Fanfic / Star Wars: Twilight of the Force

Go To

Star Wars: Twilight of the Force is a fanfic created by Equestrian Defender, creator of EQuestria Girls Marvel Universe and The Kingdomverse, that adapts characters from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and places them in the Star Wars universe.

What started out as a normal day for Twilight Sparkle quickly changes for everyone when the Galactic Empire invades the planet with the intent of conquest. The Royal Guard are quickly overwhelmed and Princess Celestia is defeated and publicly executed by Darth Vader. A ten-year-old Twilight discovers her connection to the Force during this and after years on the run meets a Jedi Knight, Sunset Shimmer, and the two set out on an adventure that will change the galaxy.

This fanfic contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Zig-zagged with the Royal Guard. When fighting the invading Empire, they are shown to use cannons that fire bolts of magic, something that they never used in canon, where they were limited to just traditional weapons like spears, swords, shields, and whatever natural abilities they had. Despite these additional weapons though they don't do much to help them against the advanced sci-fi weaponry of the Galactic Empire.
  • Adaptational Wimp: This version of Princess Celestia is noted to be weaker than her canon counterpart. Not only can she not actually raise and lower the sun and moon, tapping into the power of the sun too much takes a lot out of her, leaving her practically defenseless afterwards.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: The citizens of Equestria are humans in appearance rather than ponies, but still have wings and magic, and their planet is placed in the Star Wars universe.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Celestia loses her left hand during her duel with Vader.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When the Empire invades, the Royal Guards are completely overwhelmed by their technological superiority and are slaughtered, with very few able to put up a resistance against them.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Though Celestia is ultimately outmatched by Darth Vader and the power of the Dark Side, she put up one hell of a fight. When she stops holding back and taps into the power of the sun, she actually is able to make Vader panic for a moment, and when the two clash Vader is shown to be in very bad shape afterwards.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Said word for word by Celestia when she stops holding back against Vader. Ironically, this was after Vader had cut off her left hand.
  • I Heard That: A variation. While fighting the invading Galactic Empire, one Royal Guard, Stone Wall, after surviving a massive blast from a thermal detonator, speaks to himself "Hopefully now those jackasses are out of explosives." Then as if to say "HEY! WE HEARD THAT!" several more thermal detonators are thrown into the tower where he is, with one stopping right next to him.
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: Averted when the Empire invades Equus-G4 they mow down the Royal Guard.
  • Red Shirt Army: The Royal Guard were already this in canon, but when the fight the invading Empire most of them are quickly shown to be out of their league. This is exaggerated when one of the first casualties reported during the battle is a guard who is literally named "Red Shirt".
  • Mythology Gag: The planet Equestria is on is called "Equus-G4". This is obviously a reference to how "Friendship is Magic" is the G4 generation of the "My Little Pony" franchise.
  • Not Bad: Darth Vader acknowledges Celestia's abilities during their duel, even if the Dark Side of the Force is superior.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The citizens of Equestria live in a fantasy setting and deal with magic regularly. So they are caught off-guard by the Galactic Empire and their sci-fi forces. During their duel, Celestia even briefly mistakes Darth Vader's use of the Dark Side of the Force as a form of dark magic.
  • Precision F-Strike: Celestia of all people drops the F-bomb during her duel with Darth Vader. Though to be fair, he did just cut off her left hand.
  • Retirony: One of the guards killed, Ol' Hickory, is stated to have been only two days away from retirement with full benefits.
