He Has The Heart
is an Inspector Gadget (1999) fic that delves much more into the emotional side effects becoming a Cyborg could have brought upon John Brown.
This fanfic contains examples of:
- Barbie Doll Anatomy: Along with the rest of his damaged organs, John's reproductive system was unfortunately one to go, much to his dismay.For what had to be the tenth time today his mind offered up the insistence that this had to be some drug-fueled nightmare he was having while laid up in a hospital bed somewhere. He was starting to have his doubts at this point. Things had finally progressed past the scope of his imagination. They’d turned him into a life-sized, crime-fighting Ken doll.
- Body Horror:
- Most (if not all) of John's internal organs were taken out in the procedure, leaving him with nothing but metal components in their place.
- Like in the film, John's fingertips are removable, and various hatches on his body allow the inner machinery to be seen.
- Upon first awakening, John accidentally extends one arm several feet away from him, and it partially retracts whilst he's conversing with Brenda:
Brenda: Don’t worry, that’s completely normal–John: 'NORMAL'?! - Determinator: John is described as not being someone to quit after the first attempt.
- Freak Out: Similar to the movie, John initially doesn't take his situation very well, expressing shock and terror over some of his "enhancements".
- Heroic BSoD: The discovery of the extensive changes to his body leads John to lock himself in a hospital bathroom, and later emerges with red eyes, indicating he'd been crying.
- Horrible Judge of Character: John has one, according to Penny.
- Mad Scientist: Downplayed with Brenda. While she is a good person at heart, she happens to be a bit too focused on the technological side of things, and not John's own feelings about being converted into a Do-Anything Robot.
- Mirthless Laughter: In response to Penny's question about seeing if her uncle wasn't "mutilated or anything", John begins to chuckle, which then escalates into loud, hysterical cries.(Beat as Penny turns to Brenda)Penny: Okay, seriously, what did you do to him?
