Fanfic / Seer Of Angels

Go To

Is lost in the flood
Here proud angels bathe in
Their wages of blood
At this, the world's end, do we cast off tomorrow
So you know how the story of Live A Live goes, right? Eight timelines, seven heroes, one demon, said demon being a Fallen Hero, the seven heroes have to face him before he goes and ruins all of time-space.

This however, is a story where the heroes instead have to go against an Angelic Abomination that threatens to make a World of Silence.

Seer of Angels, written by AnotherHobbyWriter and published on Archive of Our Own, is a Alternate Universe Completed Fic of the Remade for the Export video game Live A Live that involves a different Big Bad, and how their motives changed the plot.

ALL SPOILERS PERTAINING TO LIVE A LIVE AND ITS REMAKE WILL BE UNMARKED.

They say the road to tropes is paved in good intentions.

  • Adaptational Badass: Taeko replaces Matsu as the deuteragonist of this version of Near Future, implied to have the same physical strength and skills as he.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Due to there being no Lord of Dark this time around, it is the Queen of Lucrece who is the Fallen Hero.
  • Big Bad: The titular Seer of Angels.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Just like canon. The Big Bad is defeated and the heroes go home, but Lucrece (and Vanda) are in ruins, the people Abique brainwashed have lost their memories, but at least Oersted, Alethea and the survivors of Vanda live their lives freely.
  • Body Horror: Abquatum's battle form has it fuse with Rachel. Their combined form is described as angelic, but with skin being morphed into white gel.
  • Cutting Off the Branches: Played With. Although the game treats all three successors as 'canon', in this fanfic, Hong ends up as the new Earthen Heart Master, due to avoiding capture by Ab Ki Que and the Imperial Guards.
  • Death by Adaptation: Downplayed with Taeko. Despite being to one to sacrifice herself instead of Matsu, she ends up comatose after the overdose. Played straight with Steel Titan, when Abiqua-as-Inko wrecks the mecha, Akira ends up having to go all out with a new attack, destroying both in the process.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • Imperial China: Shifu doesn't make it beyond the first half of this version of Imperial China, as he is critically injured by Ab Ki Que, then uses the last of his strength to teach Hong the Heavenly Peaks Descent.
    • Distant Future: Huey still dies in a Heroic Sacrifice, but to throw the assimilated Kirk out of the ship. Rachel is fought and killed after Abquatum fuses with her.
  • Killed Offscreen: He's not mentioned, but the Kuu Chief was implied to suffer this fate after Abq took control.
  • I Have Many Names: Just like Odio, The Seer of Angels herself. Abq, Ab Ki Que, Abe Quan, Abigail Quentin, ABQU-3, Abquia, Abquatum, Agatha/Abique.
  • In Spite of a Nail: There's still a dinosaur in Prehistory, but it's under Abq's control. And it still dies.
  • Light Is Not Good: The Flood of Light. Said to be lacking in emotion, and will turn anyone affected into a mindless drone.
  • Meaningful Name: Abique, the Seer of Angels is named after the Ojibwe translation from 'she lives alone', fitting for an emotionless villain.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Queen Agatha of Lucrece goes unnamed in both versions of the game.
  • Shared Universe: During the epilogue of Prehistory, with Octopath Traveler II. Hikari Ku is seen reading the storybook version of the chapter's events to his fellow travellers/friends.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Wild West: It's rather murky in the canon game, but since the Crazy Bunch doesn't exist here, Pike is shown alive.
    • Near Future: Matsu doesn't sacrifice himself, while Unryu isn't brainwashed by Noriko, and escapes with Akira's Teleport.
    • Distant Future: Captain Hor, despite being possessed by Abquatum and losing his memory afterwards, survives the events due to the Cogito Ego Sum having no intrusive AI.
    • Due to this version of Middle Ages taking place before her birth, Alethea as well as Oersted survive the events of this fanfic. Zigzagged with the Queen of Lucrece, who becomes the villain but still dies in the end.
