More Than Meets the Ear Cover Picture

More Than Meets the Ear is an EQUESTRIA GIRLS/Transformers crossover by MrAskAPirate.

Started out as a one shot, but due to its popularity, it got additional chapters showing how Octavia, Flash Sentry, and the CMC got involved in a Masquerade with a group of Cybertronians hiding on Earth.

Contains examples of:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Optimus Prime asks Blackbolt gets asked why she serves Megatron, which causes her to question the Decepticon cause.
  • Ascended Extra: In Equestria Girls, Flash Sentry and Vinyl are supporting characters at best, while the CMC and Octavia are only bit characters. In this story, they get the focus while the Humane 6 only appear at the very beginning.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When the CMC and Sweetie Bot are cornered by a Decepticon, Subwoofer, Maestro, and Blackbolt arrive just in time to save them.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Blackbolt tells Flash Sentry that when she fought Optimus, he easily subdued her and spared her life.
  • Dramatic Irony: What made Blackbolt make a full Heel–Face Turn from the Decepticons, was when she subdued Subwoofer and Maestro before they could escape, and found herself in the same position that Optimus Prime was when he defeated her.
  • Easily Forgiven:
    • Each of the Autobots forgave their human friends for their behavior, having understood that they were being brainwashed into more negative behavior by the Sirens.
    • Octavia forgives Vinyl for having Subwoofer turn into a sound system that the Rainbooms used to defeat the Sirens, even if it was a risky move.
  • Fembot: Blackbolt is a female Cybertronian who used to serve the Decepticons before she defected to the Autobots.
  • Grand Theft Prototype: Maestro, Subwoofer, and Blackbolt broke Sweetie Bot out of one of the Decepticons’ experimental facilities.
  • Greater-Scope Villain:
    • Megatron. The Decepticon who Subwoofer, Maestro, Blackbolt, and Sweetie Bot fight against was sent to Earth on his orders to study anomalous energy readings.
    • The epilogue reveals that others besides the CMC, Octavia, Flash, and Vinyl know about the Masquerade, and are searching for Cybertronians for unknown reasons.
  • The Great Offscreen War: In this fanfic, the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons is still ongoing.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Blackbolt was a loyal soldier of the Decepticons, but her encounter with Optimus Prime lead to her defecting to the Autobots.
  • Masquerade: Vinyl, Octavia, Flash Sentry, and the CMC are currently the only ones who know about the Cybertronians. However, the last chapter suggests that others also know about them as well, namely Lemon Zest.
  • Magic Versus Science:
    • Maestro tells Octavia that he’s studying the strange energy readings that the Dazzlings and the Rainbooms produced during the Battle of the Bands.
    • The Decepticon that Megatron had sent to Earth was also studying the energy readings from the Battle of the Bands as well.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: Blackbolt was assigned to security for the facility where Sweetie Bot was created after she failed to assassinate Optimus Prime.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Out of anger at having their magic and singing taken away from them, the Dazzlings decide to punish the Rainbooms by attacking Vinyl. Unfortunately for them, Subwoofer was there to lend Vinyl a hand.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Sweetie Bot is the most emotional out of all of the other Cybertronians.
  • Sequel Hook: The last chapter reveals that Lemon Zest also has a Cybertronian that can turn into her headphones, and she tells an unknown person over the phone: "Found Them".
  • Summon Bigger Fish: The Dazzlings ambush Vinyl Scratch at her house, but when they back her up to her car, Vinyl taps on the vehicle, and it transforms into the Autobot, Subwoofer.
  • Super Prototype: Sweetie Bot is an experimental Cybertronian made by the Decepticons that uses space bridge technology to reduce her size from a human-sized robot, to something as small as a phone.
  • Transforming Mecha: Vinyl Scratch and Flash Sentry's cars are revealed to be Cybertronians named Subwoofer and Blackbolt respectively.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: The Rainbooms don't question how and/or why Vinyl has a car that can transform into a sound system, but they thank her for her help in stopping the Sirens.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Blackbolt and Flash take turns ribbing each other, but they are close.
  • The Voiceless: Vinyl speaks to others through sign language and text messaging. Though Octavia gets annoyed that she doesn't use proper grammar.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Octavia angrily sends several text messages to Vinyl over her risking breaking the Masquerade.
