The Row is a 2018 Canadian-American slasher-esque mystery thriller film written by Sarah Scougal and directed by Matty Beckerman.

Riley Cole and her best friend, Becks Power join a sorority house known as Phi Lambda, unaware that the place's dark history has attracted a Serial Killer.

This film contains examples of:

  • Big Bad: Miller is the killer.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: During his Motive Rant:
Miller: FOR WHAT?! FOR A FUCKING SORORITY?! HUH? I FUCKING FOUND OUT WHAT THEY MADE HER DO! THE FUCKING DOLLHOUSE!? (...) I'm gonna show you a real motherfucking doll house. (...) But, I am going to have way, way, way more fucking fun.
  • Cool Mask: The killer dons a doll-like mask of a woman with long red hair during his murders.
  • Creepy Souvenir: After murdering his victims, the killer removes a part of their body and replaces it with a plastic one from a mannequin. Later, the cops find the missing pieces all sewn together ala Pieces.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a child, the killer lost his parents in a car accident and years later saw his only sister set herself on fire after thinking she had been raped during a hazing ritual at Phi Lambda. The woman leading the ritual was Riley's mom, who he later burned alive and made it look like a suicide.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While the current hazing is difficult, it's made clear that all relevant parties regret the events that led to one girl thinking she had actually been raped.
  • Freudian Excuse: Between losing his parents to a car accident and witnessing his sister set herself on fire, is it any wonder that Miller turned out so crazy and pissed at Phi Lambda.
  • Initiation Ceremony: Riley, Becks, and the rest of the pledges are forced to strip down to their underwear and play a game of hide and seek, with the threat of being injected with Botox if caught.
  • Kick the Dog: The killer carjacks a man, then shoots him in the head.
  • Killed Offscreen: Laura and Ana's roommate, though later we do get to see their bodies.
  • Misplaced Retribution: The killer is going to kill Riley because he blames her mother for the death of his sister and considers Riley equally culpable, when he already killed Riley's mother and all Riley has done is join a sorority.
  • Peek-a-Boo Corpse: While hiding under a bed, Riley looks over to find Isabell.
  • Rejected Apology: "No. No. I'm afraid we're way past the point of apologies."
  • The Reveal: Not only is Miller the killer of the sorority girls, but he's also the one who set Riley's mom on fire prior to the film's events.
  • Sadist: "But, I am going to have way, way, way more fucking fun."
  • Shower Scene: Ana is interrupted and stabbed to death in the shower.
  • Sinister Sorority Sisters: Downplayed in that they do regret it (and, while their other initiations are shown to be humiliating, such as stripping down to their underwear), Phi Lambda's old prank involved letting a girl think she had been raped. This caused her suicide and her brother comes to seek revenge, burning Riley's mom alive and killing multiple pledges to punish them.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Riley joining the sorority is why the killer begins their spree, due to being reminded of the past. Unfortunately for her, she had no way of knowing of what her mom had done.
