LUFFYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

WARNING: Spoilers Off applies to Funny Moments pages per wiki policy. All spoilers will be unmarked.

Even for all the things it did wrong, 4Kids Entertainment's dub of One Piece can still churn out a few chuckles, even if not all of them are for the right reasons.

Moments from the actual series can be found here

  • The Theme Tune Rap, if only for its massive Narm Charm factor.
    He's made of rubber!
    How did that happen?
    YO-HO-HO, HE TOOK A BITE OF GUM-GUM!

  • Generally, any time Luffy makes an inhuman noise that fits bizarrely well with his facial expression.
    Zolo: I sense someone nearby.
    Luffy: WIIIEAOUWWWW!

  • Any time Zolo insults someone by making animal noises.
    • During Arlong Park:
Usopp: Hey, you don't have to leave any for me! They're all yours! I'll just watch!
    • During Drum Island:
Zolo: Why don't you tell her the truth? You're too scared to go.
Usopp: And why shouldn't I be? Did you get a look at the size of those rabbits, Zolo?
    • And finally, during his fight with Mr. 1:
Zolo: But look at you now. Hmph! A dog, a puppy, Crocodile's pet.
    Mr. 1: (grumbles)
Zolo: So tell me, does he give you nice doggie biscuits when he wants you to play fetch?
Mr. 1: And you. All bark, no bite.
    Zolo: (barks like a dog)

  • When Koby once again says that Alvida is the loveliest on the sea (out of fear, of course), Luffy asks him, "When was your last eye exam?" Can you say "Burned"?
    • They do it again in the Roguetown arc:
      Luffy: Alvida? Where's Alvida!?
Alvida: I'M Alvida you stretchy simpleton!
Luffy: Don't you mean, you're like, half of her?

  • This scene during the Roguetown arc. Is Nami making a Literal Metaphor or is she Literal-Minded?
Usopp: Oh man! The crowd's eating this up!
    Nami: They wish!

  • Luffy intimidating Usopp with Shanks' words is kept fairly tonally intact, save for the over-the-top voice acting and sound design, but there is something charming about him briefly imitating his accent along with it
Luffy: Take my advice, Usopp. Y' muss pick y' ba'uls.

  • Debatably the most well-known moment of the entire 4Kids dub (and the current page image) comes from Luffy and Zolo's fight during the Misty Peak arc. Namely, how Zolo reacts when Luffy first lunges at him. The overly dramatic music, combined with Zolo's over-the-top reaction, all topped off with Marc Diraison putting everything he has into that scream. That unbelievable motherlode of a scream.
Zolo: Listen up! I'm telling you, those people only took us in to capture us!
Luffy: (lunges at Zolo) SAVE IT!
    Zolo: LUFFYYYYYYYY!!

  • "Mr. 4 teams up with Ms. Groundhog Day. I don't know much about those two, but they're mean".

  • The inherent silliness caused by Luffy using his own sweat instead of blood to combat Crocodile’s Sand-Sand abilities is one thing, but the decidedly choice wording he decides to use to convey this information is... well...
Luffy: I figured out that when you get wet, your body hardens, and you can't turn to sand! So you can be clobbered when you're a big stiff! I knew it when you busted the water barrel Tutu gave me. It spilled on you, and your arm got really hard. Then I grabbed you with my wet hand, and you were in pain, which means you can't beat me when I'm wet. *squirts a bit of water from the hose onto his hand, making an odd "schplorp" noise in the process* And I bet the reason why you stole all the rain from Alabasta, is because you didn't wanna take the chance of ever getting wet. You wanna fight me, let's fight! *dramatic pause* I'm angry and I'm wet.

  • During the feast after Crocodile's feast, the guards notice the Straw Hats' behavior and deliver an Insult to Rocks:
"They're like monkeys on a banana boat, but the monkeys have more class!"
    • Usopp notices Eyelash the camel somehow made it inside the castle and is now sitting next to him, but that's not his main concern:
    "You're using your salad fork?!"

  • Luffy's attempt at insulting Zolo in the 4Kids dub is a surprisingly funny moment on-par with the actual series.
    Luffy: Zolo-brain...
Usopp: Luffy! Calling him his own name isn't a diss!
    Luffy: (Beat) Usopp-brain...
    Usopp: Try Luffy-brain!

  • The mere fact that Dick, an enemy from Zolo's flashback in the Post-Alabasta filler arc, retains his name in the 4Kids edit. They even call him Wicked Dick!

  • During the Rainbow Mist arc, the last that the company dubbed, a shot of Zolo using a cotton pick on his sword is changed to him taking a look at Sanji's lollipop, curious as to what Sanji's always slurping on.
Luffy: Sanji's not gonna like that.
    Zolo: Then don't tell him.

  • The final episode of the dub had several moments. Way to go out with a bang, 4Kids!
    • First off, there's Zolo's battle with Leik.
Zolo: Hey Sparky! You look like you're all charged up with nowhere to go! (unsheathes his swords) Stand back while I slice your power in two!
Nami: (monotone) You can't slice electricity.
    (several scenes later)
Usopp: Doesn't he get that electricity isn't like bread? You can't slice it!

    • Then there's this bit before the Straw Hats sail off.
Rapanui: Henzo, your friends are all under arrest. They're pirates, and they're our prisoners
    Straw Hats: WHAT?!
Usopp: After all we've done for you, old geezer?! Ingrate!
Rapanui: As Naval Officers, we have a responsibility to arrest all pirates we run up against. Of course, I'd be very angry if you don't cooperate with us fully, since I lack the reinforcements to hold you here against your will! If you try to make a run for it, I'd be extremely upset! The Navy ALWAYS does this to me! They NEVER give me enough support to do what it is I need to do! Do you realize how it feels to know that if you try to escape RIGHT NOW, there's not much I can do about it? Not much, I tell you! NOT MUCH!
Straw Hats: (monotone) We get the point. Thanks.

    • The final shot of the entire dub is the Straw Hats about to be crushed by a giant falling ship. Given that this was the last episode dubbed by 4Kids before Funimation took over, this can be seen as the company passive-aggressively killing off their mistake for good.

      • Speaking of, when the Funimation dub first aired, there was a brief alteration to the script that could be taken one of two ways.
Luffy: That was a lot of fun, but I don't think we should ever go back.
Nami: What? How could you call that fun? It was a graveyard!
Luffy: Why can't a graveyard be fun? C'mon, live a little! *laughs*
Chopper: I can't believe you actually enjoyed that.
  • While not in the dub proper, 4Kids TV hosted a quiz known as "One Piece: Secret of the Seas". They would give the real answer, an answer that you'd only know is fake if you watched the show, and a blatantly obvious incorrect answer that is a reference to a different show:
"Who gave Luffy his lucky straw hat? Was it Usopp, Shanks, or Sonic?"
"What is Nami's position on the Merry Go? Is it Navigator, First Mate, or Headmistress?"note
"What martial art does Zolo practice? Is it Santoryu, Kung Fu, or Furyoku?"note
