Taylor Hebert triggers with a very odd if useful set of powers. Given the ability to summon the Toads of Mount Myoboku, she enters the cape scene with both the aspirations to be a hero, and the backing of a clan. Based on the previous Toad summoners, she has a lot to live up too. Best get started….

The Great Toad Sage of Brockton Bay is a Worm and Naruto crossover by Radical Sway. Can also be found in FF.net and Sufficient Velocity.

Tropes present in The Great Toad Sage of Brockton Bay:

  • Adaptational Badass: Greg Veder triggers and gets Tinker powers.
  • The Alcoholic: Revenant is seen with a bottle of beer whenever he's not fighting.
  • Badass Longcoat: Taylor gets one when she hears that two previous summoners also wore them.
  • The Beastmaster: Taylor with her toads.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Assault acts like a clown, but he pulls his weight in the fight against Lung.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Taylor's summons grant her a variety of abilities to use in and out of combat.
    • Gamakichi is a Blaster who can also fight with a sword.
    • Gamatatsu focuses exclusively in long range.
    • Gama is an armored toad that fights hand-to-hand.
    • Gamariki uses water and also has illusions. Unfortunately, her Genjutsu doesn't work in the Wormverse, as there is no chakra there.
    • Kosuke is a scout and the fastest toad in her arsenal.
    • The Gourd Toad can absorb anything into an alternate dimension, be it items or people.
    • The Courier Brothers are three toads that share an alternate dimension in their stomachs, allowing for travel or misdirection.
    • Sukoshi is the leader of a group of regular sized toads that Taylor uses for surveillance.
    • Gamafuin can absorb fire into his sake jug.
  • Death by Adaptation: Several characters die because of the changes in the timeline.
    • Regent dies because no one was there to distract Lung when he goes after the Undersiders.
    • Bakuda is murdered by the Painted Lady after the latter sees that her sister is safe.
    • Lung dies in a major battle at the hands of the Painted Lady.
  • The Ditz: Gamatatsu is this, always asking for candy before helping Taylor out.
  • Enemy Mine: The various villain gangs and independents team up in an alliance to fight the ABB.
  • Eye Colour Change: Taylor can summon the eyes of a toad to replace her own eyes. This gives her the ability to see through the eyes of all the toads she has summoned beforehand.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Taylor getting different powers changes how the narrative goes. Some examples being:
    • The Undersiders get destroyed by Lung, with Regent dying, Brian taking his sister and moving to Boston, and Bitch deciding to just do her own thing, leaving Tattletale with Coil.
    • Taylor ends up saving and befriending Parian, starting a close friendship.
    • One of Taylor's toads ends up coming across Dinah, thus preventing her from being captured by Coil.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After killing Bakuda and Lung, the Painted Lady decided to become a vigilante and started attacking the ABB's prostitution rings.
    • Tattletale rebrands as Noir, a faceless noir detective themed cape.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: The Painted Lady's sister, Lily, has this as one of her powers.
  • Legacy Character: Taylor (unknowingly at first) has taken on the name of Jiraiya.
  • Living MacGuffin: Tinkers are quite the highly-sought commodity, but Chemist's broad specialization makes him more versatile and as such more valuable. He first appeared when the ABB tried to kill him for stopping the Empire to get a hold of him, and the Protectorate currently eyes him.
  • Morality Pet: Lily is this to her sister, the Painted Lady.
  • My Greatest Failure: For Greg, this is not helping Taylor in the locker.
  • Oblivious to Love: Taylor. She has no clue Parian is into her.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When Jiraiya calls the alliance to report her success, she learns that Lung is in the battle and already ramped up.
    • Dinah, when she uses her powers to figure out an Endbringer is going to attack the Bay in a month, and that Taylor has a high chance of dying in the coming battle.
  • Original Character: The fic adds several new parahumans in Brockton Bay.
    • For the ABB, they have Bushido and the Painted Lady.
    • For the independents, there's Revenant, Spray, and Pray.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Revenant's ability.
  • Running Gag: People being put off by Taylor's power and the various toads she can summon.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Taylor's codename "Jiraiya" is very much an homage to the folk hero and to the Pervy Sage.
    • When Tattletale decides to rebrand, her new costume is a hard-boiled detective suit with a false skin mask making her The Faceless. She even thinks about calling herself The Question.
  • The Sociopath: The Painted Lady is noted In-Universe to be a Type 2.
  • Squishy Wizard: Chemist can whip up various chemicals to take down lots of enemies, but if one gets up close to him, he is basically defenseless.
  • Sweet Tooth: Gamatatsu usually only follows orders after being given candy.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Taylor. She has to remind her toads of this because of the Culture Clash.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Bakuda runs her mouth, saying that the bomb she put on Lily should have liquefied her, while she was standing right next to the Painted Lady.
  • Undying Loyalty: Dinah towards Taylor. She spends one question always asking whether or not Taylor survives the month to ensure her savior's safety.
  • Vigilante Man: Revenant is a vigilante who doesn't hesitate to kill villains.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Taylor has no special abilities on her own. Because of this, her toads decided to train her to increase her chances of survival in combat.
  • Worthy Opponent: The Painted Lady considers Gamakichi this.
