"Killing people is simple. "Compared to raising children"
Gil Bok-soon
Kill Boksoon (Korean: 길복순) is a 2023 South Korean crime action film directed and written by Byun Sung-hyun, starring Jeon Do-yeon, Sol Kyung-gu, Kim Si-a, Esom, and Koo Kyo-hwan. It premiered on Netflix on March 31, 2023.

Gil Bok-Soon is an extraordinary woman who manages to raise her child as a single mother and also becomes one of the most feared assassins in the world. Her 100% success rate in contract killings is unprecedented, and she owes it all to the training he received from Cha Min-Kyu, who runs MK Ent, the organization she works for. Despite the dangerous and often volatile nature of his profession, Bok-Soon has always maintained a strong sense of professionalism and respect for his employer. Cha Min-Kyu has always treated her with the same level of respect, but Bok-Soon knows that his loyalty can be tested at any time. Just before Bok-Soon renews his contract with MK Ent, she finds herself in a life-or-death situation.

Examples:

  • The Ace: Bok-soon. She has a 100% success rate and is one of the few killers rated "A" by her company. She is also the rich single mother of young Jae-young, who studies at a prestigious private school.
  • Abusive Parent: Bok-soon's father was using violence against her. In a flashback scene, he beat Boksoon badly for smoking and forced her to eat the cigarettes.
  • Action Mom: Bok-soon, who is both an expert hitman and a single mother
    • Action Girl: Young-ji. Unfortunately, this doesn't save her from being killed by Min-kyu
  • Establishing Character Moment: The movie begins with an extremely calm and smiling Bok-soon waking up a yakuza named 'Oda Shinichiro' by throwing a knife at him. When Oda asks Bok-soon why she didn't kill him right away, Bok-soon tells an anecdote she had while watching the news with her daughter Jae-young. The scene returns to the past. Bok-soon and Jae-young talk about a politician's son getting into college thanks to his father. While Bok-soon argues that it's understandable what the politician did because he wanted his son to go to a good school, Jae-young asks him if he would say the same thing if he were the winner, and says that he should teach his daughter that be fair. Bok-soon obtains Oda's consent and gives him a robe and a sword, intending to compete fairly.Boksoon attacks Oda with the ax he bought from the supermarket and then asks for permission to change her weapon. She goes to the car, pulls out her gun and shoots Oda. Korean "You fucking bitch...!" To the swearing Oda, Bok-soon says, "I'm sorry, but it's time to close the supermarket," and kills him.
  • Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Despite her job, Bok-soon tries to give Jae-young as peaceful and normal a life as possible. She is horrified to learn that Jae-young stabbed a male student at school. And she starts to investigate the reason behind this.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Gil Bok-soon turns from a high school girl who was subjected to violence by her father in her past to an "A" grade successful hitman known as Kill Book-soon.
  • Gayngst: Jae-young is a lesbian and hides it. It takes a turn for the worse when, in a fit of rage, she stabs with scissors a male student who had brutally threatened to date her for a month, taking advantage of her relationship with her lover Sora.
  • Good Parents: This is what Bok-soon is trying to do to Jae-young. She tries to understand her, and when she attacks a male student with scissors, she questions why she does this instead of being directly angry at her. She is sure that her daughter would not do this for no reason and that she really does not want to kill that child (which is true).
  • Open-Minded Parent: When Bok-soon finds out that Jae-young is a lesbian, she doesn't show the slightest disgust; the only thing she regrets is that she doesn't know her daughter well enough to realize this.
  • Parents as People: Bok-soon tries to take care of Jae-young as much as possible, but due to the problems of her secret job, she can only do this to a certain extent.
  • Professional Killer: Mk. Ent. an organization that includes them and Bok-soon is one of them
  • Protagonist Title
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Min-kyu's in "Mk. Ent." one of the rules he set is not to kill minors. It's also the reason why he didn't kill Bok-soon when they first met
