Fanfic / Disgaea: Dragon of Dragons

Go To

Issei: (cries) This place is a madhouse.

Disgaea: Dragon of Dragons is a Crossover between Nippon Ichi's Disgaea 3 and High School D×D.

Summer break has finally begun for Issei Hyoudou. Unknown to him, in just a few months, he will encounter a woman who will kill him, and the future love of his life will revive him under her service as a Devil.

Fate, however, has other plans in mind for this hopeless pervert. He sees a magic portal before him, and is dragged off to a world that has no logic. Monsters traverse its halls. It is a den of evil.

...actually, it's just the Nether Institute Evil Academy. But what's the difference?

This story contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Always a Bigger Fish: Word of God claims that the powerful entities of Disgaea can easily match and overpower the more powerful characters of D×D. The best example being Tyrant Overlord Baal, who could very well be as powerful, or far stronger, than the likes of 666/Trihexa.
  • Amazon Chaser: After watching Piere effortlessly kick the Overlord hunter sisters away and through the roof, he proudly declares that he has a raging hard on, much to Gig's chagrin.
Gig: You got a fetish for violent red-heads or something, brat?
Issei: Yeah. I think I do.
    • Lampshaded by a Discretion Shot, cutting to Rias who sneezes when Gig asks that.
  • Ascended Extra: Asagi. In the games, she was mostly just an annoying character that attempted time and time again to steal the MC's position as a main character. Here, she's a member of Issei's party.
  • Berserk Button: Prinnies acting disobediently turns out to be a minor one for Agnes. Probably because her uncle was Valzy.
  • Blood Knight:
    • Priere. Since becoming an Overlord, she's been looking for a good challenge, but hasn't found a good opponent. Her encounter with Issei, and subsequently witnessing the power of Boosted Gear awakening in full, has her stick around to watch him grow stronger so she can fight him.
    • Gig is also this, given his former occupation and role. These days, though, he's just traveling Netherworld to Netherworld in search of good eats.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Comes with being a crossover with Disgaea. That being said, Reno advises to Shiro not to do it too often since Disgaea is more in-line with Leaning on the Fourth Wall rather than breaking it outright.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Gig and Revya, of course. In this case, though, it should be called Brooding Tsundere Master of Death, Mute Wonderful World Eater Girlfriend.
  • Bullying a Dragon: When looking for Gig, Issei and company encounter a pair of Overlord hunters named Eliza and Alice. When they run into Priere in Chapter 10 Part 3, they naturally try to kill her. Not only do they fail to deal any significant damage to her, Priere just outright blows them out of the academy and through the roof.
  • The Cameo: One of the disciples training under Champloo is implied to be Pancho, given his remark of how someone named "Seraphina Sis" has been sending his teacher nothing but junk food lately.
  • Chef of Iron: Mister Champloo, naturally. He's all but implied to be a Demon Lord-level demon and serves as the teacher for Home Economics who keeps his students who take his class confined until they become world-class chefs.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: For all his faults, Issei's perversion is surprisingly tame compared to in the novels and anime. Probably because of the fact that all the women he finds attractive in the Netherworld are all capable of killing him.
  • Cool Uncle: Agnes' uncle is none other than Valvatorez, who she speaks of fondly from time to time.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Agnes was subject to Half-Breed Discrimination, born between a union of human and demon. She and her brother were hunted down by demons who despised half-breeds such as herself. She was saved and promptly looked after by Valvatorez.
  • Discretion Shot: Happens a few times over the course of the story, namely whenever certain characters are brought up or when discussing traits belonging to characters.
  • Dork Knight: Asagi and Agnes. Asagi for her Genki Girl antics and her budding friendship with Issei, and Agnes for being the teams' resident adorable little half-demon.
  • Freak Out: When Issei acknowledges Priere's status screen and sees her LV and Title, he runs around the room screaming his head off for several minutes, much to the chagrin of everyone else.
  • Game-Breaker: In-Universe, this is the case with Boosted Gear, even when it abides by the rules of the Netherworld and its RPG Mechanics 'Verse.
  • Has a Type: In Chapter 10 Part 3, after watching Priere one-shot the Drakesworn sisters, Gig asks Issei if he has a thing for red-heads after the latter shamelessly says he has a raging erection. Issei says he does.
  • I Will Find You: When looking for a new place to grind for Levels, Kelly tells Issei about Agnes' past and how she came to Evil Academy in the hopes of finding her brother.
  • Noodle Incident: A few noodles happen, among which are Phino's favor to the group in exchange for lowering the price of a gun for 1000 HL and the group's battle against some Alraune demons.
  • Occidental Otaku: Issei, Agnes, Asagi and Reno are all hardcore fans of video games, manga and anime. It's partially because of this that Issei, unintentionally, befriends Asagi when she was about to accuse him of stealing her game.
  • Oh, Crap!: The second Agnes states her uncle is Valvatorez and threatens to send them back to him, the Prinnies that initially caused Issei and company so much trouble start to panic and swear their loyal services to them out of fear.
  • Only Sane Man: Issei fills this trope, and somewhat of an Audience Surrogate, as he comically reacts to the absurdities of the Netherworld and its logic. As the story goes on, however, he's slowly breaking, much to his own horror.
  • Pyromaniac: Kelly. She practically lives to burn shit. Greet someone? Burn them. Thank someone? Burn them. Fire is her solution to everything.
  • RPG Mechanics 'Verse: How the Netherworld works. Issei promptly refuses to acknowledge any of this for the sake of his own sanity.
  • Serious Business: Agnes takes Prinny training very seriously. When she sees the High Prinnies acting un-Prinny-like, she gets agitated and threatens to send them back to Valvatorez for rehabilitation.
  • Super Power Lottery: What members of Issei's party consider Boosted Gear to be. Able to increase the user's LV in the middle of a fight, in exchange for a little health? A total freaking boon. Increase someone's stats and LV by transferring the power to them? Hax!
Asagi: The Holy Grail of all Main Character's special abilities...
  • Training from Hell: Quite literally in fact, since Issei is in the Netherworld. Courtesy of Champloo when he agrees to take Issei on as an apprentice.
  • Tsundere: Gig, whenever it comes to Revya. Guy just can't say no.
  • The Worf Effect: Gig is regarded by Revya as being extraordinarily powerful, but when the party encounters him, he's only in the double digits. This is due to him traversing different Netherworlds, which has caused his LV to decrease. Doesn't make him any less difficult to fight.
