• Tench's apprehension at the amount of personal details Holden shares with their interview subjects leads to more than a few snarky moments, such as this exchange in season one, episode eight:

  Wendy: Did Brudos behave?

  Holden: He was almost pleasant. Seems repeat visits are important.

  Tench: Did you confide in him about your cum sock?

  • Holden is nervous about interviewing Ed Kemper, so brings his sidearm. Tench is not impressed.
    Tench: He's going to take the fucking thing away from you, he's going to kill you with it, then he's going to have sex with your face.
• The season two finale has Tench, Holden, and practically the entire Atlanta PD engage in the least subtle stakeout of all time. When they finally stop and wait for their subject to exit a drive-thru, they are surprised to see him stop and walk a bagged lunch over to their car. Tench accepts the gift and eats it.

  Tench: I think we've been made.

  [Police officer on radio, faintly]: I bet you he got the $2.99 special. You can't beat that, you get two fried chicken and fries.

• There is a certain Black Comedy to the interviews of William Hance and William Pierce, two of the more disorganized and less smart killers. Hance concoted an elaborate story about a vigilante group that only drew more attention to him especially since he sent the letter on army letterhead, but included a message to the police not to look into that. Pierce meanwhile is a Smug Snake Malaproper, and after denying murdering any women despite very strong evidence against him, when asked about the men he's accused of murdering, he very casually goes "Oh yeah. I did those".
