Hunting Wyverian
is a fanfic by X0ll0X. It is a crossover between Worm and Monster Hunter.
When Taylor triggers in the locker, she ends up finding herself in another world. One with very large and aggressive wildlife....and all she can think about is turning them into nice clothes and weapons...
This work contains examples of:
- Adaptational Badass: By the time Taylor meets Lung, which is even earlier than in canon, she's already faced off against a Nerscylla and an entire pack of Maccao.
- Alternate Universe: Earth Bet and whatever universe the Monster Hunter world is in.
- Bat Deduction: A subset of Taylor's powers - she can determine the threat an enemy poses to her, as well as what kind of weapons and armor she could make out of that enemy, just by looking at them. It also works on parahumans, to her surprise.
- The Dreaded: Taylor, aka Wyverian, got this reputation after killing an entire pack of Maccao, in particular when she killed the last one by plunging her fingers into its brain. Sophia is deliberately trying to Invoke this trope in the hopes of turning everyone against Taylor.. It isn't working that well, though, as while people fear her, they also respect her.
- Gadgeteer Genius: Taylor, since she can now make all of the weapons and armor from the Monster Hunter series...as long as she has the materials.
- Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: A variation - for reasons unexplained, creatures from the Monster Hunter universe are starting to show up in Earth Bet. As has been shown in the Parahumans Online Thread for the story (actually a Role-play thread on Spacebattles to help him right PHO omakes), people are really starting to get worried about this, since they could be going up against the equivalent of rats with what they've encountered so far. The scary thing about this is that, essentially, they're right - the only monsters to have come through to Earth Bet when the omake was posted were a pack of Maccao.... and a group of Felynes, but those don't count.
- Hidden Depths: Sophia, of all people, likes cats. Apparently, this is because they never abandoned their predatory nature despite being domesticated.
- Superpower Lottery: Taylor one this when she triggered, gaining Brute, Tinker, and Thinker powers.
- Trapped in Another World: Zigzagged - Taylor has ended up in the Monster Hunter world several times after falling asleep, but she always returns home after slaying a monster. Essentially, she falls asleep, goes on a hunt, then heads home after completing the hunt.
- Where Does She Get All Those Wonderful Toys: Justified in Taylor's case - somehow, Felynes from the Monster Hunter world can come into Earth Bet, and will sell off parts of her kills for her in exchange for a portion of the profits.
