- Ascended Fanon: Since this fic takes a few of its cues from those written by other Lion King fans at LionKing.org, it includes the Fanon notion that Zira once had another name before renaming herself (specifically, one used by the writer Scar II). A previously-unknown son of Scar and Zira comes from a work by another fan at the site's old RP forum. And the way her father Shetani* is described in the epilogue also seems to dovetail with the common fan idea that Zira had at least one abusive parent.

- The author reveals in one of his notes that while the Kusini Pride and its characters were included to help characterize Mahiri, said characters and their past history (particularly the backstory of Malachi and Nuala) were created by his mother, who was also a member of the LionKing.org forums and wrote a fic telling that history in full.note (He had always intended Mahiri to be Dhahabu's mate, but after she and her pride were fleshed out in his mother's fic, he chose to include them as well.) Not only is she included in his list of Special Thanks, this also acts as a form of Dedication and Posthumous Credit since she died of cancer in 2001.
