Knows if You've Been Naughty is a one-shot Invader Zim fanfic by Eduard Kassel.

It’s the Christmas season, and holiday cheer is everywhere... except coming from Gaz, whose only concern is getting the big new game release. But when she displays some especially naughty behavior in the process of getting it, she unknowingly gains the attention of an avenging yuletide spirit — Krampus. Now, Gaz will have to face his wrath, on a Christmas Eve she's unlikely to ever forget.

It can be read here.

Tropes in this story:

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Despite everything she's seen as a result of Dib's paranormal studies, Gaz refuses to believe in Santa Claus, and holds it against her father that despite his scientific mind, he not only still believes in the jolly old soul but also holds an obsessive grudge against him. She appears utterly shocked when she meets Santa at the end of the story and realizes he's real.
  • Bad Santa: Relatively downplayed, but the fact that Santa not only approves of Krampus brutally punishing naughty children, but also uses him to abduct those children and transform them into brainwashed elves makes him at the very least morally ambiguous.
  • Brainwashed: After being transformed into an elf, Gaz is brainwashed to think only of joyfully creating Christmas presents for nice children.
  • Christmas Elves: Naturally, Santa's elves show up. Judging by Gaz's final fate, they appear to all be naughty children who have been forcibly transformed and brainwashed to serve him.
  • Christmas Episode: It's an Invader Zim story set on Christmas, and is built around a relatively obscure bit of holiday lore.
  • Clothing Damage: By the time Krampus' beating of Gaz with a switch is done, it's stated that the back of her dress is in ruin.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Krampus easily destroys Gaz's security dolls and overpowers her.
  • Death of Personality: Gaz's brainwashing after her transformation is specifically shown completely overwriting her old personality and memories.
  • Gratuitous Latin: After Gaz brutally beats a man in the mall for desperately trying to buy her game off of her for his son, the eyes of the snowmen in a nearby Christmas display light up red as they declare in the Voice of the Legion "Krampus Venturus Est", which loosely translates to "Krampus is coming".
  • Karmic Transformation: Gaz, who showed zero holiday cheer or compassion for others, is transformed into an elf by Krampus and brainwashed to serve Santa, making toys for children nicer than her forever. And it's implied all naughty children abducted by Krampus suffer this fate.
  • The Krampus: The main antagonist of this story is Krampus, who appears in order to punish Gaz for her naughty behavior. As per the traditional stories, he beats her with a switch and then abducts her. However, in a break from those stories, he doesn't eat her (he's actually a vegetarian); instead, he transforms her into an elf that Santa then brainwashes to serve him. Also, rather than some sort of horned demon, he appears to be completely human, and in an inversion of Santa, he's rail thin and dressed all in black.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: When a man tries desperately to buy her game off of her for his own son, Gaz beats him into a bloody mess with a large metal candy cane from a holiday display. Later, Krampus punishes her by beating her back viciously with a switch.
  • No-Sell: One of Gaz's security dolls hits Krampus with a blast from a pair of flamethrowers, which he just shrugs off.
  • Noodle Incident: Santa says he didn't give Professor Membrane the plutonium he wanted as a child because of "what he did to those hamsters".
  • Oh, Crap!: Gaz's reaction when Krampus destroys her security, proving he's actually a threat to her.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Krampus destroys the first of Gaz's security dolls by lashing out with his tongue and slamming the doll against the floor.
  • Retired Monster: Krampus notes that he's mostly retired from his role these days, but felt he had to make an exception for Gaz.
  • Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: When Gaz is turned into an elf, her human clothes are noted to now be too big for her, though Santa quickly fixes this by turning them into an elf's outfit.
  • Written-In Absence: Dib and Professor Membrane are both absent from the story, instead being out trying to hunt down Santa to fulfill the Professor's vendetta against him. As such, Gaz is on her own when Krampus shows up for her.
