  • Although the in-story reason is his having been without food for many days, the fact Jahili faints when he learns Taraji's identity is rather hilarious.
Taraji, in her thoughts: He must be weaker than I thought.
  • Dhahabu's expression after his first time mating. Mahiri is curled up beside him with a blissful smile. The lion is frozen with a look of shock and excitement on his face, suggesting a sexual version of Post-Kiss Catatonia.
  • Grumpy Tembo is best Tembo. First, when it's time for all of them to depart for Kiburi, Dhahabu and Mahiri are so caught up in talking of their love for their respective homelands as well as nuzzling and licking one another that the elephant wryly suggests he might have to chaperone them all the way back to the Pride Lands. Then, when they make it back, meet up with Taraji, and (after some My Brother is Off-Limits friction and misunderstandings between her and Mahiri) reaffirm how much each of them loves Dhahabu and can see he loves them, Tembo snarks, "Well, now that we all know how much we love each other..."
  • Having just learned the story of Giza and the Wahamiji, the party from Kusini all declare their intent to stop Kuchinja and protect their lands, but Malkia says Mahiri cannot participate because Dhahabu has gotten her pregnant already. He is flustered, if extremely excited, but his sister then has this to say:
Taraji: My my...whatever were you doing in Kusini, brother dear?
  • This gem, crossing poor Jahili being so breathless with excitement he didn't think things through with Cheko's snarky Literal-Minded-ness.
"How am I going to..." [Jahili] paused and stared down at Cheko. "You!"
"Me?" The meerkat stepped back a pace, looking confused and flustered. "What about me?"
Cheko looked down at himself, then peered over his shoulder at his stripes. "Ya know, I think you're right."
  • Cheko being given a proper advisorship position in the final chapter has a number of comedic moments, from the meerkat saying they would all suffer in boredom without him, to his constant Verbal Backspaces as he tries to be humble and wave aside their gratitude, to his dancing around in the background while Jahili wonders aloud what kind of reward he should get, to the Comically Serious way Dhahabu and Jahili speak of his advisor position.
  • Sulubu's ghost showing off what he'd have looked like as an adult, to Mfalme's (mild) disapproval. Who knew ghosts could get embarrassed?
