station, she’s still just a common news reporter while Charlie is the Princess of Hell and Lucifer is her own father.
    • It also seems like Charlie doesn't have a very high approval rating and doesn't get the same amount of admiration that princesses usually get, and it's possibly because she suffers All of the Other Reindeer due to being an All-Loving Nice Girl with a Rousseau Was Right stance among an entire realm of horrible people who thrive off of drugs, murder, and sexual deviancy. That's why she is openly disrespected and insulted (for example, the camera guy calling her a "stupid bitch"), and why no one was afraid of mocking her idea. If Charlie was more revered by the population, then Katie would have sucked up to her.
    • Given that Charlie's mother can't seem to give her the time of day and her father is implied to not believe in her dream either, the denizens of hell probably took their cue on how to treat Charlie from her parents.
    • According to a tweet, a live stream, and a Q and A, the denizens of Hell just don't respect Hell's royalty in general due to being jerks and all that don't recognize titles. What recognition they do show is more out of fear than actual respect. In Charlie's case, due to her personality and not being that intimidating, she isn't really respected at all and instead mocked.
  • "You fucking would, Tom". Uh, "would" what, exactly? What was Katie referring to here—he would recognize the name of a porn star? He would acknowledge that Charlie has a semi-famous lodger, thus indirectly supporting her? Or was she just mad he seemed to be encouraging Charlie's talking points?
    • It's likely the first one—he "would" recognize a porn star by name. Tom has already been established by his comments towards Cherri Bomb to be a pervert, so Katie's remark is building off of that.
    • It's probable that she's accusing him of being homosexual since he instantly recognized a gay porn star by name.
  • So in this show, Hell can only have a finite amount of people in it. So what about Heaven? Would it be as limited too? And if so, wouldn't redeeming sinners be All for Nothing? Because Heaven would eventually end up having the overpopulation problem too.
    • Perhaps Heaven has an infinite amount of space and dealing with overpopulation is one of the punishments of Hell.
      • Considering Hell is generally depicted as an enclosed space (which also seems to be the case here) and Heaven tends to be portrayed as open sky, that would make a good deal of sense.
    • It’s been said that the road to heaven is small and narrow while the road to hell is large and wide. Heaven probably doesn’t get as much traffic as Hell does and can deal with whatever space issues that come up in a much more humane way since everybody isn’t a bunch of unrepentant jerks getting high and killing each other.
    • Assuming this Setting has a God in its heaven, they could probably just will heaven to be bigger.
  • What ever happened to those two red goat things who participated in Charlie's song? They seemed onboard enough with the idea of redeeming demons so why aren't they working as staff at the Hotel?
    • Maybe they actually work for Charlie's father and just happen to assist Charlie too, and obviously they can't work at the hotel if they already have a job in the palace.
    • What do you want Razzle and Dazzle to do? They're just simple bodyguards for Charlie.
    • It was only the pilot. We'll likely see them besides Charlie when the actual episodes come out.
  • How come neither Charlie nor Vaggie tried to stop Alastor from completely wrecking Sir Pentious? I get that the snake was the one who started it and he survived the explosion at the end, but isn't hurting people a sin to them and therefore they should be discouraging it?
    • They looked pretty shocked afterwards, so they were probably too stunned by the violent display to do anything.
    • Plus, Alastor WAS protecting the hotel, so it was proof that, as frightening as the Radio Demon is, he's ultimately on their side.
      • Sir Pentious wasn't trying to destroy the Hotel, he was trying to destroy Alastor.
      • Sir Pentious didn't seem exactly concerned about everyone else in the hotel being collateral damage, though, considering his method of doing it was pointing a huge energy gun at the entire group.
    • I would correct the above that Sir Pentious was actually after Angel Dust initially, and whether or not Alastor cared particularly, or Sir Pentious actually was going to end up damaging the hotel and/or hurting anybody other than Angel Dust and Alastor, Alastor's response was still essentially acting in the interests of the hotel and its patrons by protecting at the very least Angel Dust from harm by an outside party. Alastor was in that moment, one way or another, acting as the hotel's security as well as whatever kind of management position he technically has for the most part.
    • Because he's Alastor and they're not suicidal.
  • "The demons here had a chance: their previous life. They got here, which means they blew it." - That's an understandable stance, especially from someone who was a serial killer in life ("Yeah I got what I had coming"), but where does that leave Charlie, who was born in Hell (and whose father is a Fallen Angel, no less), as such, this is her first chance? For that matter, is she the only one who was born in Hell?
    • Alastor did say she was "one of a kind," so she might just be the only one. Maybe she could theoretically leave by that token, as she never "sinned" per se, but she cares too much about her people for that. Alastor specifically meant that there's no redemption for the "loathsome sinners" of Hell, not that everyone in Hell automatically deserves to be there. ...On the other hand, there are crying babies in Hell. So either they were born in hell, or they're in Hell because they died before being baptized or for being crying babies. Either way they also wouldn't have had much of a chance themselves, like Charlie.
      • Charlie actually has sinned, right in the pilot episode, even. Note how at the beginning when Katie Killjoy asks if she feels stupid, Charlie responds by calling Katie a name and stealing her pen. While it's undeniably Poke the Poodle in the extreme, it's still an act which was done purely out of spite, and is thus a sin. Also note the fistfight the two of them get into; while Charlie may or may not have had any other options than to fight back in self defense, that face Charlie makes while she and Katie are screaming at each other doesn't exactly say "Turn the other cheek." If repentance in Hell matters, then sin committed in Hell likely would too.
      • Don't think those count as Charlie having sinned. Unless it's revealed that the bar is really set that extreme as to what constitutes as sin, it's safe to say that Charlie gets a pass in those moments.
      • Word of God states that there are two types of demons, those who were sent to hell as punishment for their sins(who are incapable of reproducing), and those who were born in hell naturally (who can reproduce). As a native of Hell, Charlie is probably incapable of leaving regardless of whether she's a sinner or not.
  • How did the annual purges start? Did Heaven notice the overpopulation somehow? Was it reported by a spy? Did Lucifer mention it offhandedly and Heaven think of this plan? Did Lucifer specifically ask for it?
    • It will probably be eventually elaborated on in either a future episode or Word of God, but a guess is that Lucifer proposed the idea to Heaven, likely pointing out that keeping the population of demons in check is one of the few times their desires would overlap.
    • It's not out of the realm of possibility that Heaven keeps a close eye on Hell and started the purges early on to keep the demon population under control.
    • The Helluva Boss pilot reveals that it's possible to create portals linking Hell with the mortal world. While they're also heavily implied to be something that only demons who are extremely powerful or have the right connections would have access to, the fact that it's possible to begin with means that there's a risk of demons escaping into the mortal world. Keeping Hell's population under control would help reduce that risk.
    • Which leads to the question: Why do the Exorcists leave any survivors? It seems like a faction opposed to Evil that had the capacity to eliminate it from existence would do so, unless they're bound by an annual time limit (only one day) or something like that.
      • Either God doesn't want that to happen (whether out of mercy, laziness, or entertainment), or he can't do anything about it (either for lack of power, or concerns over consequences), and neither can the Angels. That's the best I can think of, because we aren't given any canon details on the ins and outs of this whole thing yet...
    • Apparently the proportional amount of sinners in Hell makes Lucifer and Lilith stronger. Heaven took notice and made a point to cull them to prevent Lucifer and Lilith from accruing enough power to actively stand against Heaven. The Heavens leave survivors because its about depriving Lucifer and Lilith the means to fight, while they've been in some sense pardoned from execution in return for exile in Hell, not depopulating Hell specifically. Incidentally that appears to have changed per start of the series.
  • "Too late, toots. Wait, would that make me double dead? And where exactly would I go, to Double Hell?" Isn't the fact that demons can die painfully apparent to them? Isn't that the point of the purges? I get that they might not have any idea of what happens to them if they die in Hell, but shouldn't it be clear to Angel Dust that Vaggie could absolutely kill him?
    • Word of God is that only Heaven-forged weaponry can actually kill a demon, and demons are absurdly tough. Vaggie could seriously fuck up Angel, but she can't kill him.
    • Her spear is the same as the one the demon pulls out of the corpse in front of the Franklin and Rosie Emporium after the purge/during the 'chasing rainbows' song, so she probably can kill him if she really wanted to.
  • Also in regards to the "double dead" line, Jerk Ass Has A Point - how DOES someone dying in Hell actually work? Is it like the aethist idea of just witnessing a black void after you die? At least when the phrase was used in Nightmare Before Christmas, you could argue that Halloween Town isn't actually Hell, and therefore Jack would go through the usual afterlife process if Oogie Boogie managed to melt his bones. Granted, this is an issue that one can have with real world religions and mythologies, but still.
