Fridge / No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!

Fridge Brilliance

  • In chapter 169, Tomoki is clearly pissed off by Sayaka's attitude but the last straw ends up being when she implies that he gets sexually aroused while playing football, besides the fact that this is a very idiotic comment, one early chapter showed that the thing that helped Tomoki play was that it helped him to release his frustrations related to his relationship with Tomoko. So the idea that he will get sexually aroused with Football is a major Berserk Button because he relates playing Football with his sister.
  • A lot of the story choices in A Youth Like This make more sense if you keep in mind Tomoko is adding in-universe Reality Subtext.
    • Asuka's character is a very blatant Author Avatar of Tomoko herself. So it makes sense she's the President of a small club with four members that don't do anything of value besides having a good time in high school, given this was one of Tomoko's failed goals back in Chapter 26.
    • The student council are the villains given they were the ones who rejected the idea in the first place.
    • Nemoto's character is looked down by the rest of the members of the club for her inappropriate noises for her audition. This is probably what Nemoto thought would have happened in the first two years if her friends found out she wanted to become a voice actress.
    • Yuri's character is an Affectionate Parody of Mako, so she's an Exaggerated depiction of an extrovert that ends up having a Relationship Upgrade with Yoshida.
    • One of Ucchi's characters refuses to help because she thinks the President has antisocial vibes and lacks charisma, which is probably what Tomoko believes is Ucchi's opinion of her.
    • Ucchi is the only actress to have more than one role, because from Tomoko's point of view she's the definiton of The Generic Girl.
    • Yuri's character falls in love with Yoshida's character off-screen without explanation. It's likely related to Tomoko's belief that Mako is a lesbian, and has of late gotten quite attached and fiercely protective of Yoshida. It might also be related to Yoshida being the one who killed Hina's character, whom Yuri chafes against in the real world.
    • Asuka's character also ends up repeating her second year for lack of attendance, which was another one of Tomoko's failed strategies to get popular before she backed off after realizing how much Tomoki hated the idea of sharing a class with her.

Fridge Horror

  • Tomoko has a thing for abusive yandere men. Now it's just fantasies and video games, but when she's older...
    • Considering how her mother is known to slap her on some occasions (generally deserved), she is definitely not unfamiliar with the idea of a beloved family member hitting her...
    • Additionally, just how far might she go in order to get laid? Venturing into the red-light district scared her, but again, when she's older...
    • Alternatively, she could be an abusive yandere herself, if she's desperate enough.
  • Ucchi as well, she ended up falling in love with a girl who (to her knowledge) peeped on her in the shower, stole her panties, watched her while she slept, stalked her relentlessly, and makes a pass at just about every attractive girl she encounters. Tomoko is a Chivalrous Pervert if there ever was one so is not a big deal but she could have easily have fallen in love with someone dangerous.

Fridge Logic

  • Some of them could be chalked up as common surnames, but how does Lottes super fan Komiyama not notice that a lot of people around her (including herself) share a surname with Lottes players?
