"Use me as a human stool!"
  • Javi and Nick get high on "divine inspiration" — i.e., LSD — while brainstorming for their script.
    • Nick’s reaction to Javi offering the LSD deserves mention.
Nick (with a "what have I gotten myself into" expression): Fuck it. (sticks out his tongue for the drops)
    • As the guys drive into town, they dazedly make some goofy faces at each other, before bouncing off some ideas.
Javi: So, I was thinking that maybe our movie would be character-driven.
Nick: Yeah. Something that doesn't rely on corny special effects.
Javi: Right. Or like big explosions.
Nick: It has to be nuanced.
Javi: And work on multiple levels.
Nick: It should be completely about performance.
Javi: And maybe it's just the drugs talking, but what if we had like a big drug scene?
      Nick: (laughing) Oh, wow!
Javi: ¡Joder, tío! It's gonna be so fucking good! But, like, what's it about?
    • In town, Nick and Javi begin worrying that some onlookers are spying on them. Before Javi triple-checks, Nick suggests giving a fake laugh, to seem less suspicious. Javi robotically chortles, then doubts to Nick that the bystanders will leave them alone.
    • When a stone wall blocks the acid-tripping duo's path, Javi melodramatically insists that Nick go over it without him. Once Nick lands on the other side... Javi anti-climatically peeks over the cracked edge, and calls out for him. Javi strolls on over back to Nick, but their reunited joy only lasts until Javi spots the onlookers again. He and Nick promptly rush back to the estate, deciding on the drive back that they should write a movie about themselves.
  • Nick finds a sequined pillow of his face among Javi's memorabilia. It creeps him out so much, that he flips the sequins to wipe away his face. Javi simply retorts that the pillow isn't creepy, then wipes Nick's image back on, and fluffs it back into shape.
    • The sequins form a double image - the first an image of Cage's face as Castor Troy, the second an image of Troy's bloodied face with the skin removed, seen briefly in Face/Off. Flipping the sequins takes Troy's face... off.
  • Nick offers to take Javi's "grotesque" Castor Troy statue off of his hands.
Nick: If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for this disturbing statue?
    Javi: Hmm. About $6,000.
Nick: I'll give you $20,000 for it.
Javi: I'm sorry, Mr. Cage, but this is not for sale.
  • Nick and Javi kill some time by switching shoes:
Nick: (staring at Javi's loafers) Are those new shoes?
Javi: These? No, I've had these.
Nick: Oh. I haven't seen them before.
Javi: I don't wear them very much. I don't think they're really me.
Nick: What? (cutting off Javi) They're great. They look incredible on you. They're totally you. Love 'em.
Javi: Do you wanna try them on? I think they would look amazing on you.
(Nick's jaw drops at the confounding offer, but after he takes another look at Javi's loafers, the scene cuts to the right one adorning Nick's foot.)
Javi: Oh, wow! Those look incredible on you.
Nick: I like how those look on you.
    Javi: Yeah.
(Javi proudly waves his own right foot, decked out in one of Nick's checkerboard-patterned Vans.)
Nick: You wanna trade? (another jaw drop)
    Javi: Like, permanently?
(Nick vigorously nods his head yes)
    Javi: (smiles) Okay.
(The guys switch their other shoes, then check out how the "new" pairs look on themselves.)
Nick: (following one last jaw drop) Cool.
(Javi silently delights in obtaining some of Nick's former Vans)

Tie-ins

  • In a Variety interview posted on the day of the premiere, Nicolas Cage claims that due to Pedro Pascal's "unique sense of humor," he has as much trouble figuring out when Pascal is joking as Nick does figuring out if Javi is evil:
    • Pascal remembers when Cage compared him to a kid pushing all of the elevator buttons. Apparently, Pascal reacted by gasping that Cage could read him so well.
    • Pascal once excitedly pointed out a cabbage field to Cage, who couldn't tell afterwards if Pascal got back into the character of Javi, or if cabbage genuinely impressed him. Pascal simply admits that he never saw a cabbage field before.
    • Cage called Pascal the strangest person he ever met, but assures everyone that he meant it as a compliment.
  • Twenty days before the wide release date, Lionsgate wished Pedro Pascal a happy 47th birthday by letting one of his many simps take over the studio's Twitter page.
  • While promoting the movie through TikTok Live, Pedro Pascal confessed that filming in Dubrovnik, Croatia made him nostalgic for portraying Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones, so he returned to the site where Oberyn suffered a Cruel and Unusual Death.
Pedro Pascal: I was able to go back to that arena, and pick my teeth up off of the concrete, and put them back in my mouth.