    • I don't see what makes it confusing, personally. I presumed they would just not go anywhere after they die and be permanently gone, though I've heard elsewhere that they might be just in a black void for eternity like you said. Also I'm an atheist and I've never heard of anyone who believes it's just a black void after you die, so I'm not sure why you considered it an atheist idea. I think I've only seen it in fiction.
    • As an atheist, my idea of death isn't a black void. You Just don't witness anything. Your brain stop working so you can't think, see pr percive anything in any way. You probably wouldn't even realized you are dead. Is like the phases of sleep in wich you don't dream. Do you remember what happen during those? No? Exactly. That's what i picture happening to demone and Angels after death.
  • If Razzle and Dazzle are Charlie's bodyguards why did they not kick Katie Killjoy's ass when she attacked Charlie?
    • Charlie doesn't need the help.
    • Maybe they're just really, really inept at bodyguard work or have a certain threshold of danger before they act
    • Razzle and Dazzle likely did not consider Katie to be a threat to Charlie's safety, so they probably just let it play out naturally.
  • Why does Charlie swear as much as any other character? Sure, she's a demon and the daughter of Lucifer himself, but she's supposed to be against sin. Isn't swearing a sin?
    • According to a Q and A, Charlie swearing is because she was after all raised in Hell. She may be a genuinely nice person but she's Not So Above It All when it comes to such things.
  • Hell is nowhere near as overcrowded as it could be. Charlie has enough elbow room to open up a luxury resort, and since only angelic weapons can permanently kill a demon, food / water / sanitary requirements are far less as well; you could stack demons like firewood and they would still probably be fine. Are the purges really that justified?
    • We've only ever seen Pentagram City, the capital of Hell. There's no telling how bad or how crowded things are outside of the borders of the city. As for Charlie getting her prime real estate, she is the Princess of Hell. It's implied Lucifer doesn't believe in her mission but it wouldn't be too hard for him to give her one of his old run-down bits of property for her little passion project.
    • The show also begins right at the tail end of one such purge. Presumably, the angels did their job and relived the pressure just in time for our story to start.
    • You can literally see the piles of demon corpses left behind after the purge at the start of the pilot. Hell doesn't seem overcrowded because they just got purged down to an acceptable population level.
  • How is Charlie even aware of our standards of good and evil? She has no reference; if a child grows up surrounded by unrepentant assholes, then they are unfortunately likely to assume that it is ordinary behavior and not at all unusual or wrong.
    • Might be due to herself being born part "angel", which are described as being born "only knowing good" without ever knowing evil at all. And being part of Lilith's heritage (potentially a human which ascended into a demon), she might have inherited enough of a "human" moral compass to know that what's going on around her, is definitely "not good". Not to mention having the purpose of Hell explained to her early on by either one of her parents or a private tutor that could "answer her questions" as she grew up.
    • Hell seems to have some access to information from the world of the living, going by Helluva Boss. Being a princess of Hell, Charlie would easily be able to get any information she wanted that Hell had access to from the living world. That and there seems to be at least some denizens of Hell who were damned while still being somewhat decent people, like Vaggie.
    • Word of God says that Charlie admires humans because they have the potential to go to either Heaven or Hell. She likely spent a lot of time, possibly her entire childhood, observing humans through the above methods and became entranced by their capacity for goodness. And if she was able to be influenced by that humanity, she probably thinks that other demons are capable of doing the same.
  • Why is Hell, or Pentagram City at least, set up like a worse version of earth's most sinful cities? Yes, i get that it's well, Hell. But Hell, by biblical standards, is meant as a place where sinners are punished for what they did in life, while here they're still free to indulge in it.
    • Their punishment is the overindulgence in sin, as in "do something so often and so much that it loses all sense of excitement and joy to it". Like if someone decided to eat their favorite food for every meal, every day, for the rest of their lives. They would lose satisfaction from it after a month. Alastor himself proves it, as the biggest reason fro him getting involved with the Hazbin Hotel at all, is due to his own vice having lost its allure, satisfaction and pleasure at that point, driving him into despair of mundane boredom, prompting him to take full advantage of the opportunity that Charlie's hotel can offer him in terms of variety and entertainment.
    • There is a punishment: Every year, you may be one of the random sinners who suffers being Deader than Dead at the hands of the angels. In the bible, that is what Hell is described as: a final, second death.
      • The Purge isn't a punishment, it's an "emergency solution" on a problem that the Heavens didn't expect would happen when they made the eternal prison that's "Hell" in the first place. Hell is a prison until Judgment day, where its prisoners will receive their "second and final" death as a "reward" to free them from their misery forever without actually entering Heaven at all to do so.
    • To answer the question above; while the sinners are technically "free" and can indulge in all of the stuff they did on earth, it all ultimately becomes a punishment in itself. After all, humans already do a multitude of depraved things to each other on earth so having a bunch of morally bankrupt people all in one place would result in the sinners doing all the torture themselves. The "Addict" music video demonstrates Angel becoming downtrodden and more disillusioned with what he once found fun (He labeled his box of sex toys "Work Shit" to symbolize that) and is painfully exploited by Valentino, and while he has Cherri Bomb to help him out, all of the people who have the power to do actually anything about it are either almost as depraved as Valentino is, or simply don't care. Even people who actively delight in suffering on earth, such as Alastor, are starting to become bored of all of the violence. On Earth, a serial killer like Alastor would have thrived; He wouldn't murder often without getting caught, so he probably enjoyed it when he could. In Hell, while incredibly powerful, he can't actually kill anyone anymore, at least not permanently (Pentious didn't die as far as we can tell), which is probably Hell to Alastor right off the bat. Heck, he's willing to help out with Charlie's hotel purely out of boredom and to see if people will fail, which is probably far less brutal than what he usually does. In other words, less morally bankrupt sinners will suffer torture at the hands of those more depraved, while those even worse than them will ultimately lose purpose and meaning, up to their eventual annihilation from the purge. "Hell is other people", indeed.
  • Why did Charlie's song get such a negative reaction? Real world fans and critics have been praising it as a high point of the episode. And even if no one had any faith in her cause, it was still entertaining and memorable, just as every sales pitch should be. At worst, people would have been just as sceptical as they were before and she would have lost nothing, yet it's implied that she only dug herself deeper with her song and dance number.
    • Most likely, it was due to elaborating on what this plan of hers actually entailed rather than deliver a very basic and stripped down explanation for it like she did before. Remember that this is Hell and what a sinner doesn't want to hear, is having some "delusional chick" take away all their vices by force with no say in it, like some naughty kids having their candy and toys taken away from them. That turned them against her.
    • Well, Hell is filled with unrepentant sinners who are complete cynical assholes. Just simply asking them to become good just because is enough for them to scoff at the idea. So when Charlie further elaborates her passion project through what is essentially a Disney song that heavily emphasizes on rainbows, puffy wuffy clouds, and etc., it's only natural that the literal damned would find the whole thing stupid. To anyone else, it's a wonderful song. To the denizens of Hell, it just comes off as a cringe inducing joke that sickeningly vomits naive optimism and pure diabetes. The song is shit in these jerkasses' view and pretty much further illustrates what a literal hellhole the domain that Charlie's the princess of is.
    • Also, if you look at the intro to the episode, you can see that one common sentiment among the demons of Hell is that they absolutely hate Heaven. Proposing redemption to get to the place that many of them absolutely loathe is going to get a negative reaction.
    • This being hell, the matter of Eternal Damnation would naturally be a touchy and controversial topic at the best of times (similar to slavery for African Americans or the Holocaust for Jews, ect.). In all likelihood, Being flippant, cheerful, and naively optimistic about Damnation and Redemption isn't just cringe worthy but downright offensive towards the majority of Hell's population. Heck, it's probably the only standard of political correctness down there that anyone gives a damn about.
    • With all of this in mind, what was it that made Charlie think this song was a good idea in the first place? She's lived in Hell all her life, so she has to know that demons and sinners would not be receptive to such a saccharine musical number. Why not take a more Tough Love approach or just put it bluntly like "Hey, assholes, come to my hotel and clean up your acts if you don't want to be skewered by angels every year"?
    • Charlie has been shown to be far too idealistic for her own good at times, and Vaggie literally had to talk her out of singing in the first place (and had a This Is Gonna Suck reaction when Charlie decided to sing anyway) before she went on, so this is just one of those quirks she has that she isn't very good at controlling, even when it would be a very bad idea to do it. As to why she has those traits, she's essentially got the disposition of a Disney Princess despite living in Hell, and that includes singing to express heself, it's just she doesn't live in a world where that is either taken positively by default or people don't really acknowledge the impromptu musical numbers.
