Go To

The Miraculous Adventures of Dan Kuso is a crossover between Bakugan Battle Brawlers and Miraculous Ladybug. It is the finale of The Phantom Data Saga that began with The Laws of Nature and continued in Sailor Moon: Gundalian Invaders.

Can be read here. Also cross-posted on fanfiction.net.

In 2021, an updated version was uploaded, that is more in line with the author’s current style.

The Miraculous Adventures of Dan Kuso contains examples of:

  • Apocalypse How: Plana’s species carried multiple of these before their extinction.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Aside from the Bakugan, Gigantitan briefly appears.
  • Back from the Dead: Several characters. In particular Naga’s servants, who are not killed again later on.
  • Big Bad: Ultimately Plana.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Prof. Galloway and Hawk Moth.
  • Body Horror: Galloway’s 3 Bakugan have undergone an involuntary Fusion Dance as a result of the previous story. They eventually split apart, absorbing each others’ Abilities in the process.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Galloway does this to Ace, Ren, Rafe, Paige, Linus, the Castle Knights and several Bakugan that used to belong to Dan, Marucho and Shun.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Galloway disposes of Gabriel non-lethally when he no longer has a use for him.
  • Deconstruction: Dan’s decision to leave everyone behind unannounced is not portrayed in anyway as the right decision. It leads to his friends getting targeted by Hawk Moth (with prompting from Galloway).
    • During the final battle, Adaptrix gives Ladybug and Cat Noir a Breaking Speech about how many of the people they stop are not actually malicious, with the two having accomplished nothing in their tenure as heroes.
  • Designated Girl Fight:
    • The only one of the akumatised Brawlers Ladybug battles is Runo/Lightwave.
    • Both of Mira’s major battles are against Mylene.
  • Disney Death: All the delegates, except Nurzak.
    • Splight
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Evillustrator is defeated when Dan asks how he drew a cage around Chan to trap her… realising too late that he can’t draw two of the six required sides.
  • Foreshadowing: You can tell that at least Baron and Khomba are still alive when Galloway calls upon their Bakugan during his battle with Dan.
  • Good All Along: Lena and Mason are The Mole for Spectra and Ren.
  • Grand Finale: To both the original Bakugan anime and the Phantom Data Saga.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Hydron does this to stop Mylene.
    • Splight distracts Adaptrix long enough for Dan to figure out a counter strategy.
  • Joke Character: Running Man, who doesn’t even warrant a Lucky Charm for Ladybug to take him down.
  • Killed Off for Real: Several characters.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: The “Bakuma” consist of the body of butterflies, the DNA of Bakugan, the magical energy of Akumas and the mutagenic properties of Daimons.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Deathfury is the one Akumatised villain who does not possess a vendetta or other target dragging him down. Thus, he is able to focus solely on collecting the Miraculous, with his large size giving him an edge.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever went down with Akuma!Mendeliev that ended in a trip to America.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Mira and Hydron defeating Ace.
  • Put on a Bus to Hell: Joe and Captain Elright are captured by Galloway and not freed until near the end of the story.
  • Running Gag: Whenever Gundalia’s wasteland is brought up in narration, it mentions that it merely qualifies as the Closest Thing We Got to a wasteland on a planet where everyone lives underground.
  • Split-Personality Takeover: Masquerade does this when Alice is Brainwashed and Crazy at the hands of Befana.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Crossover: Justified. Galloway disposes of Ladybug’s cast when he has everything he needs, only keeping the heroes because they have been turned over to his side. When they are released, their powers are depleted until the final battle.
  • Take That!: Subtle example. Around the brief time the page for Miraculous Ladybug on This Very Wiki states that Adrienette may not be right, the ship got dropped from the relationships list.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Dan receives a rather angry response from Chan when he acts incredibly blasé about Joe being kidnapped.

Tropes exclusive to the remaster.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Scenes from the original have extra dialogue added to cover what was left off-page in the original.
    • Nathalie, the concept of Sentimonsters and fusing Miraculous are all added to this version.
  • Adapted Out: Due to canon establishing ''Befana'' takes place after ''Queen Wasp'' in ''Ladybug'', Befana is absent here, her role in the story taken by Princess Fragrance.
  • Ascended Extra: Hawk Moth and Princess Fragrance take on larger roles than the original, with the former become The Heavy for the story.
  • Compressed Adaptation: The content of multiple chapters is merged to make the story more concise and remove as much of the Anachronic Order as possible.
  • Continuity Nod: Here, rather than being artificially empowered, the multiple Akumas are the result of Nooroo using his power by himself, matching with the canon reveal that Kwamis using their power are more powerful.
  • Call-Forward: Nathalie is ordered to deal with Gabriel’s contact in Shanghai, presumably Cash from the Shanghai special.
  • Decomposite Character: Unlike the main story, the Miraculous book and the one Galloway procures for his plan are not the same.
  • Dramatic Irony: After waking up with Laser-Guided Amnesia and learning of a dimensional incident, Marinette shudders at the thought of Hawk Moth getting control of it. The proceeding story showed Hawk Moth with no control whatsoever over events.
  • Hand Wave: Since canon established that Hawk Moth’s control has a limited range, this fic establishes that the portals ensure that he counts as “in-range” enough to communicate.
  • Irony: Deathfury is the one wholly successful minion Hawk Moth has in his pocket, but the latter is currently forced into serving a different villain, and thus still never gets his hands on the Miraculous.
  • Opening Shout-Out: Not only does Dan quote his show’s original Opening Narration, Masquerade then proceeds to quote from both shows’ opening lyrics.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Gabriel and the Gorilla are simply rendered brainwashed, rather than frozen.
    • Inverted with the people of Paris, who end up frozen in place as a side effect of the universe bending, rather than being left to fend for themselves in a crater.
  • Take That!: Galloway’s Breaking Speech to the Miraculous heroes now boils down to how the heroes treat people like Chloé as the good guys, while treating their friendly associates as villains, an admitted jab at the Salt Fic genre, which the author considers tired.
