Or: In which Mal is the unwilling leader who's really good at her job, Evie and Carlos actually use their genius brains, Jay has a lot of friends, and the other kids on the Isle actually get OFF the Isle. Featuring pirate shenanigans, a village of kids with no adult supervision, and an actual explanation for all of the Isle kids who only have a single parent.

The story can be found here

Gangs United provides examples of:

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: A rather odd example but it counts. Due to working under Jocelyn's tutelage for so long Freddie picked up a few things like making sure she's never in the debt of anyone instead making them in her debt. So, because the shadows always required a price, she made sure to help them out whenever she could without demanding a anything. She gave them energy here and there and let them rest in her shadow when the light became too intense. As such the shadows became grateful to her and stated bringing her things, warning her of potential danger, and telling her secrets. That's how she originally found out Carlos accidentally poked a hole though a barrier.
  • Blessed with Suck: Due to the anti-magic barrier, the children with magical heritage flowing in their veins was suppressed. Sometimes this was a good thing like in Uma's case where she was born with legs and none of her mother's weaknesses. Unfortunately, Mal wasn't so lucky with her Fae heritage. She felt largely uncomfortable in her own skin and could never fully develop her mother's powers to the fullest potential. This in turn made Maleficent consider her "useless" and a disappointment which only fueled Mal's "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl attitude. Thankfully, she completely gets rid of it by the time of the Great Escape from the Isle.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Maleficent is Mal's only parent because of the Heir spell she cast so Hades is no way her father here. In fact, he has his own daughter Helia who he dearly loves.
  • Frontline General: During the war with the villains, according to Maleficent, Mulan managed to take down half the kingdom's champions before assuming the role of High General and then preceded to slowly gain an advantage and imprisoned the other villains one by one.
  • Good Parents: There are very few of these due to most of the villain parents either being abusive, neglectful, outright emotionally abusive, or maybe even some kind of twisted combination of the three. However, there are still a few good parents out there in the Isle as we come to find out.
    • Hades definitely is one towards his daughter Helia. Not only does he give a beautiful, heartwarming speech on how much he loves her but it's a even bigger Tear Jerker when you witness her subsequent breakdown of trying to explain that she's leaving. Then learning he knew the entire time his daughter was planning to leave due to Gil being a terrible at keeping secrets and noticing Helia was spending more time with him lately. By the end of it he admits he supports them whole-heartedly.
    • According to Jocelyn, Drizelda actually cares about Dizzy enough where she wanted to say goodbye to her for the last time before they lost finally left they Isle.
    • Gil's mother deserves a mention. Gil clearly looked devastated when he hears that he might not be able to say goodbye to her before he leaves the Isle forever.
  • Hated by All: Nobody likes Hansel, the son of Prince Hans, as they consider him to be a douche and they all refuse to let him join their gangs. Hansel had been shown to rightfully earn that hate since he stole Ace's flowers he was going to use to confess to Percy with. They all can't stand him to the point where they're all completely fine with leaving him on the Isle when they escape.
  • Mystical Pregnancy: After the villains lost the war against the heroes, Maleficent used an ancient forbiden spell that allowed her and the other villains to sire their children purely from their own DNA in revenge to continue their villainy when they're gone. Due to the spell effecting so many people, the spell warped and instead of a perfect look-a-like like Mal, some of them ended up with twins or children with different gender.
  • Noodle Incident: According to Freddie, the reason Hansel stole the flowers from Ace when he was about to confess his feelings to Percy was because of an incident involving the twins and the pigpen cipher.
  • Original Character: There's a lot of them in this story- most who's the unmentioned children of villains. They're all incredibly fleshed out through.
    • First there's Jocelyn Ratcliffe, who's father is Governor Ratcliffe from Pocahontas. Her brain's hardwired for economics and as such she's the leader of the Merchant's gang who also took Freddie under her wing as her right hand.
    • Ace, who's mother is the queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, seems to have very strong feelings toward Percy and thankfully, Word of God informed us that while he is a little off like other Wonderlandian's, he's not nearly as bad as his mother.