  • When Charlie tells Vaggie that Alastor is on their doorstep, her immediate reaction is "don't let him in!" Her later explanation to Angel Dust shows that she's vividly aware of what he's capable of; did she really think a measly door would slow him down?
    • Perhaps powerful demons have to be invited in like vampires?
    • Alastor is well-known, and that would likely include his tendency to be highly polite. In fact, the very first thing he asks after Charlie opens the door again is "May I speak now?" Considering it's Hell, there's a very good chance that simply saying "No." at that point would have been enough.
    • Alastor himself seems to lampshade this, noting that if he really had wanted to hurt anyone, he wouldn’t have waited at the door.
    • Vaggie also knows that Alastor is a deal maker. She's not telling Charlie to barricade the doors so much as she's telling her not to humor the Radio Demon's visit.
  • What is Charlie exactly? She never rebelled against God (and thus never fell from heaven) and she never lived and died on earth (so she was never condemned). Does she even qualify as a "Demon"?
    • Depending on Lilith's status (some say she entered hell willingly before death) she could even be considered a nephilim; someone born of an angel/human union.
    • There are demons born naturally in Hell, as Helluva Boss is about imps, who are the natural denizens of Hell. We likely need to take our normal Biblical assumptions about hell in this setting with a grain of salt.
    • She's at least half fallen angel, considering her father is Lucifer.
    • I was under the impression that the sins of the father are not visited upon the child. That said, it's possible that to be "fallen" is both a spiritual and physical state of being in this setting.
  • When a Demon is killed by an Exorcist during the annual purge, where exactly do they go? They're already in Hell, so what's next? The second level as described by Dante? Do they just completely cease existing on every known plane of existence? Or are the purges to select who will have their souls cleansed, their sins absolved, and get sent to Heaven?
  • Vivziepop has confirmed that Angel Dust owns a pet pig named Fat Nuggets. What's an ordinary pig doing in Hell?
    • "Addict" shows that Fat Nuggets has eyes and spots that glow pink in the dark. Whatever he is, he isn't an ordinary pig.
    • There are also several other pictures of animals on the characters Instagram profiles that are similar to earth creatures but not quite. Given that Vivziepop has confirmed that Hell has its own ecosystems and that some demons are born there rather than condemned, it likely that some of Hell's wildlife resembles altered versions of earth animals.
  • In "Addict", any idea what Angel Dust meant by This hotel is my Atlantis? Feels like a strange line as the hotel is supposed to be his chance for redemption (or at least a shot of happiness), not for him to slide further into excess and completely crashing like him comparing it to Atlantis implies.
    • Atlantis is a mythical city below the sea—it may or may not still exist, if it ever existed. Angel's comparing the Hotel to a mythical place in the deep that a lot of people don't believe in.
    • In this case, the reference to Atlantis is a euphonious way of saying "utopia." In other words, "this hotel is my perfect world because I'm imagining that it is," or "this hotel is my fantasy world."
  • How come while most of Hell's inhabitants look mostly inhuman in appearance, Jeffrey Dahmer looks exactly like his human counterpart with demon horns and a tail? I understand the meta reason (it's so that the audience can recognize him more easily since he's a well-known real-world person), but it makes him look a little weird compared to the other demons.
    • It's likely just for a gag, but assuming that's his real appearance, it may simply be an allusion to how They Look Just Like Everyone Else! - he was so incredibly horrible in life that whatever powers decide what form you take in hell didn't want to give him a body any more capable than the one he had, so they slapped some demon traits on him and called it a day. But without knowing just how each demon's form is decided it's impossible to say for sure.
    • Another possibility is that a demon is tied to how recognized they were/are to the world above. Someone like Dahmer, who's one of the most infamous serial killers and cannibals in the history books might keep his appearance, whereas someone who was just some no-good nobody might be more distorted.
    • Alternatively, that may not be his actual appearance at all. Dahmer might look just as animalistic and inhuman as everyone else, but for advertisement, they slapped devil horns onto his human face as a weird form of brand recognition (note that his illustration also looks more photorealistic than the other demons seen on the show, suggesting it might be a painting of some kind).
  • Even assuming that Charlie's plan works, what's going to become of the denizens of Hell who were born there, like herself, imps and hellhounds and such? Even if redemption and leaving Hell are possible, what exactly can you do to leave Hell if you were born there?
    • Charlie's long term goal with redeeming sinners en masse is to ultimately render the Purge unnecessary. With few monstrous neighbors around and no yearly genocide via angelic wrath, the natural born denizens of Hell will be free to live their lives as is.
  • Near the beginning of "A Day in the After Life", Alastor walks by a(n implicitly pornographic) movie theater with police tape across the entrance. Why would this version of Hell have law enforcement? It seems to contradict everything we know about the place. The show's take on Hell is extremely anarchic and doesn't seem to have much, if anything, in the way of rule of law.
    • Lucifer reigns in Hell only by dint of fear, not respect. Lucifer is also a totalitarian ruler. I can see Lucifer maintaining some sort of security police (along the lines of the Gestapo, the Securitate, the Stasi, etc...) to enforce his will on the lower ranks of Hell’s denizens and to keep tabs on the overlords (letting them scheme against each other but making sure that they are not plotting against him). This “police” could also act as a “normal” police force if Lucifer deems it expedient. Hypocritical? Yes, but this is Hell. Hypocrisy is among the least of sins that take place there.
    • Also, I can imagine that this “police force” is where corrupt and violent cops could end up in the afterlife.
    • Lawful Evil vs Chaotic Evil. They are just another gang that is enforcing their overlord's rules/laws.
    • There's also a pragmatic reason to have a police force. Maintaining social order is important if you want to rule. You can't really have a functional society, even one as dysfunctional and violent at Hell's, if you don't have some semblance of order and security. If you can't keep the trains running on time, it's going to be quite attractive for a population of violent and angry people to replace you with an overlord who might.
    • It's also worth noting that in Helluva Boss we see some form of fire department as well in Hell. Lucifer is clearly running the place like a modern city would be run, likely to keep some semblance of order.
    • They probably just Rule 34'd Lucifer or someone in his family. Considering it's Hell, there was probably some sexually deviant stuff involved too, like Netorare, Bestiality Is Depraved, Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil, Pædo Hunt, or Scatophilia. A despot who loves his family as much as Lucifer does probably has a Room 101 built specially for the porn stars who make stuff like this.
    • Also much as Lucifer probably let's hell run itself as an anarchistic hellhole, literally, he doesn't want people to make the mistake of thinking they can go around breaking his stuff. Having cops to beat people down if they cause trouble at his business is a necessity.
  • Why does everyone interpret Alastor being caught off-guard by Angel's fellatio offer to mean he has a Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality? Wouldn't you be caught off guard by such an offer from a complete stranger in such a completely nonsexual context?
    • Because of the livestreams where his VA makes him audibly uncomfortable and nervous with flirting requests/scenarios fans send in. It's not official but Word of God has approved of the portrayal in a joking sense so fans have rolled with it.
    • While OP has a very real point, it's mostly because he's canonically asexual.
  • Does HIV exist in this version of Hell? If it does, then is Angel Dust HIV positive, and if he isn't, then how? He's a sex worker who implicitly uses needle drugs ("There's another rush of poison flowing into my veins...") in a place where no one has any health insurance. Will the series ever address the topic?
    • Helluva Boss had a joke about Loona getting syphilis so it's more than likely sexually-transmitted diseases/infections still exist in Hell. It's possible that because the denizens are mostly dead(save the Imps and other hell-born creatures), it won't mean much to the overall plot. There's also pornography in Hell, and the lack of healthcare can lead to the assumption that Valentino's porn studios don't follow the same health standards that porn actors have in real life.
    • The rush of poison line isn't necessarily literal. In the pilot, Angel attempts to use powdered PCP and mentions Bolivian marching powder (aka cocaine). Him using needles has not been seen in canon material or alluded to so it may just be a metaphor towards the high he feels.
  • If Husk is such a huge alcoholic that he can be persuaded to dedicate his entire foreseeable future to a job by offering him one bottle of Cheap Booze, then wouldn't he be the last person who should be put in charge of that bar? Wouldn't that be like sending a known wolf to look after the sheep?
    • Husk's recruitment and the presence of the bar with that are both Alastor's doing, and, well... Alastor's upfront about basically being into the idea of helping Charlie's business but not her cause in the name of reality-show-style entertainment - it wouldn't be surprising if that... "bad idea" factor was on Alastor's mind when he set it up. You could then argue "why does Charlie allow that setup to be so when it's clearly a bad idea"... but... she also didn't raise an eyebrow over or take a side on Vaggie and Angel's... dispute over Husker's summoning, and just launched into giving the guy the local Red Baron summoned a happy welcome, and told Alastor the new additions were amazing - she's probably just not... thinking about that kind of stuff rather than "Yay, the program is getting more "technically legit"!" especially after how outright rejected her first big "business pitch" was.
