"It does not matter who you are. Once you're not useful to the Metro anymore, it will get rid of you."
Schrei Der Angst is a fanfiction written by Zaryl Verscholen, inspired by Metro 2033, both in French and in English.Bipedal dragons are normal in this world. They come in all sort of shape or color, the only difference is the meaning of their creation. It follows the story of three dragon siblings, respectively named Thal, Dhimitry 'Dimah', and Silas. They all bear the family name of 'Verscholen'.

This fanfiction features the following tropes:

  • A Death In The Lime Light: Lym.
  • And I Must Scream: Thal, while he was locked away and when he tried to suicide because of the death of his mate, Lym, before getting stopped by Obsidian.
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: The narration in Sterben changed from first-person to third-person.
  • Anti-Villain :While Lezer might be cruel with his solutions, he actually believes that everyone have a chance, but that some might not pass it.
  • Anyone Can Die
  • Arc Words: The word Blitztoten is repeated a lot with Dimah.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Dimah's Faradian Echo ability, allowing him to revive the last minutes of a dead person. While he could, and he can, recover important mysteries with that, using his ability leaves him exposed. Plus, that drains a lot of energy out of him.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Thal wants Obsidian to leave him be. Although, when he gets what he wants... It doesn't turn as good as expected.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Some Russian and German is present.
  • Blessed with Suck: Dimah is a scaleless dragon. The scales are replaced with thick and heavy grey skin. This removes every advantage that he could have, like better protection, resistance to the ice cold temperatures of the surface, agility or flexibility.
  • Chained Heat: Thal and Obsidian.
  • Chekhov's Gun :Dimah's modified M1 Garand.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Basically Lezer in a nutshell. He tricks Dimah into capturing Thal in exchange for his captured son, but when he fails, he gets his son killed and his wings removed.
    • And Silas? Since he wasn't that useful, Lezer tells Sar to leave him to die, which he does happily.
    • Oh, and don't think that Sar was spared. He almost got killed by Lezer, but he shook it off.
  • Cool, but Inefficient: Dimah's Faradian Fire. While it differs from normal Faradians, as it is electric-based fire, it can do more damage in a blast than normal Faradians, but it does not conducts to metal, and have poor efficiency against an armored target.
  • Cycle of Revenge: What almost every protagonist wants. Thal wants to kill Dimah because he was the one to kill his mate, Lym, while Dimah wants Thal dead because it was his fault that his son was dead and that his wings would be removed.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Happens twice with Thal, once with Dimah.
    • Thal when he got his wings sliced off, and when Dimah shot his mate.
    • Dimah when the same thing happened with the loss of his son.
  • Dashed Plot Line: Thal's past before Dimah's betrayal is explained by flashbacks in a random order.
  • Double-Meaning Title: Schrei Der Angst means Scream Of Angst. Guess what Thal does sometimes.
  • Driven to Suicide: After Dimah's betrayal, Thal attempts it. Subverted by Obsidian.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: What Dimah does to Thal.
  • Fantastic Racism: Basically the Reich. Only dragons with clear colors (Light gray, white, light orange)are allowed to join the faction. While dark scaled dragons like Thal are supposed to be shot on sight, it is said that it is only allowed on martial law ordered by who controls the station.
  • First Time in the Sun: Averted. Thal dislikes standing in plain daylight, Dimah even more so.
  • Fridge Horror: The more Dimah thinks of the disadvantages of his skin, the more he becomes anxious of the next situation.
  • Groin Attack: Silas accidentally does that to one of the human raiders that attacked him.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: When Thal ever tries to commit suicide, Obsidian blocks him.
  • Life-or-Limb Decision: Justified. When Thal was locked away in Lezer's laboratory, he knew that he was going to die or worse if he stayed a second more. While he broke free, the link attached to his tail didn't. So what he did was to take the knife that Lezer left in front of him, and started hacking at his tail. For four minutes. Ouch.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When Thal used to kill innocent peoples back when he was a Ranger. The truth is, that the Rangers put an hit on whoever knows too much/interfering.
  • Not Hyperbole: Dimah says that his skin gives him no appeal. Which is true, as he got denied the 'services' of a 'working dragoness'.
  • Mental Time Travel: Dimah's Faradian Echo.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Dragons are bipedal, almost humanoid. Why? Simple, if you know the reason.
  • Power Glows: Dimah and Thal's Faradian attacks.
  • Scars Are Forever: Thal will never fly again, like Dimah. Thal's tail is amputated, his left hind paw crippled, his horns and teeth broken.
  • Separated at Birth: The three brothers. While Thal's egg was grabbed by Zaru, Dimah's egg was found abandoned and Silas's one was the only one left for the experiments of Lezer.
  • Sequel Non-Entity: Ardin, the cart driver at the Ranger station, seemed to have abandoned his friend.
  • Series Continuity Error: Dimah was sent off to Polis to capture Thal. But in Sterben, Dimah seemed to leave Thal be for two months, while he KNOWS that his son is captured.
  • Start of Darkness : If Dimah went practically obsessed with the idea of the death of Thal, it is for a lot of reasons. His son was killed and his wings removed because of him, his skin gives him no appeal so most peoples avoids him while Thal practically got a female quite easily. Plus, he was accused of treason of the Reich by working with a communist, so he is on a hit list, while Thal seems to have avoided death for more than 16 years.
  • The Infiltration: Adverted. Thal likes to go loud, while Dimah is not the best inflitrator.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Thal's favorite food is a Russian classic, Beef Stroganov. Dimah perfers Shashlik.
