Funny / Issei: The Gaming Gear

Go To

  • Issei makes his feelings clear about how many different Video Game rip-offs the Ratmen and Purifiers make as he is dealing with them.
  • As the ORC are going through the dungeon that Issei cleared, Kiba notices that how the sword user's attacks got better as they went through the groups of Ratmen.
Akeno: Who could change from unskilled to marginally skilled between groups?
    Koneko: A Robot?
  • Rias and company end up spotting a disguised Issei shortly after he finished killing Farsqueaker, the Grandpackmaster. Issei ends up giving them the slip by using the control center of the arena to trap them in and send a wave of Ratmen for them to deal with.
  • How does Issei enter the "Domain of the Warp Rat" dungeon after he accepts entering it? By being dropped down a hole.
Issei: [Thinking as He's Falling] The universe is laughing at me!
  • Issei hears something coming his way and ducks behind a pillar before a giant wheel filled with ratmen rolls past.
Issei: [In Disbelief] Did I just barely avoid getting run over by the world's biggest hamster wheel?
  • The air in the "Primordial Lair of the Ratmen" dungeon is so poisonous that Issei is constantly training Poison Resistance. By the time Issei is finished with the dungeon, it is at level 12 and he is annoyed by the messages.
  • Issei is at a complete loss when he ends up getting some Rare Candy as an item drop.
  • To show what the Gamer Gear can do, Issei show the ORC the Observe screens, with Sona becoming really embarrassed when shown that one of her flaws is "Victim of a Sis-con Older Sister".
  • A group of Purifiers show up to kidnap Asia and ask Issei to leave.
Issei: Yeah, how about no? Like I'm going to let a bunch of suspicious old men in cosplay take a girl away and to do who knows what to her!
    Purifier 1: Suspicious?!
    Purifier 2: Old?!
    Purifier 3: Cosplay?!
  • Sirzechs and Serafall have a group of devils ready to help their little sisters if they are ever in trouble. It's officially named "Ria-tan and So-tan Rapid Rescue Squad", much to Rias' and Sona's chagrin.
  • The day after a disguised Issei rescues the prisoners from the Purifier base, the girls who go to his school ambush him seeking answers, and Murayama throttles him so heavily that Kiryu has to tell her that, unless she plans on kissing the truth out of him, she better let him go because he's turning blue, prompting the Kendoka to let him go in embarrassment.
  • After an enemy in the dungeon he made ends up dropping a health potion that the Stray Exorcists end up using, Issei wonders why the enemies he made to guard the dungeon have item drops. It turns out that it was an option that the Gamer's Gear did by default, which Issei promptly turns off.
  • When the Stray Exorcists that entered Issei's dungeon die, he drops the bodies outside, right in front of the Fallen, with a note saying "NEXT".
  • When Raynare voices the suspicion that Issei's base could belong to a Longinus user, Kalawarner, who has been established as a bimbo, gives a well-thought-out explanation as to why that isn't likely, prompting the rest of the group to stare at her in shock. After she gives the defense that keeping track of where the god-killing Sacred Gears are is just common sense, Raynare decides to ignore it on the grounds that Kalawarner doing something intelligent might cause a Reality-Breaking Paradox. The fact that Kalawarner is Entertainingly Wrong just makes it funnier, as well as her describing the Boosted Gear users as "power idiots".
Kalawarner: Impossible. [Divine Dividing], [Absolute Demise] and [Canis Lykaon] are allied with the Grigori. [True Longinus], [Annihilation Maker] and [Dimension Lost] are rumored to belong some human mercenary group calling itself the Hero Faction, [Zenith Tempest] is under the control of the Church, [Regulus Nemea] has been spotted in the Devil side of the Underworld, [Sephiroth Graal] is under the control of the Tepes Faction of Vampires, [Incinerate Anthem] is owned by Hexennacht, and [Innovate Clear] and [Telos Karma] are under the control of Cross Times Kiss. The only one not active right now is the [Boosted Gear], and all of them tend to be power idiots, not mages.