  • This isn't Fridge Logic so much as just a Fridge consideration in general, but that oft-mentioned scrolling news reel about the guy complaining that an orangutan insulted him at the zoo... means that animals are capable of sin in this setting. Or at least some animals. Orangutans in particular wouldn't be that surprising since great apes are actually intelligent enough to be legally recognized as people in some countries, but it still raises a lot of questions. (Admittedly this is just as much a matter of debate in Real Life, as the Christian Bible is actually completely silent on the issue of what happens to animals when they die.)
    • Angel does have a pet pig, according to side materials.
    • It’s possible he was talking about his life on earth, before he died - he also mentions a wife who got fat after “the baby”, and it doesn’t seem like earth-born demons can have children in hell.
      • Unless he had a heart attack, died, went to Hell, and immediately got hired at 666 news all within a day of meeting that orangutan, that would be a ridiculously long time to be mad about something so minor.
      • Then again, it is Hell. Petty grudges fall under Sin of Wrath: holding onto your anger long after it has ceased to serve any purpose.
  • Drug vending machine. There is somebody in Hell who is producing or otherwise procuring all kinds of drugs. That somebody has a lot of vending machines and employees tasked with maintaining them, refilling them and emptying the cash to carry back to the company/their boss. And that somebody must be extremely powerful so demons (including demonic heroin addicts) would rather pay the machine for their fix than do a quick smash and grab on the machine or attack employees during refilling/emptying of cash. They'd rather rob somebody for a small gain after they used the machine than rob the machine itself!
    • Now think about how all the other commodities are produced or procured in Hell. Mobile phones, computers, fridges, heck, even clothes and food. Somebody either has to make them or steal them. Imagine dying only to become a farmer/butter maker in Hell! Or drug vending machine refiller.
      • It's entirely possible that at least some of these jobs are done by "native" demons like imps and hellhounds. Maybe even the majority of them, considering they've always been in hell and know how things work down there, as well as it being unlikely that many damned souls are interested in (relatively) honest work.
      • We know from Helluva Boss S1E5 that in the Wrath circle, a lot of imps do work as ranchers and farmers.
    • The existence of drug vending machine in Hell also implies the existence of grocery stores in Hell.
  • Sources of meat in Hell: does it come from a) regular animals who were born and raised in Hell or stolen from living world just for that purpose b) demonic animals native to hell c) animals who died in the world of the living and went to Hell for their sins or d) animal type demons who were humans in life? Alastor who is a confirmed cannibal won't care either way but every single option has enormous implications.
    • At least some is definitely D. In the online comic, the boar demon running the Butcher shop is obviously more interested in obtaining meat than selling it. But that butcher's shop is specifically shown to be in cannibal district. Which brings a part of fridge horror as well: what was that sheep demon girl doing in butcher's shop in cannibal district?!
      • Considering her immediate fear and calling for help, it's possible she got lost, missed the signs that said it was a cannibal district, and then went in to ask for directions. Pretty standard setup for horror films and the like, or as the below says it wasn't actually in the cannibal district...that, or considering it is Hell after all and the store sold regular meats, she might've been curious about trying meat despite her new form (perhaps she had it as a human and wanted to see if she could still eat it, perhaps being newly dead) and didn't expect that she would be so quickly considered of use to the owner as more than a customer, one way or the other.
      • I think they left the cannibal district at that point since Vivienne has stated that cannibal town has a 1920s atheistic and obvious outsiders are eaten on sight.
      • Helluva Boss shows that Wrath has pig farms, which can be a source of meat.
  • What reason would an Exorcist have for abandoning their own weapon?
    • Assuming they don't just get accidentally lost in the chaos of the Extermination, it's actually a pretty effective secondary method of population control. The demons seen scavenging for spears are presumably going to use them to slay other demons. That way, the numbers of sinners can be gradually chipped away throughout the year and once the population starts to swell, the Exorcists can come down to take out a larger quantity.
    • It's also possible that not all of the Exorcists make it back to Heaven when the purge is over. We see plenty of demons taking refuge inside until it's over. But it's also possible some demons fight back, and possibly win a few rounds against the angels and take their weapons.
  • Why doesn't Vaggie have a Salvadoran accent? Alastor having a more or less "generic American" accent despite being from Louisiana is understandable, since radio personalities often adopt more "neutral" accents for wider appeal, but considering Angel Dust has a New York accent and Sir Pentious has a British accent, you'd think Vaggie would have an accent reflective of where she's from too.
    • Sometimes people who move to a different country or even just areas with different inflections will lose their original accents over time. Vaggie's accent could have been stronger when she first arrived in Hell, but over the years, she slowly adopted a more standard American accent because that's just the most common one she was hearing and it rubbed off on her. And she does speak with a bit of an accent when she's making threats in Spanish, so it's still there. Angel Dust and Pentious may have been able to keep their accents, but everyone is different. Plus, the former two are very over-the-top characters, so they might be purposefully exaggerating their accents to stand out.
    • Vaggie could also be a Salvadoran-American, like Vivziepop.
    • Because she's not from El Salvador. She's from Heaven, where apparently everyone has an American accent.
  • Why are sinners confined to the Pride Ring? In Dante's Inferno, the circles people are sent to correspond to the sins they committed in life, and I don't think the worst that any of the major ex-humans we've seen in either series have done is be too full of themselves...
    • We simply don't know yet, and this is a different work then Dante's Inferno, with a potentially different God, angels, and demons, and thus different rules for the afterlife. If you want my best guesses for it, either Lucifer made it that way for some nebulous reason like wanting to keep an eye on the new arrivals or some scheme of his that he's doing behind the scenes, or God demanded all the Sinners to stay in the Pride Ring because he wanted them to torment each other as a way of saying "Let's see how you like it when you can not escape falling victim to others sinful behavior" or something along those lines, or He's doing it to get back at Lucifer, by giving him the subjects who would cause the most trouble either in the same place he lives or at least making them get crammed together causes an additional headache of them making more trouble and chaos. Of course, for that last one, God later might've realized having the Sinners all in one spot might cause a problem for him/Heaven in some way, but decided the Extermination was easier than just rescinding his first order. They are the damned, so why should He care?
    • It might simply be out of efficiency. If all the sinners were spread throughout each of the seven rings, the Exorcists would need to descend deep into Hell where there are more places for sinners to hide and it could potentially be harder for the angels to resurface at the end. Having the sinners confined to just the Pride Ring keeps all the targets in one place and allows for an easy exit. The Exorcists entering the other rings would also put more Hellborns in the crossfire and Heaven may not want to drag them into the carnage anymore than they have to since Hell is their natural home.
    • Distance. As you can see in the sky of the Pride Ring, there lies Heaven, which appears to be a planet, this probably means that the Pride Ring is the closest ring to Heaven. And as noted in the entry above, if all sinners were allowed to enter the other rings, this would make it harder for the Exorcists to locate them all. Therefore, it would be easier to seclude them all in one area that's easy and quick to get to.
    • Another important reason is that, short of the Exorcists, the Sinner Demons are completely unkillable by any means, whereas most of the demons in hell can be killed relatively easily. Think about the amount of damage Alastor actually could do if he were allowed to leave the Pride Ring. The only demons who could stop them would be the Goetia or the SDS, and it's quite unlikely they'd want the extra work in having to keep the Sinner Demons in line, when keeping them trapped in one place solves the problem for them.
  • Given the mythical Alastor's affinity for electricity stemming back to his name starting as an alternate name for Zeus (which I assume is why this Alastor is associated with radio), why didn't the creators just run with it and make him more electricity-themed and less technophobic (assuming his issues with Vox aren't going to play into some kind of anti-tech message)?
    • You are mistaken about why he's themed after radio, and overthinking his name and point as a character. Alastor was a radio host in life, so he has a radio theme in death, and the reason he hates Vox is because Vox uses technology made after his death in the 30s, which Alastor is not comfortable with.
  • If Charlie's end goal is to stop the Exterminations, why doesn't she use her resources as royalty to try and reach out to Heaven in order to work out some sort of compromise? She might be able to get an audience with the archangels at the very least since they're her uncles.
    • Just because it might be possible, does not mean it is. Charlie might not be allowed to do so, either by Heaven or just her father, or simply put Hell is not allowed to negotiate anything with Heaven ever, including about the extermination. We simply don't know the situation proper enough to do more than speculate.
