The Bodyguard
is a Worm AU fanfic that follows the three following deviations:
- What if The Brigade failed to apprehend Marquis?
- What if Danny ended up in a coma before Taylor could start her career as Skitter?
- What if Marquis hired Taylor to be his daughter's bodyguard?
The story is likely dead, as it has not been updated since January 2017.
The Bodyguard provides examples of:
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
- Inverted for Amy, as she is raised by her loving father and not in a family where her sister was the only emotional comfort she had.
- Played straight with Victoria, as the Brigade was all killed in their last attack on Marquis.
- Adaptational Name Change: Amy and Taylor's Cape identities are different.
- Amy is referred to as Duchess instead of Panacea.
- Taylor goes by Widow rather than Skitter.
- Adaptational Sexuality: Taylor is bisexual here and starts dating Amy.
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Worm, Amy and Vicky were extremely close to each other and grew up as sisters. Here, Victoria isn't someone Amy concerns herself much with, while Victoria flat out despises Amy due to her being the daughter of the one who killed her family.
- Affably Evil: Marquis is cordial, polite, and a loving father to his daughter. However, he's still a ruthless Gang lord and he commits actions that will remind you that "Affably Evil" means "Affably Evil".
- Black-and-White Insanity: Victoria has it worse here since the Brigade died to Marquis. She aggressively categorizes criminals, their family members, and any who affiliate with them as pure evil and refuses to acknowledge any shades of grey.
- Bodyguarding a Badass: Widow probably doesn't even need to protect Duchess, but she does so anyway.
- Daddy's Girl: Amy loves and cherishes her father, striving to make him proud.
- Heroism Won't Pay the Bills: Part of why Taylor works for Marquis rather than join the Wards is because she needs money to pay for her father's medical bills to get him out of his coma. The Wards don't really provide any payment for that sort of thing.
- I Just Want to Be Badass: Duchess wants to make her father proud by showing that she can be a powerful enforcer without the need for a bodyguard.
- Kissing Cousins: Not really, but Taylor's cover story is that she's Amy's cousin, so it gives off this impression for those outside the Wards or Marquis direct associates.
- Lipstick Lesbian: It's mentioned that Amy has been attracted to other girls before she and Taylor started dating and she's shown to enjoy shopping and makeovers.
- Named by the Adaptation: Marquis is named Arthur Lavere whereas he was never given a first name in canon.
- Sins of the Father: Victoria has immense hatred for not only Marquis, for killing her family, but also his daughter just for being related to him.
