Trust me, this is like no other small town you've ever been to.
Sheriff Howard

Rise of the Scarecrows is a Direct to Video Horror Movie by Geno McGahee and Jeremy Weiskotten.

Officer Brown (Anthony Brown) is a big city cop who recently decided to move to the small town of Adams, Massachusetts to be a cop there. While this is happening, three guys have come to the town as a stop on their planned road trip to help their friend get over a recent break-up.

While they're all there, they soon make the discovery that the town is harboring a secret out in the woods. Seems there's a trio of scarecrows there offing everyone they come across... and the sheriff (Cedric Howard) has been sending people to them... and their dooms.

The film was released on May 5th, 2009.

Rise Of The Scarecrows contains examples of:

  • Back from the Dead: The scarecrows are this, after Sheriff Howard killed them in the woods years ago.
  • Domestic Abuse: Dicky is shown at one point force-feeding his wife the wet powder she was using to make dinner.
  • Downer Ending: The scarecrows kill pretty much every major character in the movie.
  • Fat Bastard: Carlos, as well as the kid who flips off Pete.
  • Flashback: While Mike is telling Jim, Carlos, and Bill about the town's secret, we're treated to a flashback to eight years prior of Sheriff Howard killing a bunch of people, who then rise out of the ground.
  • Flipping the Bird: Some fat kid flips Pete the double bird in Pete's first scene.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Sheriff Howard is killed by the very scarecrows he killed years ago, and has been providing with victims for years.
  • Jerkass: Carlos is established as one early on. His biggest display of Jerkassery has to be towards Rufus, whos vegetables he tips over because he doesn't like their prices. Then he claim to go to apologize, only to throw a tomato at the poor guy.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Sheriff Howard has been stranding people in town for years to send them into the woods so the scarecrows can kill them. In the end, those very scarecrows are his own killers.
  • Sackhead Slasher: The three scarecrows have sacks on their heads.
  • Scary Scarecrows: There's three out in the woods killing whoever they get.
  • Shout-Out: Rufus tells his friends to take off Carlos' pants because he's going to "go Deliverance on his ass". Thankfully, he wasn't serious.
  • Small-Town Tyrant: Sheriff Howard, who's been stranding people in Adams overnight so the scarecrows can have a steady stream of victims.