    • Come the series proper she actually tries this twice! First with the leader of the exorcists who openly mocks her and then again with the Seraphims where she actually sparks a divide among Heaven. Unfortunately the more powerful faction sides with Adam out of fear that questioning the order of things will cause more of them to fall.
  • It's been said by Word of God that the Demons are weaker than the Angels, but there's no explanation for the reason why that is? So, why is it that beings from Heaven (including Lucifer who's a Fallen Angel) are more powerful than the denizens of Hell?
    • Usually, in Christian ideologies, or fiction relating to it, demons are weaker due to the overall concept that because God is the ultimate power in the universe, and rules everything, going against such a being means you inherently reject the ultimate source of everything, and thus are weaker. God made the place, so what goes against him will always be inferior to what he made and stays with him, essentially.
  • Why did Charlie announce her project on the news when she still has no proof that it even works? Even if Angel hadn't made her look even worse by getting into a turf war, him being clean and out of trouble for two weeks doesn't say anything about him being redeemed. Why not wait six more months to a year to give him more time for betterment? They could also recruit at least a couple more demons and research some marketing tips, mental health science, and rehabilitation methods in that time, then go public with the project once it's a guarantee that the redeemed demons will get into Heaven.
    • From what we see at least, Charlie and her idea is so looked down on that no one but Angel had shown any interest in the Hotel at all, so she likely felt like getting on TV early on was all she could do to get any other demons to come along (or it was one of many attempts to get attention for the Hotel, and they all so far have failed just as miserably), and Angel as a demonstration of how Sinners can actually get clean period, since Hell actively discourages truly bettering yourself, let alone being a solidly good person. Basically, her situation is so tenuous and difficult that this weak PR she'd get if her interview had gone the way she was hoping was probably necessary, or at least she'd believe it was with how bad it is. As for not waiting to see if full redemption is even possible, Charlie is shown to be extremely naive, sheltered, and idealistic to a fault, and her demonstrated "plan" of how she expects this to go is outright childish in a lot of ways, so Charlie has both very unrealistic and immature expectations of the outcome and her approach is many layers thick with Did Not Think This Through. Charlie is, apparently, trying to do the nigh/totally impossible in Hell (redeem Sinners to the point they go to Heaven, which either never has happened, or might not even be possible for all anyone knows), has put very little serious planning into this due to her optimistic outlook and the unprecedented nature of what she's attempting, and has little to no clout in Hell to get anyone to take it seriously at all, and the very nature of Hell's society is anathema to her idea at its core, leaving her with both little support and outright rejection right at the start, and few available resources to try to figure things out. Those things might change down the line, but for now, that seems to be Charlie's situation for the most part.
    • Even if nobody takes her seriously, she's still the Princess of Hell and a privileged position like that would give her access to a lot of resources and knowledge. Nobody has redeemed a demon, but there is lots of psychological and medical information on how humans better themselves and since sinners are basically fallen humans, a lot of those same strategies should apply. Helluva Boss shows that demons are aware of what happens up on Earth, and even some of its media finds its way down to Hell like with Moxxie's Phantom of the Opera memorabilia. So a princess like Charlie should have no issue accessing that information. And even if Charlie is too naive and sheltered to take advantage of those resources, Vaggie isn't. She's already proven to be very knowledgeable about the sociopolitical landscape of Hell and she's also not above pointing out the flaws in Charlie's idealistic approach, so why couldn't Vaggie put her foot down and take the reins of the research portion of this project?
    • Got no answer there beyond the following: Vaggie just might not be the type to think of things like that, being more concerned with supporting Charlie personally and steering Charlie as best she can, but not "taking the reins from her" like that. It is Charlie's project after all, or they have some other reason for Charlie to be mostly steering everything. This has now become more Wild Mass Guessing than Headscratcher, so I'm out.
  • Why is the Happy Hotel so run-down and understaffed? Charlie's a rich royal, so shouldn't she be able to afford fixing it up or have a bunch of servants to work there?
    • Apparently not. Either that, or they had something tying up/delaying renovation progress during the events of the Pilot, since in "Addict" the place looks much better from what's seen of it.
    • Considering how little Lucifer is suggested to believe in Charlie's cause, it's possible that giving her the hotel was all the help he was willing to give her, so he's not letting her "waste" money on hiring any staff.
    • It's also possible that if Charlie puts her family's money into this project that she would feel like she is leaning too much on her parents who aren't supportive of her goal. She likely is only making use of what personally belongs to her to make the entire thing her own, even if it is slow starting.
  • Does Valentino know that Angel Dust is staying at the Happy Hotel? Even if Valentino didn't watch the news interview, wouldn't Vox have seen it since he's got eyes and ears on all the televisions in the Pride Ring and informed Val that one of his workers is currently living in a place that's trying to get him out of Hell?
    • It's already been confirmed that Val will be a major antagonist going forward, so in all likelihood, yes. But the events of the pilot take place over a matter of hours at most, so he probably hadn't been told yet. Either that, or he didn't bother to go after Angel Dust since Angel Dust is a classic backslider; he has no reason to believe that Angel Dust's efforts will succeed and just doesn't care enough to retrieve AD before he - Valentino - is good and ready to do so.
  • At the end of "A Day in the Afterlife," it's heavily implied that Alastor ate the butcher that was about to attack the sheep woman. Except...he's still stick thin when he leaves the butcher shop. Given how huge the butcher was, wouldn't his stomach be bulging? Or was the butcher immediately digested when Al ate him?
    • Alastor didn't just swallow the Butcher whole he ripped him apart, and then packaged up most the meat, while eating only a couple gobbits of meat as he left. A couple bites aren't going to make him have a Balloon Belly. If he'd eaten all of him at once maybe, though him being a demon might've made that work out a bit differently, but either way, not the case.
    • Could also be tied to Alastor's punishment in hell. It may be that no matter how much he consumes, he's never full, and always looks like an emaciated husk.
      • Given that Alastor has a a lot of elements associated with Wendigo (Antlers, Tall, Thin, Cannibalistic, even when he transforms you can hear an Elk bugle sound) this is most likely the case.
  • So a good chunk of the Hazbin Hotel cast who were once human one could easily figure out why they ended up in hell. Husk likely squandered away his life on booze and gambling, Angel Dust was a mobster and a junkie, Alastor was a Serial Killer, and Sir Pentious gives the impression that he lived his life as a Card-Carrying Villain. So what in the nine circles is Vaggie doing down there? Did she do something unforgivable that we don't know about yet, or does Heaven have something against sex workers? If it's the latter, what incentive would that give any sex-positive sinner to wanna be redeemed if it means living eternally practicing chastity? To say nothing if it has something to do with her being a lesbian...
    • Vaggie is shown to be a rather violent person (punching the cameraman who insults Charlie, throwing a knife at Angel Dust, threatening Alastor with a spear). She most likely was also that way in life and may have even killed somebody; and last time I checked, "Thou shalt not kill" is one of the Ten Commandments.
    • Easy Road to Hell. There's no reason that Vaggie should have done something notably Bad with a capital B for her to go to Hell. Depending on who you ask it could be as little as not being Christian. Odds are most everyone does enough bad things in just the course of an ordinary life to warrant a trip to Hell. Maybe there's a point system like The Good Place. We don't have enough information on Heaven's standards to know.
    • Going off her comments in "Scrambled Eggs" about learning to trust on the battlefield, it's possible she committed some heinous crimes as a solider or while in a militia.
    • "Welcome to Hell" reveals that she's actually a Fallen Angel.
  • While choosing which gun to use, did Valentino forget that Angel Dust is a Sinner, and only holy weapons and Exorcists can permanently kill Sinners?
    • Valentino was emotional and not thinking clearly, which was highlighted by Vox. When you look and all the text messages he sends Angel, he switches between threats of violence to apologetic, just like any classic abuser.
    • He specially was asking which gun made him look "sexier", so he was probably going for more appearance than ability. And while they can't be killed, the Sinner Demons can obviously still **hurt** one another. Seeing what Val does to Angel on a daily basis, death may just be gift in this case.
  • When the Vees are discussing picking someone they can use as a The Mole in the Hotel...why did no one bring up using Angel Dust? He's already been accepted in the hotel, and if Val ordered him to do it for them, he couldn't exactly refuse;
    • Vox does bring it up. Valentino says that Angel isn’t returning his calls. It’s also possible that Val doesn’t care enough to use Angel as a spy. Vox is the one who worries about Alastor’s plans with Val saying that fucking with Alastor is his kink, not theirs. Valentino hates Charlie out of jealousy for her infringing on his control of Angel but doesn’t particularly care what her goals are.
