Go To

"The Throne of Heroes" by Kurusan is a crossover fanfic that has Jaune Arc, in preparation to go to Beacon, summon something with the letters written by his great, great grandfather. Of course Jaune knows that magic doesn't exist, but he's only got one month to Beacon and he needs all the help he can get. Of course, Jaune being Jaune, he fudges up the summoning a little...

...and now finds that a strange man named "Archer" is not only his servant, but also the two are now sharing a body. Furthermore, Archer reveals to Jaune that he is now in a murder war with six other masters for a grail that grants wishes. On the plus side, magecraft's a thing and if things get too hairy, Jaune can just let Archer take over, so it should be all good right?

Thus begins Jaune's participation of the Holy Grail War of Remnant.

The Throne of Heroes provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Caster proves to be this, compared to his original appearance in Fate Grand Order. While in FGO, Babbage had to be brainwashed and forced to fight the protagonist, the Caster of Cinder used faunus as living batteries and drained Jaune of his prana without remorse.
  • Alternate Universe: In this continuity, Jaune's great, great grandfather was Leon Arc, who was a magus.
  • Anger Born of Worry: When Bianca realizes her little brother Jaune was being chased by a Grimm, she punishes Jaune with chores for the rest of the week.
    • Jaune to Pyrrha, since she became a master despite warning her about the grail death match he was in.
  • Badass Creed: Archer's noble phantasm. Archer ends up using it for the rematch with Caster during the Breach of Vale in order to minimize casualties and eliminate Caster alongside the Grimm.
    • Jaune also has one when activating his mystic code, Flamen Volcanalis.
For it is by walking in the wake of giants, that we achieve immortality. Through this, we become a force, to be reckoned by all.
    • Averted with Nora when she uses Jaune's fortified dust in battle.
      Something something giants!
  • Badass Teacher: Subverted. Archer is a Badass Servant, but not a very good teacher. Early in Jaune's training, Jaune is stuck trying to figure out how to gauge his prana levels, only for Archer to realize he forgot to teach Jaune structural analysis.
  • Big "NO!": When Qrow questions Berserker on what a Prana transfer, and that if Jaune should perform it;
"No!" Amber screeched in horror before mastering herself.
  • Black Sheep: In a family of Huntsmans and Huntsmans in training, Jaune is the weakest of them all, and actively barred from training to be a huntsman. To the point that his 12-year-old sister Jasmine can beat him in a fight, although that may be due to the fact said sister is a childhood prodigy.
  • Crapsaccharine World: Archer's observation of Remnant, compared to Earth. He notes that despite the state of the world being reduced to settlements and humanity unable to grow, Archer notes that the citizens force themselves to be happy, as to not attract Grimm.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Archer. Eventually Jaune too.
  • Did You Just Have Sex?: Weiss, after her training session with Jaune. While it was not that, her blissful attitude raises some eyebrows among her team.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Bianca gives her brother Jaune a gentle smile as she asks where he's been. After taking a closer look and realizing he was being chased by a Grimm, she ends up manhandling him a bit while giving the same smile.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Jaune's desire to become a huntsman stems from the fact that his family overly smothering. The only member of Jaune's family member exempt from this attitude is Jasmine, and even then it's because she noticed his souring relationship with his older sisters.
  • Enemy Mine: Jaune and Assassin
  • Epic Fail: While trying to learn how to use Prana, Jaune sends it to his eyes. It's not blinding, but very painful.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Adam Taurus ends up being used as a undead limbless battery.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: As Jaune passes out from the summoning ritual, he realizes a bit too late what line he got wrong...
Wait wasn't it "Your body shall serve under me" and not "My body shall serve"?
  • Gilded Cage: Jaune's family insists on him remaining home in the mansion. This not only strains Jaune's relationship with his family, but also ends up fueling Jaune's foray into magecraft.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Faced with a bunch of enemy dolls that are able to bypass aura, Jaune is forced to release the elemental in Crocea Mors to clear out the area.
  • Idiot Ball: During the Foreverfall incident, Jaune runs back deeper in the cave despite having a broken leg and low on prana. Archer has to use his skill Independent Action to make sure Jaune doesn't die to Caster's steam.
  • Killed Off for Real: On the way to Vale, Archer kills Adam Taurus to prevent him from blowing up the train.
    • In the Breach of Vale, Archer kills Caster and by proxy, Adam Taurus again.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Jaune's older sisters tend to go a bit overboard for his protection, which explains why Jaune is a bit awkward in dealing with other students.
  • Locked into Strangeness: Archer explains that his dark skin and white hair are a result of him overusing his circuits. After the Breach, Jaune gains splotches of dark skin and a white lock of hair due to strain from temporarily resurrecting the Saber from Archer's memories.
  • Love Triangle: Between Pyrrha and Weiss for Jaune. While like canon Pyrrha falls in love with Jaune who treats him like a normal girl, Weiss also ends up getting closer to Jaune after Jaune helps teaching Weiss how to use her semblance correctly.
  • Meaningful Name: The name of Jaune's sword is Crocea Mors, which means Yellow Death. Jaune laments the bad guy name. Turns out the sword contains an elemental that really hates Grimm and seeks to eradicate all of them.
    • Flamen Volcanalis is the title of the priest who serves the cult of Vulcan. After letting the elemental out of Crocea Mors, Jaune creates a new mystic code that allows him to forge swords from Dust.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Jaune to Weiss, with both having a mixture of awe and resentment towards their families, something that she notes on her visit to Jaune's household.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Jaune accidentally calls Ms. Goodwitch "The sexy teacher" to her face. He ends up getting tossed through the auditorium for his troubles.
    • Jaune also internally describes Winter as "Weiss with a rack" only for him to realize he had said the last part out loud to her face. In Jaune's defense it was just after he had recovered from the Breach of Vale.
  • The Reveal: There were multiple Holy Grail Wars that took place in Remnant, and Salem, Ozpin, and Jaune's mother were/are participants of an ongoing war.
  • Sharing a Body: How Jaune and Archer's partnership works. While Jaune is in control, Archer is relegated to a ghost that only Jaune can hear and see. When Jaune lets Archer take over his body, Jaune takes a backseat as Archer is free to use his skills as a servant to fight. There's also a version that's activated by Archer's independent action skill, where Jaune instead is mentally locked into a tiny box while Archer takes full control.
  • Sneeze Cut: After getting squeezed in a death hug by Penny, Jaune cautions himself to not date anyone who could kick his ass. Cue Pyrrha and Weiss sneezing simultaneously.
  • Split-Personality Merge: One of the servants undergoes this, gaining their host's memories while retaining their personality. This ends up being a cause of angst for their master, since they know that the servant is not the host, but can't help themselves catching glimpses of the host's former self.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Enforced onto Jaune by Archer, when Jaune challenges his sister Bianca to a duel so he can train to be a Huntsman. It ends up with Jaune getting his ribs crushed in, but at least Jaune gets his Aura unlocked.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: During the sap gathering trip in Fovever Fall, Jaune gets captured by Caster, making Jaune realize he's relying too much on Archer's abilities to bail him out.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Prana is not Aura, with Jaune learning that Prana comes from magic circuits. Eventually Jaune figures out how to transform Aura to Prana.
