Go To

Witch of Roses is a crossover between RWBY and High School D×D, wherin Ruby is reborn in the latter world as a quarter Devil after a Heroic Sacrifice to stop Salem.

  • Achievements in Ignorance: When recreating Crescent Rose on Earth, Ruby tried to imbue it with the power of her Silver Eyes, and inadvertently created a powerful weapon against multiple non-human species.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Played with Ruby; given her new nature as 1/4 devil, her natural sin being the Pride, her distrust of immortals and being used to working with people who followed her orders or were more experienced, it is of little surprise that when she lectures the heiresses, she doesn't hold back. At all. She is still mostly a kind person.
  • Caught Monologuing: Ruby pretends not believe Kokabiel about the fact that God Is Dead, or at least plays up her skepticism while asking for proof, so that she can disable his earthbreaker spell while he's distracted.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Ruby has some impressive preparations in store. Most notably she, at least partially due to remembering Cinder and her magic-draining Grimm arm, has created countermeasures for powers like Divine Dividing, which allows Pyrrha, while channeling her ancestor Achilles, to knock out Vali when he shows up looking for Kokabiel while Ruby is fighting the Fallen.
  • Faking the Dead: When her new mother dies in a car crash, Ruby uses her magic to make it seem as if she'd died with her.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Ruby's death on Remnant is the result of her using the Relic of Destruction combined with her other powers in order to take out Salem for a couple of decades so that they could crack space travel enough to send her into the sun.
  • Hybrid Power: Ruby, being only a quarter Devil, is far more resistant to Holy effects than pure devils, and can combine her human magical ability with her inherent Devil power.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: During Kokabiel's assault on the school, Ruby grabs Rias and Sona to get them away and deny the Fallen the chance of killing them to restart the War. When he pursues, Ruby tricks him into a contract to fight her for the two Devils, and when he tries to attack them or flee it causes him great pain.
  • Red Baron: The story's title is an In-Universe as a name Kokabiel gives her as he lays dying from their fight,
  • Ship Sinking: The author makes it preemptively clear that Ruby x Issei is not going to happen.
  • Token Human: The reborn Pyrrha is the only member of Kuoh's Student Council not in Sona's Peerage.
  • Uneven Hybrid: In her new body on Earth, Ruby is 75% human, 25% Devil.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Ruby has a disdain towards the idea of extending her lifespan any further, in part because she doesn't want to become like Ozpin or Salem.