  • If angels are vehemently against Charlie's idea, and also are malicious tyrannical sadists, then how can she even hope that it would work at all? Her plan was to rehabilitate demons enough for them to be admitted into Heaven. That would certainly require Heaven's cooperation, wouldn't it? They would get to judge those rehabilitated demons, after all - I don't think that that any kind of impartial arbiter of the dead was established. And if angels have a vented interest in keeping the demons in Hell and killing them, why would they go along with this?
    • "Welcome to Heaven" shows that it's mostly just Adam and his cronies that're against Charlie's plan. The rest run the gamut from 'sympathetic' to 'skeptical but civilized'.
    • At the moment, it seems Adam and his Exorcists just might be a minority. Otherwise, there would be no real need to keep the extermination under wraps. Even Sera only allowed it, grudgingly and clearly dislikes that she had to in the first place.
  • If Alastor hates modern methods of digital entertainment and information spreading, how does he know what things like "clout chasing" or "that's the tea" mean? For that matter, how does he know what a podcast is?
    • Not liking something is not the same as being unfamiliar with it.
    • Alastor could conjure up a video camera when Vaggie him, though his first instinct was to create a old timey one first, meaning he isn't "that" unfamiliar with modern technology. It's also possible that, when comes to dealing with Vox, Alastor is only using those kinds of phrases ironically just to insult him. And even then he might even be entirely sure they really mean. For example, when he said the "TV is buffering", that is obviously mixing up a TV with an streaming video. But Alastor may not care enough to learn the difference.
    • He may keep tabs on modern slang for marketing purposes.
    • Podcasts are basically radio broadcasts but online so that one at least makes some sense for him to be aware of it.
  • What exactly is the limit to Angel Dust’s contract with Valentino? Val says he ‘owns him’ and that Angel has to do whatever he wants. Okay, so if Val is so pissed about Angel being in the hotel, can’t he just order him to come and live where he wants him to? Angel goes back to the hotel even after Masquerade, so can Val just not control him in that way or does he just not care to despite him going in a rage fit at Angel leaving? Likewise, he left multiple messages to Angel alternating between sweet talk and threats. Again, why not just order Angel to take his calls and do what he wants?
    • Being a profoundly screwed-up individual, perhaps Val subconciously needs excuses to lash out at Angel - this way it's Angel's fault for making Val punish him - so he gives Angel just enough leeway to provide those excuses by acting up. If Angel simply obeys, it's boring.
    • Episode 6 does indeed show there's limits to Val's control over Angel Dust, and most of his power over Angel seems to only be in effect when he's actively working for him.
    • It's there in the question - they have a contract. Presumably, its terms allow Valentino to punish Angel if Angel doesn't hold up his end of the bargain, but not to directly use its power as long as Angel is technically in compliance. However, Valentino can make fulfilling the terms much less pleasant if he chooses and indirectly punish Angel for doing things he doesn't like outside of work.
  • Just how strong is Vaggie? With the reveal of her being a Fallen Angel like Lucifer, it raises questions on how powerful she is. While probably no where near Charlie's level, which was why she was nervous around the Radio Demon, she could be near his level by virtue of her past.
    • Judging by Lucifer's six wings, indicating he's a seraph or something similar, he likely was of a higher angelic rank than Vaggie, who has two wings.
    • A better question is her punishment justified. If the demon was a native born one, then Vaggie letting him go was part of the deal Lucifer made with Adam. Even if technically she failed because the child was a sinner demon, I can see Sera thinking it was a bit much as a child demon is not a real threat as opposed to an army of adult demons.
  • Why do the angels not know what it takes for humans to get into Heaven when they literally created them? Do the Ten Commandments not exist in this universe?
    • The rest of the episodes may answer this question. It's possible that Sera is lying about not knowing. A lot about Heaven is still unknown at this time.
    • Considering it's ambiguous if God even exists here, it's possible Moses heard an angel randomly pull generic "good" things out of a hat like Adam did.
  • If the exterminations are meant to be a secret, then why is Sera fine with Charlie talking to a whole court of angels that don't know about them? Charlie could have easily mentioned the exterminations while she was talking about why she wants to redeem souls, but Sera doesn't even warn her not to mention them?
    • Could be that Sera decided it was a necessary risk; since if she directly told Charlie not to mention the exterminations specifically, then that would carry a high risk of tipping Charlie off to the existence of a cover up which might influence her plans. Sera might also intend to just dismiss any potential references to the exterminations by Charlie as being lies from the daughter of Lucifer... which is why things got derailed when it was Adam who revealed the whole thing.
    • It's possible that Emily was the one who persuaded Sera to hear Charlie out. Sera obviously has a weak spot for Emily and likely had to keep up appearances of being virtuous and fair in front of her. If Sera tried to dismiss Charlie outright or ignore her, it would have given Emily a bad impression.
  • How does nobody in Heaven question Adam's horrible character, and by extension Lute's? During the trial, Charlie points out how he is hardly better than most Sinners. What's more, since nobody even knows the criteria to get into Heaven, Adam can't even explain *why* he supposed to be a good person when prompted. Even if his entrance into Heaven acts as only the *proof* that he is good, has nobody in Heaven even paid the least bit of attention to what a massive a-hole he is? Or how Lute literally ripping the eye and wings of one of their own simply because they didn't kill a demon?
    • People probably assume - incorrectly - that Adam is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. Sure he's kind of a loud mouthed jackass, but he's in Heaven, so he must belong there, right? That sort of thing. He likely doesn't spend much time with Winners or even other angels outside of the Exterminators, so they only know him from a distance. For the last point, no one knows about the Exterminations but Sera, who thinks it's Necessarily Evil, so there's no reason to think that anyone would know about Lute turning on Vaggie.
  • If Alastor has been around for decades, how is that Lucifer has never heard of him? Given the Radio Demon's reputation, you'd think the kind of Hell would've already known about him.
    • Lucifer, quite frankly, does not give much of a damn over what goes on in Hell anymore. Its implied that he was more attentive in the past, but episode 6 makes it pretty obvious he just become so disillusioned and desensitised to what everyone does in Hell that he just ignores it all. Lucifer has also likely seen so many other Overlords rise and fall over the centuries, that what Alastor does, simply does not impress or shock him that much.
  • Why does Heaven even fear an uprising from Hell when they are already so much more powerful? According to Word of God, angels are superior to demons in terms of power. The reason Lucifer is the most powerful being in Hell is because he a Fallen Angel rather than demon and still posses angelic powers. Even someone as powerful as Stolas can be brought down with holy weapons. And out of however many of Exterminations there have been and out of however many demons have been killed, Heaven has tallied up exactly *one* causality.
    • Because as a dead guy once said, quantity is a quality all its own.
    • Because Adam is persistent and Sera is weak-willed and insecure about Heaven's safety, likely influenced by the mystery of the entry criteria.
    • Just spitballing, but here are some possible explanations: 1) Hell is not a threat to Heaven on an existential level, but even a minimal loss of life would be deemed an unacceptable price for a faction that doesn't really know conflict. 2) Angels are broadly more powerful than demons, but it seems unlikely that all angels are individually more powerful than every demon (see IMP versus CHERUB). 3) The more angelic weapons Hell gets its hands on, the more the power gap closes, the more the war can escalate out of control. 4) Heaven, being a place that's seemingly without conflict, may not have the emotional constitution to withstand even a doomed invasion. 5) There are seemingly a decent number of angels in Heaven that are sympathetic to Hell, such that the exterminations had to be kept secret. A full-blown invasion could heighten that schism, which could be ruinous to a world that depends on harmony and cooperation.
  • Why did none of the angels bring up Angel Dust's past of killing people within the trial? Wouldn't it be awkward for certain angels to see their killer in Heaven? And before you say they don't know, Adam and Lute brought up that he was a porn star, so chances are they (and maybe other angels) know of his life as a mafioso.
    • Angel's life on earth is more or less totally irrelevant to the trial. What (may or may not have) got him into Hell in the first isn't really important because Charlie wants to prove that absent any context no one is Beyond Redemption.
  • So the basic gist of the annual exterminations is to curtail Hell's demonic population and prevent them from being a threat to Heaven. My question is: why is the demon population an issue? Based on what's seen in both this series and Helluva Boss, the only ones who have the ability to travel to all three worlds are the Angels. The Demons that we see traveling are restricted to only traveling to and from Earth and Hell. Even the lords of Hell, Lucifer and the other Sins, can't create portals to Heaven. In fact, the only reason Charlie was able to go to Heaven in episode 6 at all was because the angels opened a portal for her. That same episode also showed that Angels can create portals to forcibly send demons back to Hell. Even if the demons did decide to rise up and invade Heaven, there's no way for them to do so since they can't create any portals to get there. So why are Sera, Adam, and the other high-ranking Angels so scared of demons rising up when they can't go anywhere?
