The Universal Spookiness of Gravity Falls
is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover fanfiction story, with three primary franchises and a number of minor ones.
Dipper and Mabel Pines have returned to Gravity Falls for another summer full of supernatural adventures, but there are some new additions to the Mystery Shack staff, one Steven Universe and one Danny Fenton. And of course, as if Gravity Falls wasn't already enough of a literal Weirdness Magnet, they each bring their own brands of weirdness with them to the town. Well, the twins certainly didn't want their second summer in Gravity Falls to be boring...
- Fusion Fic: In this story the stories of Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, and Danny Phantom all take place in the same world, albeit with the Grand Finale of the latter not happening. There's others, but they aren't as prominent.
- Gender Flip: "Just a Normal Chapter" is an April Fool's Day joke, taking place in a gender-swapped universe from the main story.
- Happily Adopted: In this story Dani has been adopted by the Fentons.
- Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The primary franchises in the story are Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, and Danny Phantom, but there are others that share the universe but mainly appear as cameos and references, like Ghostbusters, Kim Possible, and The Powerpuff Girls.
- Mythology Gag:
- When Vlad shows up, it's noted more than once that he looks like a vampire. According to the chapter notes, this is a reference to how he was a vampire in the original concept.
- Similarly, a combination of Steven's magic spit and Danny's ghostly energy gets infused into the plants in Steven's garden. One of the plants is a literal ghost pepper named Spooky, which takes on owl traits, in a reference to the original idea that Danny would have an owl.
- One-Steve Limit: Both Danny and Dani are major characters in this story, so more than once a character gets a little confused on which one someone is referring to.
- Villain Team-Up:
- Vlad, Skulker, and Desiree team up to get Revenge on Danny during the Summerween chapters.
- Later, Vortex and Undergrowth join forces in order to get back and Danny and seize power for themselves.
- Villain with Good Publicity: Mentally lampshaded by Steven when he and Danny visit Amity to get more Fenton Thermoses from Jack and Maddie.
