- Baby Trap: Pinkie tries this on Cheese. She's deluded herself into thinking it's just to have a memento, but after he calls her out for it, she realises what she was actually doing.
- Beware the Nice Ones: During the Quesadilla eating contests, Fluttershy is vicious. And (along with Applejack) the victor, with Sumac and Pebble coming in second.
- Birds of a Feather: Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich.
- Birth-Death Juxtaposition: Just as Prickly Pear experiences a fatal Heroic RRoD (due to overexertion at an advanced age), the scene cuts to the Bearers and Sumac at the closest thing Appleloosa has to a hospital, supporting an (unidentified) new mother.
- Comfort Food: Twilight is regularly photographed pigging out on cheesy hayburgers when stressed.
- Ethical Slut: Rainbow Dash, who quite happily sleeps with just about anypony, but also believes consent to be the sexiest possible thing. She later tries (apparently successfully) to teach the Ethical bit to Sumac.
- Fear of Thunder: Boomer is easily startled by thunder.
- Fire-Breathing Diner: Twilight, after the Pinto Bean dinner.
- Head Pet: Boomer is too big to be this anymore, but she still reflexively tries when startled, causing some problems now she's as big as Sumac.
- Lovable Rogue: Sumac is viewed as something of one in-universe. Most of those who know him well are grateful to Trixie that he turned out like this, and not more like his father.
- A Man Is Always Eager: Briefly comes up, as Sumac initially catches the flak for the bath encounter with Pebble, despite it being her fault (she is actively pushing further than he's comfortable with), something that Pinkie is shown to be regretful in later stories.
- Musical Assassin: Sumac and Vinyl are attempting to weaponise music, and their experiments are annoying the residents of Ponyville.
- Noodle Incident: There are several in this story, not unexpected, given it's running a few years ahead of most of the Weedverse plot, and some may get explained in later written (but earlier set) stories. Particularly notable instances are the Chicken Incident that resulted from Sumac and Vinyl's experiments, gambling with Pale, and when Appleloosa's poo got pilfered.
- Polyamory: Twilight ends the story in a relationship with Pinkie and Seville.
- Hormone-Addled Teenager: Like Flicker Nicker before him, Sumac is rather bothered by his hormones, but not as much as Pebble, who nearly pushes things way further than he wants them, until Pinkie Pie and Applejack, warned by Pinkie Sense, successfully intervene.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sumac notes that this is a major way of tracking when something's up with a Pie, and it's what tips Applejack off to Pinkie's problems with Cheese.
- Relationship Upgrade: Pebble and Sumac have apparently had one since Princess Twilight Sparkle's School For Fantastic Foals, having moved on to actual kissing, to the surprise of no-one except Twilight Sparkle. Given it's set six years later, this is not a surprise to the readers either.
- Romance-Inducing Smudge: Pebble licked frosting off Sumac's face during his ninth birthday.
- Second Place Is for Losers: Pebble firmly believes this, driving herself too hard to try and avoid the dreaded position. She doesn't get the gold, and is unsatisfied with her award for "Technical Perfection".
- Selective Obliviousness: Sumac believes this is the cause of Tarnish and Octavia's insistence that Megara has some talent for singing.
- Shipper on Deck: Rarity is rather keen on Twilight/Seville.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: When narrating from Boomer's perspective, she definitely doesn't steal eggs from Fluttershy's hens for the purposes of sucking, and they definitely aren't tastier than normal eggs.
- Sore Loser: A trait Pebble acknowledges about herself.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: Pinkie Pie believes this of her and Cheese Sandwich, as she must stay in Ponyville, and he must wander the edges of Equestria, no matter how much either of them would prefer otherwise. Pinkie Pie has in general has concluded that party ponies don't make good partners due to being too unstable.
- Super-Strength: Rainbow Dash acquired this from her visit to the Druid's Grove.
- The Talk: Although already acquainted with the technical end of things, both Sumac and Pebble are subject to a few, now their hormones are kicking in.
- What Did I Do Last Night?: Twilight wakes up in Rainbow's bed. While Twilight's concern is justified, nothing happened, as she didn't approach Rainbow until long after she was way too drunk to offer informed consent.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Twilight has Turophobia (fear of cheese), so of course she's expected to take part in the Quesadilla eating contest.
