Tropes for the film:

  • Bavarian Fire Drill: The titular character manages to successfully become part of an advertising agency by going in with a clipboard, looking like he knew what he was doing and saying he was with "efficiency", and everyone perfectly buys it.
  • Character Title: The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer.
  • Clipboard of Authority: Michael managed to successfully become part of an advertising agency by going in with a clipboard, looking like he knew what he was doing and saying he was with "efficiency", and everyone buys it.
  • Tagline: "Tomorrow's Men: They take the "P" out of Polls and Politics".
  • Two Rights Make a Wrong: Just as the eponymous Rimmer is about to stage a popular coup one of the people he's pissed off attempts to shoot him from a high window while another is preparing to throw a bomb. Unfortunately the gunman falls out of the window onto the bomber, and the bomb goes off next to them.
