Fanfic Recs / Casper

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying (and becoming a ghost) for here.

These are recommendations made by tropers for Casper fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. After a few samples, you will be able to note the interests of the tropers recommending them, and judge whether you might be also interested in a certain 'fic.

Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here. Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexual or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Reviews of fics are encouraged, but if you choose to write one, please make it substantive, and give specific details about what you liked / disliked in the fic. If you want to give a fic a thumbs-up without writing a full review, you can add your troper handle to the Recommendations Line.

General Fics

Beyond Earth by ForeverFinally

  • Recommended by: Tiggerific
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Therapy and ghosts don't really mix, but Dr Harvey's going to give it his best shot, dragging a reluctant Kat, Trio and Casper along with him.
  • Comments: Well written and keeps everyone in character. A couple of typos here and there, but aren't noticable. Possibly a Dead Fic, although the author has warned about very slow updates. Worth it, though.

Casper: After the Credits Roll by NeitherSparky

  • Recommended by Bookwormgal
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A short scene that should have followed the credits of the movie.
  • Comments: Handles a certain issue that was ignored at the end of the film...

Fireworks by sonkayura

  • Recommended by: Tiggerific
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: After the tragic death of her twin sister and brother-in-law, New York magazine editor Mariah Moyers inherits more then she can handle. With a five-year-old niece to raise and a change of career as a result, is relocation really the best option?
  • Comments: Very well written with very diverse and interesting characters. Heavily relying on original characters currently, so give the fic a miss if you don't like that kind of thing. Also long winded and so far doesn't have any interactions with the canon characters (not to mention that it hasn't been updated in a while) but the set-up is worth a read.

Sucked Up by Berry's Ambitions (Co-written with 'stretch the faunlet')

  • Recommended by: Tiggerific
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In which Stretch gets stuck, Kat's sadistic streak surfaces, and inappropriate remarks are thrown around like baseballs. Pure silliness. Warning for inappropriate and sexual remarks, although it's nothing graphic.
  • Comments: You'll be wetting your pants laughing reading this one. XD

Plaits by Mia Vaan

  • Recommended by: Tiggerific
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Stretch had to wonder how his afterlife ended up this way...
  • Comments: A cute little fic where Stretch is surprisingly in character despite the circumstances. Bit of an OC warning, but the author has a knack for writing them.

The Early Encounter by Mia Vaan

  • Recommended by: Tiggerific
  • Vanished from the internet. Please post a link if found.
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Kat investigates the Ghostly Trio's apparent want to keep her out of trouble, she discovers the truth behind her mother's death...and how it connects with her crazy new life.
  • Comments: This short story gives us a pretty believable (and surprisingly tragic) backstory on how Amelia (Kat's mother) died and how the Trio first met her.

Memories Behind Us by Mia Vaan

  • Recommended by: Tiggerific
  • Vanished from the internet. Please post a link if found.
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Even though we leave our pasts behind us, the memories still remain, no matter how painful they are.
  • Comments: More backstory goodness, this time focused on the McFadden family. Very nicely done.

You With Me by Humanities_Handbag and Invader_Sam

  • Recommended by: Bookworm Gal
  • Status: On-going
  • Summary: "Before the arrival of the Harvey’s, Casper had been mostly content with the lack of memories. The ever present knowledge that he’d had a life before this, but it mattered little beyond its existence. He was a ghost. His name was Casper. He lived with his Uncles in Whipstaff. He spent his days wandering the halls when he wasn’t working tirelessly for them or trying his hardest to stay out of their way. Wash. Rinse Repeat. But memories were the same as chocolate. You could live your life without it happily. Until someone gave you a taste. Cross over, the memory of his father calls. If you just cross over, you'll remember. Me. You. Everything. He extended a hand. You with me? And without looking back (at Whipstaff, at Friendship, at the Uncle's who wouldn't care), Casper followed." Or: A young girl digs up memories. A friendly ghost falls away to follow them. And three Uncles remember what they may have lost after it's already gone. Now has a Trope Page.
