Book 1

  • Rickard's constant exasperation to the Fairchilds' antics is this. Deliberate Values Dissonance between them leaves him floundering often at Cyril's morality.
  • Cyril's age being listed as 'None of your damn business'.
  • The author's notes constantly referring to Cyril as a 'Cuttlefish'.
    • Particularly Chapter 8's summary: 'Local Boy fights Cuttlefish and lives.'
  • Cyril's Exact Words response to Luwin asking if he was a godly man. It's also tinged with a bit of tearjerker as Cyril confesses he used to be religious until Yharnam broke him of his faith.
  • Evetta Not Even Bothering with an Excuse when it comes to the cover story Cyril is spinning to the Starks. She even admits to Benjen that she is, in fact, a living doll.
  • The only thing worse than a swordfight with Cyril Fairchild? Reading!
  • Evetta responding to a drunk Umberman's catcalling during a feast by picking him up and dumping him at the children's table.

Book 2

  • Brandon not-so-subtly nudges Ned toward Ashara Dayne, Princess Ella Martell's lady-in-waiting. Ned is flabbergasted and points out her brother is Arthur Dayne and would likely run Ned through on his sword if he tried any funny business. To their pleasant surprise and Ned's delight, Ashara at least seems interested in Ned as she dances with him three times. Prince Oberyn, who's watching the proceedings, tells Brandon he doesn't know whether to toast to Brandon's bravery or accuse him of sending his brother to die at Arthur's hands.
  • An interlude has Melisandre investigating Winterfell because something happened there which caused all of R'hllor's visions to cease (Cyril messing up the Background Magic Field, per Word of God). Richard finds her efforts to intimidate him lacking, because after all he has seen from Cyril, the Red Priestess just doesn't match up.
    • The author's note says that Cyril "damaged one of R'hllor's 5G towers".