  • When Kiryū implies she'd love to share Murayama with Issei as part of the latter's harem, Kiyome scolds her - it's better if she establishes herself as Issei's legal wife before bringing in the mistresses, after all.
  • As the Fallen are going through Issei's dungeon, Dohnaseek gets this message from the Gamer Gear:
    [Attention!]
The Dungeon Master has awarded you with a new title!
[Chūnibyō Fallen]: A title issued to a Fallen Angel acting in a thoroughly embarrassing and peculiar fashion. Grants a 5% chance to confuse enemies whenever you act out in this manner.
  • The Fallen end up taking fifteen minutes to kill a slime with incredibly strong regeneration. While the female Fallen are complaining about how perverted the slime was, Dohnaseek is on the floor recovering from a hit to a sensitive area.
'Fucking men and their junk.' Raynare thought with a roll of her eyes. She knew that getting 'cunt-punted' wasn't any less an agonizing experience for a woman and she was rather grateful it wasn't her on the receiving end of the slime's final 'attack,' thank you very much, but seriously, why did men have to make such a big deal of it whenever their wedding tackle took a hit?
  • Mittelt was hit in the ass by the slime, with the narration noting that her face is rather red. Kalawarner later calls her a masochist and accuses her of enjoying said spanking, leaving her red-faced and sputtering out denials.
  • Issei overhears that Raynare plans on leaving to get back-up so they can deal with the dungeon, which he doesn't want happening when he sees a message pop up:
Narration: Fortunately, a window popped up that made an evil smirk blossom across his face that any Devil or Fallen Angel would be proud of as he pressed it.
[Cue the exit to the previous floor being sealed]
Raynare: Oh, for fuck's sake, the stupid arena barriers from God of War? Really?!
    • The fact that Raynare has played God of War enough to recognize the barriers is chuckle-worthy, too.
  • After the Fallen have proven that the barrier won't break from their attacks and that teleporting is likely out of the question:
Mittelt: Hey Ray, think this guy will let us go if we give him Kalawarner as a sex toy?
Kalawarner: As if I'd fucking deign to let a human touch me like that!
Raynare: Nah, he probably has standards.
Kalawarner: AND WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?!
Raynare: But, ignoring Kalawarner's lack of sex appeal to all but the hard up and desperate-
Kalawarner: Are you trying to pick a fight with me, bitch?!
Raynare: [Ignoring Kalawarner] -we need to think about our next move.
  • After the Fallen refuse to surrender, they get a major Oh, Crap! moment when Issei points out that the Boss of each floor has been a larger and more powerful version of the main enemy of said floor, and one Eternal Mud Golem already gave them major trouble. Mittelt then tells Raynare that if they somehow get out of this mess alive, she's never working on the same continent as the other two of their group again, which Raynare can't really fault given the situation.
  • Issei runs into three Stray Exorcists and is ready for a tough fight, only to be surprised when he knocks all three of them out in one shot.
  • When looking for the hidden area of the church, Issei somehow misses a partially open trapdoor. After he gets over his embarrassment once he realizes that, he wonders why they'd be stupid enough to leave it open like that.
  • Issei destroys the Sacred Gear Extractor he finds in the Church Raynare and the other Fallen Angels were using and receives a title for doing it that makes him do a Double Take.
Title Earned: Relic Smasher! You have destroyed a priceless example of ancient magical history and technology! Shame on you… on the other hand, that thing really needed to be smashed.
  • When fighting with Freed, Issei's banter drives the insane former exorcist up the wall, and it's hilarious.
  • After Freed runs off, Issei takes all of the knocked out Stray Exorcists and teleports them to the Grigori's headquarters, cut to Azazel wondering why a bunch of knocked out and tied up Stray Exorcists are at the doorstep of their headquarters.
  • Issei cleans out the rooms of the Fallen at the church after chasing off Freed in order to make sure that the Grigori have no excuse to come back, but the deceased Dohnaseek's room is so messy that he just nopes out.