    • Simply because we haven't *seen* any Demon make portals into Heaven, doesn't nesscessarily mean no one can. Stolas can open portals into outer space, not just Earth. And Heaven is technically visible from Hell, implying they occupy a similar dimension. Perhaps someone could travel from Heaven to Hell with ship, but portals are already pretty convenient.
  • Considering how desperate Charlie was to fight off the Extermination, why didn’t she call Lucifer? His Big Damn Heroes moment was cool, but her surprise indicates that she didn’t phone up the literal ruler of hell who’s also her dad for help? She had a whole month to prepare, and given that she was willing to make a deal with Alastor, surely asking her near all powerful father for assistance was in the cards. There’s no indication he wasn’t allowed to intervene either since Charlie is also royalty and has no problem being in the frontlines.
    • Lucifer is the one who agreed to the Exterminations in the first place. So its possible, he was under some kind of "deal" that prevented him from interfering. But Lute said in Episode 1, that part of the agreement was that the Hellborn Demons (i.e, imps, hellhounds, etc) were all exempt from the Extermination. This includes Charlie as well because she is not a Sinner, meaning she is off limits. It's pretty noticeable that Lucifer shows up the very *instant* Adam declares his intent to kill Charlie as well. So by threatening Charlie, Adam was violating the agreement, creating a loophole for Lucifer to join the fight.
    • "See, you messed with my daughter, and now, I am going to FUCK YOU!" His very words, even if they came out wrong.
  • If Charlie has wings like Lucifer does (as mentioned in a stream) why didn't she use them when she was falling, not even reflexively?
    • She might not know how to. Charlie is the Princess of Hell, so she was likely kept safe from any situation where she'd have to use her wings. Either that or her wings, like Lucifer's, are locked behind her higher demon form, so she'd have to transform into that to unlock them. Maybe they need to be unlocked first before she can.
  • Why do the Vees act like there’s this chaos and power vacuum for them to take advantage of? The Extermination began and ended in the hotel. Carmilla presumably provided gear and Rosie used the Cannibal town citizens, but neither of these seem like it would be a major dent to them. The other Overlords weren’t involved at all and lost nothing in the invasion. Vox also brags about how Alastor is ‘missing’ even though he comes back right in the ending, though I guess that can be chalked up to Vox being too presumptuous.
    • They may not know Alastor is still alive.
      • Sure, but Alastor being MIA was only one reason. They seemed to think there was this big Evil Power Vacuum for them to take advantage of when really the only one who might've lost something significant was Rosie. Every other Overlord was doing just fine. Unless they meant they were gonna go after Cannibal Town, but even then, I'm pretty sure Charlie would be obliged to help if they tried that given the aid Rosie gave her. And Vox seems smart enough to know this.
      • Not wrong but consider the other non-material part of this picture as well. Rosie probably suffered some considerable losses as while the angels were getting slaughtered they didn't go down without a fight meaning in a material sense her number of supporters is decreases and probably some of her bound souls go as well. But with the extermination canceled there has been a huge shakeup in the power dynamic of hell, after all the newer younger sinners to arrive aren't going to be culled which is going to benefit a mass media conglomerate way more then the established powers allowing the Vees to make a lot more deals without the regular power loss of the extermination. Alastor alive or dead got knocked around pretty hard which is going to damage his street cred considerably which will weaken his position for deal making and even if he's alive it'll be some time before he fully recovers meaning that the Vees primary competition is at least temporarily out of action. The Vees have an opportunity to cultivate a lot of power very quickly by stepping into the niche Alastor has temporarily vacated and the souls they target, new arrivals who were way more likely to get killed in the extermination, are now going to persist far longer.
      • He got knocked around pretty hard by an Angel, which is common knowledge to be inherently more powerful then demons, that Charlie, the princess of Hell who's higher in Hell's hierarchy than the Overlords, couldn't take down. Shouldn't the fact he did so well against someone who it took Lucifer to take down have the opposite affect for his street cred?
      • Ah but street cred doesn't exactly work like that. Getting his ass kicked on TV, even by someone way tougher then everyone else, makes Alastor look bad. Stupid demons will think he's weak because he totally did get his ass kicked, smart demons will think he's overconfident and injured because he got into a fight with an angel which he lost.
  • Why did Vox even need a spy in the Hotel when episode 8 shows he can apparently get front row seats of live feeds whenever he wants? There was no point to sending Sir Pentious in since one camera hardly adds anything to the dozens he can apparently use to spy without consequence whenever he wants.
    • Do any of his screens show the interior of the hotel? Because if not, then a spy would still be needed to gather intel on the inner workings of the hotel. Planting camera inside would be difficult and subject to discovery.
    • Having someone capable of sneaking in and listening in on hotel residents would also have been quite useful, as Sir Pentious could've eavesdropped on private conversations and reported back to the Vees, had he been a more competent spy. He was caught trying to hide a camera in a room, suggesting that Vox's cameras aren't present in bedrooms and other hotel interiors.
    • Keep in mind that episode 8 focuses on a small army of Sinners making a stand against the Exorcists, with the Princess of Hell herself leading them. This isn't a casual Tuesday afternoon in the hotel, it's a major and publically-known event. The rest of the Pride ring would probably have an interest in how things play out, which means that there are going to be at least a few cameras turned toward the battle.
    • On top of not having access to the interior of the hotel Vox was concerned about the possibility of Alastor making a deal with Charlie. If Pentious had been successful in setting up cameras everywhere, Vox could have monitored the situation and if possible order Pentious to run interference. If it wasn't possible to interfere, they'd would still at least know about the deal and not be taken off guard.
  • How exactly did Lute not bleed out, even though she's now missing an arm that it looks like, even in her talk with Lilith, she made no attempt to stop the bleeding from or even bandage?
    • Angels are tough and Vaggie didn't put her angelic spear through her skull cause of 'mercy'.
    • Angels probably can't bleed out just like how sinners can't OD. They still get all the bad effects like pain, loss of consciousness, and loss of organ function but in time these things heal because angels and sinners aren't allowed to die again. It's just that for sinners that's part of the punishment where for angels it's a reward, nobody accounted for an angel being mutilated in combat.
  • Seeing that Adam was just regular looking dude wearing a mask raises several questions. HOW was he able to do things with it on? Eating, spitting his tongue, cheeks expanding and etc? Why didn't he take it off while chilling with unmasked Lute up there? I was settling in the realization that mask was his actual face after he went to heaven since we seen angels all look different from each other. But NOPE!
    • The mask is presumably made of some kind of angelic magic and/or technology. Its shown in episode 1 that he can use holograms and seemingly control whether the holograms are physical or not (Charlie's hand goes right through his early on, but by the end he's able to grab her). So his mask could be made of the same kind of holographic tech.
    • Regarding taking the mask off while chilling with Lute that might be to do with Adam's considerably ego. He acts all high and mighty while clearly considering himself above everyone else but his looks are decidedly average, he might keep the mask on because he considers it a superior look.
  • So... how did angels not know their own weapons could hurt them? Lute ripped Vaggie's eye and wings off.
    • Well it was a traumatic moment for Vaggie, and she was attacked from behind. So she may not have been able to recall or observe all the details of what and how they did it. Vaggie also was not killed despite being heavily wounded. Adam and Lute are also both quite arrogant and may not have thought demons would be able to use their own weapons to fight back (they'd be well accustomed to facing no resistance) and they may well not even be aware that demons have been salvaging and using angelic steel at all.
    • There's also the fact that Vaggie was considered fallen at the time and whether justified or not she may have assumed she was subject to different rules.
    • Its also not so much a matter of hurting an angel as it is of killing an angel. Angels can clearly get the metaphorical snot beaten out of them like anyone else as evidence by Lucifer beating up Adam with his bare hands but actually killing one is a much more difficult task. Lute mutilated Vaggie but even then it didn't kill her.
    • There is difference between being invincible and being immortal. Sinner Demons can easily hurt each other with their own powers and weapons, so they are not immune to damage, but they cannot die by anything other than holy weapons. So any damage short of that, they can survive. So while Lute could harm Vaggie, she might not have been able to kill her. The fact that she left Vaggie alive is implies, she may not have thought she could have permanently put her down.
  • If Sinners can't die to anything except for Angelic weapons, what happens to the demons Alastor—and the denizens of Cannibal Town, for that matter—eat?
    • Being killed, dismembered, Andrea consumed sounds like a pretty permanent and irreversible fate, so it would be safe to say that they're gone for good.
      • Unless they can still reconstitute themselves afterwards, which soulds particularly horrifying... but it is Hell, after all.
    • What's left, however small or mostly digested, eventually grows back into them without exception. It's just going to hurt the entire time they're dismembered. Hell won't let them die properly and will force them back into existence until or unless an angelic weapon takes them out.
