One day, thirty people woke up in the bodies of various characters that exist in the anime My Hero Academia, three weeks before the start of the the first day of the school year.

Oops, All Self-Inserts is a collection of My Hero Academia fanfics, written by a group of authors on Archive of Our Own, and inspired by this Reddit post. Featuring a total of 30 fanfics (and a set of interludes), each fanfic is written from the perspective of one of the Self-Inserts.

Spoilers for MHA itself are explicitly mentioned throught these fanfics due to the whole nature of Metaknowledge, and there also contains very specific plot twists within some of them.

Tropes

• Adaptational Angst Upgrade: What would be a fanfic without more angst?
  • In contrast to canon My Hero Academia, the Oops, All Self-Inserts universe has a boatload more of angst for every single one of the characters. Whether that be gender identity, wishing to go home, or whatever the hell else, just know that there's a ton of angst to go around!
• Adaptational Early Appearance: They were just itching to be introduced.
  • Some characters in Oops, All Self-Inserts were introduced way before they became known in canon. For example, Melissa Shield from I-Island was introduced almost immediately. The same can be said about Overhaul and Eri, due in part to Eri being one of the character's with a self-insert.
• Adaptation Expansion:
  • Everyone knows how there's a lot of side characters in My Hero Academia. Well, not anymore! In Oops, All Self-Inserts, every character is a main character! People like Monoma Neito, Shinsou Hitoshi, Natsuo Todoroki, etc, all play important parts in the narrative of this project. No self-insert doesn't play an important role in this collection.
• Alternate Universe: Canon? What's canon?
  • Unless self-inserts being a part of canon My Hero Academia was missed, this collection diverges from canon completely. Canon was swept under the rug the moment canon characters had other people isekaied into them. Not only that, but this phenomenon completely derailed the entire original plot of the series. Canon no longer exists in the Oops, All Self-Inserts world!
• Ascended Extra: I've never heard of the word extra before?
  • You know how the entirety of Class 1-B was scarcely mentioned till the Joint Battle Training in canon? Well, no more! Every single character classified as an 'extra' in canon is now their own main character! Whether they're a self-insert or not, folks such as Monoma Neito, Shiozaki Ibara, and Kendo Itsuka have been launched to the forefront of the stage!
• Death by Adaptation:
  • In canon, Overhaul doesn't die, but instead loses his arms and gets shipped off to Tartarus. Well, in Oops, All Self-Inserts, he never gets the chance to go to Tartarus! He instead takes a visit to his grave.
• High School:
  • Most of the characters in this universe go to U.A. High School. This also happens to be the place where a lot of chaos goes down. Who knew?
• Internal Reveal:
  • There are plenty of secrets that the audience knows that the other self-inserts do not. For example, the audience knows that Bakugou, Shinsou, and Hagakure are self-inserts, but does anyone else know?
• Original Character: They didn't exist
  • Many OCs have been created from this project. Examples of this would be Kirishima's parents, Shinsou's parents, and some of Natsuo's acquaintances.
• Self-Insert Fic: How could this not be added?
  • All 30 writers are self-inserts. That should be pretty self explanatory.
• Spirit Advisor: Some characters have the ghost of the original character hanging around.
  • The list of these characters includes, among others, Iida, Shiozaki and Midoriya.
• Trapped in Another World:
  • Every self-insert being isekaied into another world, with no known way out, is scary. For all they know, they're trapped in the anime known as My Hero Academia.