  • Angel was afraid of Val tricking Niffty into becoming a Sex Slave, but if she's already contracted to Alastor—or at least affiliated with him—couldn't he (or Husk, given how afraid Angel is of Val) have brought that up to dissuade Val from doing anything, given what Alastor is known to do to Overlords who piss him off? Or heck, why not just tell Alastor that Val tried to have his way with Niffty? The Vees would be down a number and thus less dangerous, Alastor would have a new guest-star for his show, and Angel would be free and have the perfect listening material to relax to—wins all around.
    • Angel understandably dreads any interaction with Val beyond what is necessary in the porn studio, and at the moment was probably concerned more about getting Niffty away from Val and getting the entourage back home so as to not have to be in the same room as Val. It's unlikely Niffty would even agree to go into porn; asking anyone and everyone to be in porn seems to be something Val is just accustomed to doing. Plus, Alastor wasn't at the club, so it's entirely debatable if he would actually take any action against Val, since his main beef is with Vox. Alastor might be somewhat peeved, but knowing his personality, the idea that he would go to war on someone else's behalf without gaining a substantial benefit seems doubtful. Even if Alastor were to take on Val, it would invite reprisals from the other Vees and further trouble.
  • Why didn't Alastor use any angelic steel in the fight with Adam? We saw he was actually able to do quite well on his own and even got some hits. If he had used any angelic steel, surely the fight would have gone his way?
    • Alastor is extremely prideful. It's likely that he didn't think he'd need any.
    • We see his shadow tentacles taking weapons from Exorcists to use against them while his shield was up, he may have been planning to do the same thing to Adam but never got the chance. Alternatively, it's possible that he had an angelic weapon on him but that he intended to wait until after he'd beaten Adam down with his own powers to actually use it.
  • What exactly is Charlie's "destiny", or what she considers destiny? In "Overture", starting the hotel seems to be her destiny, while in "Hello, Rosie" she sees becoming a leader and fighting the angels as her destiny. Does she have a literal destiny (this is Hell, a prophecy would not be out of the question), was she told something by her parents, or is she using "fulfill my destiny" as a stand-in for "finding my purpose"?
    • She's the princess of Hell, and inheriting the throne from her father and becoming the Queen is her birthright. At least, that's what I took it to mean.
  • If Sinners can't have children then how did Lilith—who was originally human and is indicated to be the first Sinner the same way Adam was the first Winner—become pregnant with Charlie?
    • Perhaps Charlie was born before Lillith died. Or perhaps Lucifer used some sort of magic to help Lillith conceive. Or perhaps his simply being an angel is enough.
    • Or that Lilith never actually died in the first place, as she who never ate the fruit that resulted in Adam and Eve getting banished from Eden and the "Tree of Life" which resides in it, still have access to the tree and maintained her immortality ever since. The tree of life might also be involved in Charlie's creation as it is also known as the "Tree of Souls" which when it blossoms produces new souls that falls into the Guf or the "Treasury of Souls" as it is also called. From there an angel can reach into the treasury and pick out the first soul that comes at hand and then let another angel watch over the embryo until it is born. This is in accordance to its interpretation in Jewish mythology which Lilith originates from so it could be through the "Tree of Life" that she had Charlie.
    • Well Lucifer is a Fallen Angel, so those rules may not apply to him at least. And as of the current story, it's rather hard to say exactly, what Lilith even is. Is she the first Sinner? Based on the origin story Charlie gave, Eve was the one who ate the apple and became infected with the potential for evil. So was Lilith the actually the first Sinner in Hell, or was it Eve? There's also the fact Lilith somehow made it into heaven and sports what appears to be a fairly human looking appearance relative to everybody else. Ultimately, the show has yet to provide a clear answer to this.
  • On a similar note to the above, how does Carmilla Carmine have two daughters? She may be an Overlord, but that means she's a Sinner Demon, who are confirmed to be infertile as a punishment.
    • Family bonds are not solely made out of blood and genetics. She could easily have adopted them in Hell or picked them off from its streets for one reason or the other.
    • Either that or She had them when she was still alive and they joined her in Hell after death.
  • Episode 6 reveals that Vaggie is named Vaggie because Adam named her after "the best thing ever." Why would she keep calling herself Vaggie after Lute and Adam left her in Hell and knowing Adam is a misogynistic prick that wants to kill her and everybody she loves?
    • Given she tells everyone (including Adam) to place emphasis on the hard “G” it seems like she did leave her previous name behind. As Vaggie herself points out, she’s a terrible liar, so it’s possible when asked what her name was she couldn’t come up with an alternative on the spot, and just changed the pronunciation.
    • Someone on the Fridge Brilliance page pointed out Adam was given the power to name all things on the Earth, so it's possible the name Vaggie is one such instance.
  • How were Carmilla Carmine and her daughters caught off-guard during the Extermination? Considering Carmilla is an Overlord and there's literally a countdown to the next Extermination, it's unlikely they didn't know it was happening that day, but you'd expect someone with their resources to be holed up in a secure place to have a better chance at survival.
    • Odds are whatever shelter they had been using was raided by Exorcists, forcing them to flee to a backup shelter where they were found en route.
  • Hold on; according to the Storybook Opening of the first episode, Adam and Lilith were the first humans created, until Lilith defied Adam and left him for Lucifer. And then together they decided to give the gift of free will to humanity by tempting Eve with the apple. So... where did Lilith get HER free will to defy Adam from? Were Adam and Lilith just built different from Eve and all of humanity that spawned from her and Adam?
    • Most likely due to being from the same material as Adam and being so similar to him in personality that they naturally ended up repelling from him like a two magnets of the same polarity put next to one another. Also could be the case that Adam and Lilith had free will from the start but as long they played along as the Elders wanted then they would remain in Eden just fine.
  • Why is Vaggie designated the "protector" of the Hotel when Charlie and Alastor are both more powerful and skilled than her? Like Charlie I understand cause she's busy planning stuff, but Alastor is literally doing all the protection work.
    • Alastor also only ever step in if he's in the mood to do so as by his own admission, he is only there for the show of seeing Charlie's clients trying and failing to redeem themselves. Vaggie is the one dealing with the unruly elements on a regular basis while he is off doing his own thing in his little radio tower.
    • If Vaggie perceives danger or disrespect to Charlie, she is automatically in defense mode, no questions asked, no hesitation. For Charlie, violence is absolutely a last resort and she is willing to give people second chances, even when they seem like trouble. Alastor is noticeably mercurial, and even when he does jump into defend the hotel, it's only because he has his own agenda.
  • Why was Lute so upset when Adam died? He's called her a bitch twice and "Danger Tits," once, so she's clearly been on the receiving end of his chauvinistic jackassery, so why the hell should his death bother her?
    • She was upset because she cared about him. Considering she spends time with him in Heaven, it seems that she doesn't care that he calls her a bitch or Danger Tits. Maybe she's a Female Misogynist. Maybe it's My Master, Right or Wrong. Maybe they've been friends long enough that Adam just gets a free pass. It could any or all of those. Or none.
    • Vitriolic Best Buds exists. Just because Adam might insult her once on a rare-for-his-standards basis doesn't mean they suddenly should hate each other with Lute celebrating her closest friend's death.
  • How it was that Adam could ascend to heaven? When we saw beyond the pearly gates, we saw that people there were polite, intelligent and good people all around, but Adam was exactly the contrary of that! Not even his puns were any good!
    • It's possible he wasn't that bad in the beginning, and being fed that being the universes first "winner" means he could do no wrong and spiralled from there.
    • It should be noted we at the moment only get glimpses at the Winners and yet have to actually met any of them. Hell at the first glance seems to be the place where everybody is horrible and while it isn’t too far from the truth, we also see that lot of demons (be it the Sinners or hellborn) have far more sympathetic traits than at the first glance. Given how nobody actually knows what criterias get somebody into either afterlife, it’s very likely that most people in Heaven aren’t as flawlessly kind and good as they seem (though people as bad as Adam and the Exorcists, if they are Winners, are likely still very small minority).
  • Why doesn't Angel quit if he hates the abuse Valentino puts him through so much? The stipulations of his contract mean Val can't force him to do anything while he's off the clock and outside the porn studio. So, what's stopping Angel from just refusing to go to the studio, continue living it up free in the motel with the friends note  who could tear Val to pieces, and where he'll not have to worry about finances with the money Charlie has?
    • We don't know the full terms of the contract, so obviously there's no way to know for sure, but he's probably not allowed to quit. It would be a poor contract indeed if it could be nullified so easy. And also, he needs the money to support his addictions, which Charlie doesn't pay for.
